I was out for a motorcycle ride and decided to find a quiet local spot for lunch. Gene's Restaurant was where I chose. When I walked in, I immediately felt like I was in a local, southern restaurant. None of the feeling of a chain restaurant - this place had lots of local pictures, news articles, and decorations. The long tables encouraged a sense of community, almost like going to a church potluck. The server was pleasant, there were lots of options on the menu, and I was treated respectfully. It was nice to sit there and watch people interacting and going on with their lives. Gene's definitely feels like one of those "local color" places that seems increasingly hard to find. I think I'll make it a regular stop.

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a little thing and I have enjoyed it every time I have been there! The owners are very friendly, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable! When you walk into the restaurant there is memories of Chester throughout the whole place! My grandpa loved this place as well and the pork-chops are to die for! You feel like your a big family when entering this restaurant! Go check em out, lots of options on the bar!

Visited for first and last time today. Ordered off the weekend menu and it was well over 30 minutes before the food arrived. My sandwich was supposed to come with chips, but did not arrive until after I was finished. (Someone had to run to the store to get more chips.) My server was very nice and kept our drinks filled. The reason for 2 stars is because I could see into the kitchen from my booth.

Loved everything about it except my food didn't have any salt. Once I added the salt, my food was straight. Great atmosphere and very friendly service.

The food and service were great. I got the meatloaf Friday special with corn, pinto beans, and scalloped potatoes. For desert I got a piece of cake with chocolate icing. Everything tasted delicious.

Very busy but took nearly half hour to get order placed. Another half hour before food served and others who came in after us got their food first so we left. Normally, service is better.
