So it's now called the Cartologist... As a long time attendee it was nice to see that some money had been invested into the premises and that the refurbishment had attracted people back into the pub.
The pub had a strong customer base creating a nice feel. Most customers were eating but I can't comment on the food as my partner and I only had drinks.
The staff were attentive and polite and the tables cleared quickly of empty dishes and glasses. The place had a little bit of the old buzz about it again.
Time will tell if this is sustainable but if the food is a good standard (it used to be but then went downhill as did the pub) then it could be a go to destination pub.
I wish the landlord the best of luck and hopes he/she can hold onto good chefs
Great cosy and welcoming pub! Park just opposite for free in the evening, or near now closed DLI for free.
Very stylish decoration, giving new life to the vintage furniture, yet not looking shabby. The staff is very helpful. Can make you your favourite drinks, alcoholic or just very good quality tea. Haven't tried food yet, but I shall soon.
Love this place!
Amazing Sunday lunch, fresh food, great service, would definitely recommend
Never been in, all the years I've lived on Durham. What a lovely pub! All the staff were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely go back again. Fab!! X
Great pub in Durham with lots quirky old furniture and decor. We went there for Sunday Lunch and weren't disappointed. The roast beef literally fell apart on your plate. It was served with lots of tasty vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding and lovely gravy. The sticky toffee for dessert was without doubt the best I've ever had. Highly recommended and good value.
Lovely Sunday lunch was had with our family of seven. Quality food and drinks at reasonable prices served with friendly staff. A lovely clean place.
This place is the quintessential charming English Bed and breakfast . The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a short walk into town and even shorter walk to the train station. I really enjoyed my stay here.
AMAZING FOOD!
It's a great pub. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the food is the star here. The lovely chef knows her stuff! Try the buttermilk pork belly with maple and apple sauce and bubble squeak. It's the best main course you'll find in Durham right now!
Good choice of food on the menu. We only paid £47.00 for four meals, all of which were hot and delicious. The beer was good and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The only downside was that it was difficult for my disabled friend to manage the few stairs to and from the ladies.
All new and lovely staff, great food & drinks
