Tucked away in a little nook so small you might sneeze and miss it, milkman does coffee the way it's meant to be: no fuss or frills, delightful and to the point.
It caught my attention due to its misterious window. It is so empty (in a good way) and so sober that you need to get closer to understand what it is really about. When at the door, I just smelled a mix of lavender with coffe and I fell in love.
I have no words to describe how beautidul the inside is, it shows that everything is placed carefully and the details are the sweetest thing ever. I wanted to sit, but of course it was packed! :( :( I ordered a cappucino to-go and that was the second time I fell in love. The coffee is amazing, one of the best ones I ever had honestly!I will come back tomorrow and next time I'll be in Edinburgh, for su-re!
The best place for coffee on the street I live and work on - fact.
I have lived and worked on Cockburn Street for almost a decade and there is nowhere else that comes even close to the Milkman.
The consistency of their coffee is simply magnificent, their staff friendly and familiar, their atmosphere homely.
I'm in there at least twice a day.
The seat by the window with sun shining and a cup of flat white. I enjoyed that 10 mins of coffee at the Milkman. Add a slice of lemon almond cake to it and few laughs. I'd love to come back for more of that.
Great new coffee shop, obviously still in progress, but great additions to both the shop itself and the menu every time I go in for a good coffee.
Quite early one morning I toddled along to Cockburn Street to give a new coffee shop I’d spotted, called The Milkman, a try. Now I’ve fallen foul of ignoring the name of places with my ordering, with the best example of this being when I didn’t have a baked potato at the nearby Baked Potato Shop (I swiftly rectified that), so was concerned that my usual milkless espresso order was going to violate that rule again. Fortunately, they described themselves as an espresso bar, so I was suitably reassured.
Lovely addition to Edinburgh coffee/cake scene (you can never have too many).
Small but perfectly formed, there are a couple of "shelves" to sit at, a rather nice tartan bench in the window and nice little decorative touches.
A good selection of cakes (though we were told there is normally more but they have been particularly busy in the mornings) which I worried looked a little dry but the ginger cake I had was tasty and nicely spiced and had a delicious orange icing.
Coffee was good too, and all reasonably priced. Think it's meant to good for breakfast things too.
Will be back!
I will dream of the cinnamon cookie and the peanut butter cookie!
One thing to be aware of is that this coffeshop is TINY - only one table, one 'reading nook' type of space' (see picture) and the rest is bar stools.
We were lucky enough to grab the table and enjoyed an iced latte which was fantastic, peppermint tea and the above mentioned truly heavenly cookies.
Staff was very friendly despite the relentless stream of customers - I hope to go again on my next visit to Edinburgh.
Great little coffee shop. The coffee was excellent and the pastries were pretty good as well. Very small and cosy atmosphere. I went here twice during my 4 day trip to Edinburgh, it's that good 👍😊
Absolutely gorgeous and richly atmospheric place. Coffee, tea and all hot drinks are delicious, I heard several other people commenting on how their tea or coffee etc were great when I was there. Very limited seating but if you are solo or in a couple, you may be able to nick a corner! Wonderful range of cakes and pastries, some quite unusual or different from the usual. I can recommend the coffee cake in particular. I also like that you have the option to add a tip when you pay by card.
I was lucky enough to get the seat by the window and the photo is the view I got to enjoy during my stay!
A THOUSAND STARS. I guess universe listened to me and i got to visit Edinburgh and did exactly i want to do.
1. I got the seat i wanted to sit and enjoy the vibe.
2. Their hot chocolate is beyond amazing.
3. Support the local cafes, anytime better than the regular ones.
4. Super small cafe, early hours is helpful to sit and enjoy the vibe.
5. Sharing few pictures, like them if you find helpful.
Gets crowded within minutes so recommend getting here before it opens if you want to eat inside. The cafe it quite small and it’s probably going to be very hard to find a spot if you’re a group of more than 2.
The interior is quite lovely and the window seating is just a great way to kill an hour. The baked goods here are decent - the plain croissant I ordered was quite cold but other than that, it’s nice and buttery.
The mocha is superb.
Great place for a morning latte. Was up early and needed a place for a coffee. This seemed to be the only place open at 8am, there was a queue both times i went but never theless the best latte ive had.
I tried the cinnabun which was nice too, bit much for 1 person.
£3.60 for a latte and 3.75 for the cinnabun, sensible price
I think the taste of coffee is the best in Edinburgh. I really recommend flat white. When I visited, there were limited kinds of desserts, but by the time I finished drinking coffee, there were many kinds of desserts. If you fill in more types of desserts in advance when opening, it would be good to have more opportunities to choose.
One of the famous cafes in Edinburgh, the cafe is small, but the service is fast and the coffee is very tasty. The order (flat white / ice latte / raspberry with coconut) I highly recommend it❤️
I had hot chocolate on a Saturday morning and I loved every part of it. It’s a cosy place, the staff members are great, clean and the drink is amazing. Would definitely come back.
Note: the place is quite small, therefore can be crowded. No gluten free options though.
Many cafés in the world, but make The Milkman a place on your to visit before you die list! Its not a huge cafe but a rather small and cosy spot amongst the busy street at Edinburg. There are two on the same street, we visited the one on the corner. Unfortunately the day we visited their dishwasher was broken so we had the coffess in a takeaway cup (which isn’t something I generally Prefer) but nonetheless it was awesome! Their hot chocolate and cappuccino were both amazing and I wish to visit there again on some rainyday enjoying the rain and sipping a hot cup of Coffee😭
