Classic boozer, epic pint of Guinness and they also have a million whiskies which is impressive… real nice Bloody Mary’s and pub food too, highlights include bangers and mash that has the best onion gravy and comes in a boat looks like cartoon food 🤞🙏 lots of white people but the vibe did not feel unwelcome 👍

The staff is very busy and almost friendly, but reacts quickly annoyed. Don't try to order if the bartender doesn't ask you to! Otherwise you will be informed about how many customers he is currently serving. 😉 Unfortunately, I threw a glass on the floor. (With my elbow, an empty glass, not my own, set on a narrow ledge) My offer to sweep up the rubble myself was rudely refused, and the lady took a rude turn on my apology. I was a little gleeful when, shortly after, she smashed a glass herself behind the bar. Now to the positive: It is a very nice bar with an extremely great choice of Whisky and Whiskey. Even the choice of different beers has to be mentioned. And if it is your turn to order, you will be served quickly and friendly. All in all a very good location to spend your evening. And, staff: Try to be more relaxed even with foreigners who are not familiar with scottish bar rules. That would make The Abbey perfect. 👍🏻

Always come in here for the Guiness as its one of the best i have had. Tried the food and its absolutely beautiful. We popped in on a Saturday just after 5pm, packed out as it was the festival. The guys behind the bar were all on the ball, served extremely fast. We had fish and chips and scampi and chips. Came out hot and was delicious. Only criticism I have, was lack of condiments on table, but to be fair it was extremely busy. The waiting staff were all helpful and friendly.

I've tried this place several times for different occasions and now I think I have sufficient evidence of the quality of this place. Over a period of two months, I must admit The Abbey never let me down once. If you go early in the morning, for breakfast or brunch, I'd recommend their traditional Scottish breakfast: it is superb. If you have the chance to have lunch or dinner at this place, you will surely find great quality ingredients and a professional staff. I liked the atmosphere of the pub. Perhaps the most popular aspect of this place is that it features the possibility largest whisky selection in the city: they propose "flights" of three different types of whisky. This funny tasting is definitely worth a try, even if you're not an expert or lover! If you watch football games this is the place for your match evening with beers and mates. Although they do not have an automated booking system on their website (which may be easier for tourists), we did not have much difficulty in understanding the waitress when reserving tables by telephone. In the end, if you're looking for a great pub away from the sometimes chaotic royal mile, The Abbey is probably the best choice I could recommend. Cheers

Fantastic whiskey tasting options. Great food. Ate the flatiron steak and the abbey burger. Steak plate was a smaller quantity than expected. The burger was scrumptious! Will definitely visit again.

This is the best place to visit if you want to get a taste of Scottish food. The staff at the restaurant was extremely nice. There was a lady who was extremely attentive and caring. She made sure I received a dessert even though the kitchen staff had left for the night. The food portions are good and are quite affordable. I would love to visit this place when I'm back again in Edinburgh.

Excellent service (especially by waitress with pink hair who was lovely and attentive) and good Scottish Fry. Veggie Haggis was sold out but I was offered avocado instead which was great! Good price, £6.95.

Nice pub for a dinner and/or a drink (they have an impressive list of whiskies). Be careful the kitchen closes at 9pm sharp, we could not order dessert at 9:05pm!

The service at this place was amazing! Scottish people are the most friendly, but Karen was incredible!!! She was the best waiter 😊 I was sad that I was not able to taste the livers, but everything we had was amazing!!! The food was great! We had pie, haggis, beef, nachos! And sticky toffee pudim! There is a great variety of scotch whisky but also Irish whiskey and from other places! And a variety of beers!
