The staff here really are on another level, I cannot fault this restaurant at all. The food was delicious and fairly priced, the vegetarian haggis especially deserves a mention. Huge selection of food for all diets and requirements, as well as amazing dessert cocktails and alcoholic drinks. The atmosphere is alive yet relaxing.
Great for brunch! Always has been up there with one of the best brunch spots at that side of town...and a lot more relaxed now as opposed to before the refurbishment. Great spot for a cheeky cocktail or dinner if around the area too!
My weekend just isn't fulfilled without brunch. This was my second visit to Montpeliers but my first visit for brunch.
On my previous dining experience I had the nachos, which were very tasty but a huge portion! This time I opted for the Eggs Benedict with salmon. They were extremely tasty and the eggs were cooked perfectly; the portion size was the right amount. I accompanied my eggs with an orange juice, which was lovely and refreshing, but I prefer fresh orange juice with pulp in it.
Both times, the people I have been with have really enjoyed their meals and the atmosphere is always enjoyable. It is a good set up for any time of day.
The only issue is that because it is so busy you may have to wait for a table - so go a bit early than you plan to eat.
My typical Saturday go to nice atmosphere and perfect for a cheeky g&t. Great value 2 for £10 menu makes for a good refuel between bruntsfield wanders
I always enjoy coming back to this restaurant. I used to live just across the street and really enjoyed having this amazing place in my neighborhood. It's great for lunch, dinner or just a drink. I shared fish and chips and mac and cheese with Barbitchka during my most recent visit and I loved both of the dishes. The outside seating is great especially during summer. Since this place is usually packed it's good to book a table in advance. The staff is always friendly and very efficient. I'll be back!
A decent breakfast cafe on your doorstep is essential for good weekend living, and where better to brunch than Montys in Bruntsfield. First thing – make sure you book, Montpeliers is always packed at the weekend, but they are great at squeezing you in if they can. Recently refurbished, Montpeliers is now a very lovely, bright space with a French cafe feel – lots of light wood, huge windows, wrought iron features and exposed lightbulbs. The crockery is cute and cool at the same time, and the breakfast menu is delicious.
Situated up in Bruntsfield it’s been open since 1992 and has recently undergone a make-over. We were pleased to see that they've still kept their 2 courses for £10 and 2 mains for £10 offers along with the extensive cocktail menu and excellent beer selection. The inside of Montpeliers is spacious, romantic and has a French country vibe to it. When we arrived at 6pm the place was a hive of activity.
As you can see from the pictures the food was small tapa style portions to go with each beer. We were glad it wasn't full sized portions otherwise we would never had made it to the end. Mr Edinburger thoroughly enjoyed the beef slider with blue cheese glaze and I loved the chilli prawns, thankfully they weren’t as spicy as we were expecting. Our favourite beers from the night was an easy one. We both loved the Shandon Stout and it’s now on our to buy list, if we can find it as it’s not the easiest to source. All the food served was delicious and tasted very fresh. It gave a great insight into the food on offer at Montpeliers and it’s on our return list.
We're glad they've kept the same great food since the refurb and we'll be back to try out their cocktail menu very very soon. If you're in the area, we'd definitely recommend stopping in although maybe book a table if it's early evening or for brunch as it can get busy pretty quickly.
Montpeliers has been around for 20 years, for any restaurant to last that long they must be doing something right. You could argue that the secret of success may well be the location, situated as it is in a busy little corner of Edinburgh. However this stretch of Morningside Road and Bruntsfield Place has an abundance of decent eateries (the excellent Papilio for one) so flourishing in this competitive market is even more impressive. I would suggest that it is a combination of good food, great service and excellent value for money that brings in (and back) the punters.
We’ve been writing reviews on Zomato for a while now so when they invited us along to a #zomatomeetup we thought it would be a pretty good way to spend our Thursday evening. The venue of choice was Montpeliers Bar. Situated up in Bruntsfield it’s been open since 1992 and has recently undergone a make-over. We were pleased to see that they’ve still kept their 2 courses for £10 and 2 mains for £10 offers along with the extensive cocktail menu and excellent beer selection. The inside of Montpeliers is spacious, romantic and has a French country vibe to it. When we arrived at 6pm the place was a hive of activity.
Montpeliers is, in a word, lovely. Lovely interiors, lovely coffee, lovely food… just lovely lovely lovely. It doesn’t surprise me that it is such an institution and that so many people love it. With a solid food and drink offering and a nice cosy setting, there are few nicer places to enjoy a traditional breakfast in Bruntsfield.
We had breakfast and it was suuper good — the waitress that attended us was very friendly and understanding. The coffee was really good, not too strong but enough to keep me awake in the morning 🤣. Although we ordered something that wasn’t in the menu, they didn’t say anything and in our opinion, executed the idea perfectly. The interior design was so cozy, definitely will be coming back later!
A really lovely venue to go to eat. The atmosphere is lovely and friendly with the staff making you feel at home. The selection of food is as shown on the website, with not as much selection for vegetarians as you would like. With a small selection of specials available. Drinks are as you would normally find in a restaurant.
We enjoyed breakfast so much that we returned for dinner, which was also delightful. Choices were good, service was classy, and the decor was pretty and relaxing. Good selection of wines and craft beers. TIP: Book your table in advance, even for breakfast.
Nice bar with great selection of cocktails! Music volume could be a bit lower but after a few drinks you don't mind! Service was fast! Didn't try food, maybe next time! Recommend 😊
Beautiful little restaurant with a friendly team. The coffees were good but the food was a bit of a let down. We had the skillet which was served in a bowl and the flavours/combination just didn't work in my opinion, sorry. Would definitely be back to try something different next time.
Friendly staff, squeezed using for a dinner table on a busy night, then moved unto a better spot when they got a cancellation!
Food and drink were excellent, and they had a fun pub quiz the night we were there, so we had a great evening.
Well worth a visit if staying nearby.
My partner had just been to a gruelling medical appointment and was a bit shaky. We were greater warmly by the barman and the waitress led us to a quiet table with a nice garden view where we had a wonderful meal. I collected my car before I got booked and picked my partner up from the front door. My fish was fresh and delicious. We both felt a lot better afterwards.
Always a great atmosphere here , managed to get a table for drinks which is rare as it’s very popular.
A couple of glasses of Malbec and a hot chocolate rounded of our evening walk.
Will be back for food soon !
My friends omelette came out not quite as hot as it should have been but this was rectified immediately she mentioned it and the 2nd one was thoroughly enjoyed by her. My pancakes were great and the service was lovely.
Great street presence is matched with a beautiful interior that immerses you into a garden feel. Flat white Coffees were decently tasty. Friendly service as we were greeted and served promptly.
