Pre-booked a lunch table for my Dad's 89th Birthday today. What wonderful service and food... they really made us feel so welcome, although we had not been there before! They made a fabulous dessert plate for Dad with Happy Birthday written on it... he was so chuffed.
Thankyou all so much for making it such a special day for him... and for us all. X

Got there at 2pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon as me and wifey decided to go out for a ride on the Harley, we managed to grab a table outside, the shandy was beautifully cold and the food exceptional, I know this pub is extremely popular for bikers so I was surprised that we managed to get sat down, absolutely top notch food and very reasonable, lovely surroundings with lots to of nice bikes and the odd classic car as well, well worth the trip out
What a fantastic pub! We were staying in the area and thought we’d check this place out. Thank god we did. Brilliant old country pub atmosphere, fantastic staff, great drink choice and an actual fireplace. What more could you ask for? It was just a great place to spend an evening with a few drinks and friends, can’t recommend it enough. A gem in amongst so many pretentious pubs that have been stripped of character. Go now!!
Beautiful location & building (16th century) The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
We didn't book a table and walked in on the off chance... So glad we did. Can't fault anything. Food wise I highly recommend the pork belly with colcannon and creamed leeks, also the hand made steak burger. The menu reads really well and can't wait to return and try some more.
Lovely, waterside location so had my meal outside on this weekday summer evening.
The salmon served was delicious and the staff were welcoming, polite and courteous.
Sadly, as is often the case nowadays, the end of my meal was marred by two smokers sitting nearby. (One was a member of staff). Non-smokers like to eat and drink al-fresco as much as smokers and whilst it's good that smokers go out of the building it rather looks as if non-smokers will be confined to eating and drinking indoors.
A lovely place to visit for lunch (inside). Very picturesque village though not much in it except the 100 or so big lorries huge tractors and every SUV in Essex going over the single track bridge next to the pub it was relentless which made it difficult to have a conversation. The staff were superb though 10 out of 10 for customer service.
One of the few pubs open on a Monday in the area. Food was fine.....typical pub menu. Nice to eat outside in the lively sunshine. The village is beautiful, and very popular.
Lovely pub. But Dunwich Dynamo tip, the steepest little ramp is right after, and if you’ve had a full meal and a pint of beer on the ride here, brace yourself! (It’s hardly a massive hill, more like a mound but full of hearty food - you’re going to really feel it)
Good honest pub food in the heart of village opposite the green. Good menu, friendly service and tasty hearty courses
I only ever stop here for a pint on a Sunday, but the service and staff have always been great, and I keep meaning to take the family for food and is looks absolutely lovely! Will review then
Finchingfield is a Beautiful village, with duck pond, pubs, and tea room's serving sandwiches and cakes.
If you ride or are just interested in 🏍 it's definitely worth a drive/ride.
Packed with bikes and friendly bikers at the weekend .....
Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere.
Service was perfect. Could not find fault with anything...
