We went to have supper at the little fish market and tried the tasting menu, which was £69pp. The foods were absolutely wonderful. The quality of the fishes is difficult to find anywhere else. Very very impressed.
However, the waiting time was so long. We were well prepared that tasting menu would take long but it was much longer than we thought it would be. 2 hours 40 minutes for 5 courses! We have tried tasting menu in the gingerman and it was 1.5 hours there, which was much more reasonable. Also, wine here is pretty pricey as well. What was more disappointing was for 2 people it costs £200 plus service and we were still pretty hungry after the meal as there was no potato nor much carb during the meal.
Lovely intimate restaurant. Unpretentious surroundings and service. Fish was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I am a big fan of seafood so not easy to please! They brought me a little chocolate treat with a candle for my birthday which was a nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you
This hidden gem must go on your list of places to visit before you die. From the moment you arrive you realize this is not just dinner, it is an experience.
We had the expertly planned, prepared and cooked tasting menu with the considered wine pairing which left you free to sit back and enjoy the whole occasion.
Each dish was sublime and made you taste the food rather than just eat it. Often, I felt like a child and just left the food on my tongue to imbue and embed.
Having had the privilege of eating in many great restaurants, this is up there with the best.
Thank you to the very hands-on Duncan and his friendly, knowledgeable and attentive team for making my rather unwanted launch into another decade a much more pleasant and unforgettable experience.
We do travel for a great meal but didn’t know that this restaurant was so near, we will be back.
Had been wanting to go to Little Fish Market for ages.
I can't fault the food. Duncan Ray is indisputably a great chef however I was disappointed with the decor of the restaurant. We were seated in the window which had condensation causing all the sills and walls to be black, damp & mouldy, not nice to sit next too. It all looked tired and a bit grotty. I did point this out to the waitress who said they'd had terrible trouble with mould. This isn't what you want to hear when paying for an expensive meal. I always think if the standard of the decor isn't good then what is the standard of the kitchen. I'm sure the kitchen is fine but its the little things that a customer remembers. It made the experience a little disappointing after having high hopes.
Duncan came upstairs and must have known we were new customers but chose to only speak to guests it seemed he already knew. So again not made to feel special.
I so wanted to rave about this restaurant but unfortunately it left me a little disappointed.
Second visit to this fish restaurant. The food is Michelin star quality - cooked with passion and dedication by the lovely chef. Servers had changed since our last visit but quality remained top drawer with knowledgeable and genuine warmth. Food is second to none with a close call for our favorite dish. Only slight niggle is that the surroundings could do with some attention, a condenser in the window, cushions for the chairs to make it more comfortable - that said highly recommend this small restaurant and will travel down from London again to visit.
Hard to get a table, a rightly so. Cracking food. Service was a tiny tiny bit chaotic but that could have been more to do with the number of guests we had. Highly recommended..
We had a belated Valentines meal here and it was great. The restaurant is cosy, the staff friendly and the food is delicious. Every single course of the set menu was tasty, innovative and unique, without being poncey. It’s not cheap, but it is worth it. Will definitely go back to celebrate a special occasion.
Thoroughly enjoyed The Little Fish Market, we dine out regularly in Brighton and Hove and this is up there with our favourite 5
This restaurant is all about the finest ingredients cooked to the highest standard. Duncan is passionate about cooking and his 5 course taster menu is a perfect example of high end cooking at its best... faultless. A very smooth operation from the time we walked in to when we left. Knowledgeable staff without being too intrusive.
If I had to find fault I would say the seats were a bit hard and the place could do with a lick of paint but don't let that put you off this gem of a restaurant.
Small restaurant, fixed menu but every course a delight and came with explanation of what you are about to eat. A total must for fish lovers and friendly and entertaining service
Loved this little casual restaurant with food that delivers at each of the 5 courses.
The chef uses the freshest of ingredients and adds his own skilful touches to deliver a great fish experience.
Its not cheap at £69 but with the extra little touches we spent a pleasurable 3 and half hours.
The service was exceptional too by the way - two such friendly and efficient people.
It's not emperors new clothes either as one reviewer told us in his/her tome below as the majority of reviews will testify.Maybe we're all wrong!
Would recommend for a special occasion.
I cannot fault the whole evening whatsoever.
The food was exemplary and very tasty, the sea trout being the stand out dish for me.
Service was attentive, professional, friendly and not intrusive.
The atmosphere was pleasant, not noisy and plenty of space between tables.
A huge thank you to the Chef who took time to chat to us and ask for feedback .
Congratulations on a winning combination. Will see you very soon
Been trying to eat here for a long time and finally managed it....and boy it was worth the wait...a five course set menu for all plus some delightful extra nibbles made for a excellent dinner...we opted for the wine accompaniment which were spot on...and then the front of house (some old familiar faces!) were warm and friendly.hope to come back soon.
We first ate here two years ago and loved it and I’m pleased to report our second visit was just as good. The venue is cozy and relaxing, the staff friendly, warm and knowledgable and the food is clever, well presented and delicious. We won’t leave it so long until our next visit!!
A very special meal for my man’s special birthday, from the welcome to the candle at the endthis was a memorable occasion. Thank you Duncan for sharing your knowledge and passion about food and to every one who made this such an amazing experience.
Excellent. Imaginative food beautifully presented. Knowledgable and welcoming staff. Approachable chef who is happy to discuss his dishes.
A wonderful evening with fab food and excellent service. The menu was different to that shown on the website, but we knew it was subject to change, but we were not disappointed! The 5 courses were perfectly balanced and beautifully presented, with the added surprise of amuse bouche to start with. Couldn’t fault the evening and as we wished it to be....memorable. Wholeheartedly recommended!
Well we finally got a reservation and it didn’t disappoint. The best restaurant in Brighton & Hove, every single dish beautifully cooked, favourites tonight were the smoked trout, superb cod and the signature chocolate dish. A very professional and welcoming service team, next reservation already made 😀 just 1 tiny suggestion (Although forgiven by the excellent food quality), wine list selection and pricing needs review.
The staff were warm and welcoming, the food was truely memorable. Highly recommended - one of the best meals this year!!
My wife and me went to the Little fish market for a long overdue date night. I had been wanting to eat here for a while after reading the great reviews but this small restaurant was always booked well in advance. Having found a babysitter for 3rd November I called the LFM and despite being full I asked if I could be put on a waiting list, 1 week later they called and we were in! Only question now was would it meet the very high expectations I had for this restaurant.. and that it certainly did and more.
Every course, every additional morsel from the kitchen, the bread, the drinks, the attentive service and setting were really on the money.
Particular highlights, a stunning smoked trout served in 3 stages and the most delicate hallibut with seaweed potatoes.
This restaurant is quite unique in brighton and I look forward to returning to see what the menu has to offer.
