Coming from America the sound of a "Carvery" was interesting. Back home there are no places left that cut beef in front of you. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at home right away. This is a locals restaurant and pub. Vegetables are local sourced and my wife really liked that they were not over cooked. Having traveled recently in several large cities, the 12 pound, 3 course meal was an absolute bargain. The taste of the food was also a very refreshing change compared to normal bland restaurant food. It is not a fancy place but neither am I. The Carvery offered Turkey, Roast beef, and two kinds of Pork. The plate was large and we were given lots of meat. The vegetables were self serve. The special offers a single to thru line. I could not eat my full plate so I am going to say the portion is normal to large. Deserts we're good according to two in our party. Like I said I was stuffed from the main course. The Fox Inn is a must stop in if anywhere near the area!
First time I've been here, and they had 3 courses for £10. The food was nice enough, the starters would nice.. Good amount of flavour. The carvery had a wide selection of vegetables, and the meat was wonderful. The roast potatoes had a weird herb crust on it, which wasn't to my taste, and the potato gratin wasn't to our taste at all. You aren't going to win it all! The dessert was lovely, the sticky toffee pudding was just amazing.. so much flavour! The apple crumble was okay, custard was a bit watery. The chefs were so friendly and polite. The servers didn't look like they were that thrilled to be there, and the service could be very slow.. considering how quiet it was.
Would I go here again? Probably yes. It was cheap, and the food was nice enough!
Nice pub, although not very warm on our visit (mid October). Portion size from the menu was on the small size although the carvery was generous. Lovely puddings. Service was good.
