Mazi is a wonderful Greek restaurant around Notting Hill which is perfect for a refreshing meal on those sporadic days of sunshine we may have in London (or even when there isn’t any sunshine).  If the weather allows, there is a lovely outdoor area where you can enjoy eating al fresco. If not, the interior of Mazi is equally lovely with its whitewashed walls that make you feel like you are in Greece!

London is full of Greek cuisine, but Mazi has been my favourite for quite some time. Inspired by the foods of old Greece, this charming restaurant brings together classic dishes handed down for generations and a contemporary flair for presentation and style.

The whole concept of Mazi revolves around the fact that their dishes are meant to be shared by every guest at the table, which was perfect for my friend and I. When we arrived, we were greeted by our friendly server, who was more than happy to explain the menu.

We started with perfectly grilled aubergine, with a touch of soy and thyme honey, and an authentic tzatziki with only a pinch of garlic, which were uniquely presented in rustic glass jars. We also shared a hot plate of feta tempura, served with lemon marmalade and caper meringue. I loved the mix of the creamy feta with the crunchy batter, and the tanginess of the lemon and sweetness of the capers were spot on. For the one of the mains, we had grilled octopus, which was delicious and perfectly charred, and the herbed potato salad and olive tapenade were the perfect accompaniments.

My absolute favorite part was the Greek desserts, which we shared, but I was more than content to eat them all myself. The Galaktoboureko was delicious, the custard creamy and the dough light and flaky, with a hint of sweet syrup. We also enjoyed frozen Greek yogurt, topped with candied quince and a cinnamon oat crunch. Yum!

Mazi is the best modern representation of the Greek cuisine in London, and the service and staff were excellent and accommodating. I particularly loved the way the food was presented, which really tied the rustic vibe of the restaurant’s décor into the food. I highly recommend Mazi for anyone looking to escape to Greece through their taste buds!

Very comfortable and homely restaurant serving delicious modern Greek food. The menu is very creative and all dishes we tried were excellent. It's a bit pricey for relatively small portions - but you do taste that the food is really high quality. Atmosphere is very warm and lively, feels very comfortable there but it can get a little bit loud at times as tables are very close to each other. Service was ok. Would definitely recommend this place for someone who would like to try Greek food that is more than what you traditionally get!

It was an intimate affair with the six of us sat outside in the cute little garden, sharing plates upon plates of delicious Greek food and Tzatziki Martinis.  I'm a huge fan of Greek food, especially since my trip to Kefalonia on the Greek Islands last year, so I was very much looking forward to sampling the cooking of world-renown Chef George Ve

I’ve been looking forward to the opening of Mazi, not least because I was curious about the concept of Modern Greek Food.  Now, that is in no way meant to be insulting, but from my own visits to Greece I know is as a country where the ingredients, particularly vegetables and fish, are outstanding and where the cuisine is simple, traditional and incredibly well flavoured.  So why try to ‘cheffy’ it up? Well of course, there is no reason why not.  As long as it’s about taking traditional recipes and genuinely working on how to improve them with modern cooking techniques and adapt them for a modern palate.  And that is just what Mazi has achieved. The restaurant itself is charming.  Very fresh, blue and white décor, a pretty terrace with fig tree, vines and olive tree and shelves of greek produce.  And, the food was superb.   We started by sampling the ‘Cold Jars’.  Pretty preserving jars of traditional with a twist and rather less than traditional meze

As an early birthday day treat on Friday, my friend Ismay took me to Mazi, a Greek restaurant in Notting Hill. She did warn me that it was seriously delicious; but I was still blown away! This place is a gem. Everything on the menu is designed to be shared amongst the table- my favourite way to dine out! You can find it just around the corner from Notting Hill Gate station. I prefer a low key birthday nowadays- the curse of a December birthday is always having to battle the chaos of Christmas! So, just the three of us sat in a cosy candlelit corner of the restaurant, downing our welcome shots of passionfruit grappa before picking our dishes.

The food comes as and when it’s ready, leaving everyone to tuck straight into it; our first dish was grilled aubergine with soy and thyme honey in a jar. There was a little metal pail of bread on the table that I tore chunks from to scoop the tasty aubergine into my mouth…and to also mop my plate.

Next to arrive was also another Jar dish- oak smoked mackerel with a very lemony quinoa. When it arrived, the waiter flipped the top off and a stream of smoke filtered through the air. Mixed into the quinoa were some cranberries (I think). The contrast of the sweetness from the berries with the zingy tang from the lemon was delicious.

We skipped the salads and went straight to the hot food to share. There were the souvlaki with pork wrapped in rice rolls and an amazing calamari dish with rocket pesto riceless risotto. Yes, those little pieces of ‘rice’ are in fact tiny pieces of delicate chopped up calamari. It came with a side of salsa and I loved every bit of it.

We finished off our meal with the shredded Rabbit Stifado with pearl onion cream and the Black Truffle Chicken. The rabbit was juicy, tender and sweet thanks to the sauce it was served with. If you are a fan of pulled pork, you will love this too! The Black Truffle Chicken was also tender and juicy, and the mushrooms served on the side were buttery and rich. I couldn’t pick which dish I preferred- but if you try this place you must get them both!

Our meal was topped off with these lovely doughnut bites drizzled in warm honey and lavender. My friend had asked the restaurant to swap the side to chocolate sorbet since me and lactose aren’t exactly the best of friends, which the obliged very kindly. They even stuck a candle in it for me!

It's a small restaurant, and we had to book in advance- it is so worth it- and everyone was just so nice! You can find Mazi on Hillgate Street, literally a stone’s throw away from Notting Hill station. Our meal for three including cocktails and wine came to £145, and it was one the best meals I've had in a long time.

London has been taken over with cuisines from all over the world and it’s a fantastic place to be for foodies and restauranteurs at the moment. Before MAZI, I hadn’t really tried Greek food and to be honest I didn’t find a place enticing enough to make me try it. MAZI is a breath of fresh air. They’ve been gaining popularity quietly tucked away on Hillgate Street in Notting Hill Gate. The decor is modern, fresh, crisp and there is a lot of natural light! I love the personal touches of quirky frames hanging on the walls. The restaurant exudes a very comfortable and homey feel. They also have a lovely garden at the back to enjoy the weather (if it’s ever nice!)

Let’s start talking about the food then! They start you off with a complimentary bread selection. CARBS!! :P The buckets comes with a selection of breads and the quality is superb. Although I’d suggest going easy on the bread if you want to order a lot of food. Their jars are one of the best things on the menu. They go really well with the bread especially the Spicy Tiropita and Filo Pastry Jar (my absolute favourite!) and the Fish Roe Mousse Tarama (lovely texture and a slight tangy taste). I could fill myself up with the jars and some bread- yum!

We ordered the wild cod but as pretty as it looked and the dish was constructed well- it didn’t really click with me. I’d prefer the Black Truffle Chicken Hunkar Begendi. If you love mushrooms, then this dish is for you.

From beginning to end a fantastic culinary and social experience.
Hidden away 2 minutes walk from Notting Hill Tube, do yourself a favour and try this corner of Greece in London! My personal favourite is the Galaktoboureko desert: Imagine a cross between baklava, custard tart and yummy home made ice-cream and you get the picture.
Give it a go. You won't regret it. Be sure to book in advance though...

Tucked away on a small street off the main road, it's cosy and characterful without being cluttered, which I liked. I was too busy chatting away to snap a photo of the interior, but you can see some on their site.

First, we were presented with shots of something that we suspected was alcoholic but was only a tiny bit so - a pineapple/passionfruit juice concoction with something akin to grappa, if my memory serves me correctly.

As for the food, it's a menu of smaller dishes that you share with the table, so we chose 3 of their jars - taramasalata, squid ink with fried calamari and aubergine cooked in some kind of delicious way I can't quite remember, alongside some delicious bread and olives -

- and also chose two of their "main" dishes, cold souvlaki wrapped in rice paper and octopus risotto, both of which were very good.

We didn't try any of their dessert (opting to finish the evening in a nearby pub with some more vino, cheekily), but it was a lovely meal. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again, and it's somewhere that you would benefit from going with a larger group so you could try lots of different things.

This place is great. Ideal for groups of 3 or 4 as sharing based plates. The jars (appetizers) are phenomenal. We always order all of them and then their greek salad (standout dish) with one or two mains. No need to even have mains but the feta tempura is worth a try. Al fresco patio is great in summer. Always busy so book ahead but usually not a problem for walkins - even if you need to wait 30 mins you can have a drink at the pub next door.

We went here for a friends birthday and it was SO nice! We went on a Monday night and they were pumping (sign of a good restaurant!). We started with some jars of their delicious dips, and shared a few plates for mains. A highlight was the Feta Tempura! We also shared a couple of desserts. Everything was flavorful and the staff were friendly too. Would definitely recommend this place for some upmarket Greek food that packs a lot of flavour!

Great modern take on greek cuisine absolutely loved Mazi. firstly, their greek wine selection is great. I am a french wine kinda guy, but was able to find a great bottle that works well with the meal and my taste pallet. The restaurant is small with a great vibe. staff were super sweet, welcoming and kind. The food was great. at least most of it. I would skip all dips as they were very bland and pointless and focus on the starters and mains. simply each and every one was accurate and delicious. the grilled octopus was great. the ossobuco was probably my favorite. the fried feta with honey and meringue was also interesting and great. honestly, a great restaurant with great take on greek food. desserts were light and went well with the meal we’ve had.

Look green food is refreshing and awesome when it’s in it’s made in it’s simplest form. But what Mazi do is make that even better. How? No idea but I can taste it. And you definitely should check them out. If you look at my attached pictures and it doesn’t make you want to eat there you, you don’t like good food.

Beautiful place, loved the concept of the different categories of dishes and having them in this particular sequence. A lot of variety of dishes while keeping true to the authentic Greek cuisine. Lovely Greek staff too. I would definitely visit again and would love to try every single dish.

Can’t say enough about the food and the service here. Fortunately, they made room for two of us on a Monday night. Each course was thoroughly enjoyable and left you anticipating the next. Don’t skip one!
