I was here in February, during my visit to London. The place is really good and serves quality vegetarian Indian food which is rare to find in London. The ambience is simplistic and nothing fancy. However I must say they are very polite, the staff and chefs are approachable and all in all make a good place to visit. A meal(veg) costs around 8-10 pounds and non veg costs more, around 15-20 pounds depending on your appetite. Just be aware that they follow very strict timings and I missed out once, because I was returning From University of Oxford, missed out on a train to King's cross. The place was closed when I arrived at 9:35 in the evening. To rate it I would say: Ambience 3/5, Menu and options: 5/5 Cleanliness and hygiene 4/5, Food quality and taste 4/5. Staff Courtesy 4.5/5. Location 5/5. Overall 5/5.

We were here on a weekend and hence could savour the buffet only. Authentic Indian food, with a light touch of south Indian. The yellow dal was especially good. In the spectrum of watery to day-old refrigerated dal, this one was close to perfection. It's a tad expensive maybe but don't think twice about coming if you are craving proper Indian food.

Now this one may come as a surprise to write about, but it’s a real hidden gem in the city and I’m all about finding the best tasting food no matter where I end up. So how did I end up in the Indian YMCA? Well, I was intrigued with a colleague’s lunch and he told me the how his dad uses to take him to the YMCA’s around London to eat. It’s no wonder this place has been around for over 60 years old.

Setting might not be like a posh restaurant but if you fancy great, simple and homely cooked Indian food at very affordable prices, this is the place worth trying. We went for weekend dinner buffet which costed just £8 pp and one can eat his/her heartful.

YMCA London – If you working in Central London (Zone 1 /2) or moving around where less options are available for “Home Style Indian food” .. This is the Right choice ..
For Food and Stay as well.. Perfect Location and Decent Rates and more
Reached there in Office Lunch hours after a long plan.
Before I go ahead with more details on Food Part , need to mention that this is one of the good option to stay if you are alone and planning to spend more time in central London and not want to spend much in Travel . Short term /Long term Accommodation + Per Day internet and more

Now Ambience: Decent old style Traditional Indian college(Medical/Eng ) mess kind of .. Not much infra and all .. But its nice feeling here .
Menu is having good options as per choice to customize, you have pay in Advance for 1st Round of food, then you can top up as well .
Mango lassi was decent but not as good as Sarvana Bhavan .
Chefs were Pakastani here as well seems
Menu is limited but they have good Extra options for Curd Salad Papad Dal and more.. so you can Customize as per your requirement
One of the must visit for Indian feel , you may find some old friend here during Lunch (

True Value for money…..

Niece had recommended this place for its true value for money experience.

Location is very convenient, Warren Street Tube Station is 5 minute walk.
Stores like Sainsbury, Tesco &
Superdrug are within 2 minute walk…
Lots of Pubs, Restaurants in the vicinity.
Fitzrovia Square is very beautiful area, green heart gardens of the London, Regent Park is just 2 minute walk.

Since this is Hostel, atmosphere is energetic, cheerful. Nice library...

During our stay we got the chance to stay in a double room and a single room, both of which we found comfortable. Rooms are well maintained with a reasonably sized attached bath.

Big attraction is that the room rate includes Indian breakfast and dinner.

Breakfast has no much varieties. They generally serve only one type each day, so we had Dosa, Poori, Upma for the three breakfasts we had there. For the dinners they serve one non veg & 2 veg items & Indian bread is roti which needs improvement. Salads are good. Deserts are also very good.
Since, it is a students’ hostel, the meal times are a tad inconvenient. But the meals are homely and filling.

Staff at the reception are very helpful.

YMCA offers Wi-Fi and taxi services, for a fee. The connectivity in rooms is weak. Recommend the management to enhance it by using boosters.

My overall experience was good.

YMCA is like a boon in an expensive city like London. Located conveniently to enable one to visit all the important sights, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is an ideal accommodation.

Given a chance to visit London again, we will love stay here again.

What a great and super casual place to have a great meal! I have to say it doesn't look at all appealing as soon as you walk in but once you understand that you are in a dining hall and NOT a restaurant then you really feel confortable. And the food!! What amazing flavors and heartiness in the food that they serve, it really was a good experience, I would however recommend going there with a couple of friends so you can create your own atmosphere paired with the great food and have an amazing dinner. The price was 8£ the night that I went and you can help yourself to more if you'd like, they also seem very happy to have you there. So go!

The best and safest place for stay for Indian girls while in london, the place might be pricy but we still opted for it only for safety. The rooms are as good and clean as any other hotels.
There is no restaurant, it is a canteen serving limited and fixed food. But its worth it. Being in London and able to eat vada sambar is heavenly in itself!

Absolutely delicious authentic Indian food at a pocket pleasing price. Would highly recommend if you’re missing Indian food away from home. They had 4 curries, 2 kinds of rice, roti, fruit and tea or coffee all in one thali! Absolutely brilliant 🙌

We went with family and kids on a Sunday afternoon for lunch after a tiring day out. It was a £13 set menu on weekends for lunch. Paid at the reception, kids under 10 go free. Went in for the self-service, the person at the counter served the food with generous portions consisting of lamb curry, 2 different veggies, dhal, rice, big Chapatti and Mango Lassi. Food tasted as home cooked food even kids enjoyed the meals. Be mindful of their serving times before you reach there. Since they close their serving 30mins before closing time.

Absolutely delicious, I ate too much and feel a bit too full. Lamb was fab, soft, thick gravy and just the right spice, pilau rice was full of vegetables and a big plate full, daal was thick, creamy and tasty, 2 poppadoms crispy. Total was £14.40... Next time I'll probably get less. Service was really courteous, tables immaculately clean and jugs on water on every table. It's probably one of the best value for money places in London. Highly recommended

Authentic Indian food. It's not a type of restaurant with charming decorations. The food is most important there and this is what makes this place special.

Restaurant hall inside the YMCA hostel open to non-guests. I work locally and visit the Indian YMCA Restaurant 1-2 times per month. This is very much a canteen experience, fold-away chair tables/self service on trays/no waiters (no tipping required) other than the chaps clearing the tables. During week day lunch they normally have 10-15 food options that you collect from the kitchen window and pay for at the cashier, each option is £4-6 so expect to pay £12-£15. As a ++large man I normally go for rice, 1 chapati, 2 curry dishes and a bhaji portion which cost around £21 total. The food is authentic Asian fare spicy but not excessively. Whilst it is a canteen, there is a awning covered outside area that is far more quiet than the canteen. If you like authentic Indian food, are happy to forgo the restaurant atmosphere and are in the area I would recommend the Indian YMCA Restaurant

The food here is soo amazing, closest to Indian home made food. Fish and Lamb curries are probably the best, soo yummy. You get a decent lunch for under £10.
