The whole evening was hilarious fun. It didn't matter if I remembered the original characters - which I did! - because it doesn't matter: they are great - go see it! It's an excellent night out.
Great food, great staff, lovely pub. Worth a visit.
South of the river, but not so far that you might catch a cold, The White Bear, Kennington is best known to me as a fringe theatre venue. It has a fabulous programme of shows, with tickets usually under £15. And, if you go along to the theatre, you get 10% off the food in the pub downstairs. I’ve never been to the pub, despite the fact that it is about 5 minutes from home for me. So I was delighted to be invited along to review and invited a friend who lives locally along to join me. The menu looked promising – six starters, two sharing boards and a whole selection of classic main courses. However, things did get off to a slightly wobbly start when we found that two of the starters were not available. We ended up sharing the White Bear Board, a tapas type collection of dishes comprising meatball ragu, spicy wings, smoked mackerel, breaded brie, mushroom and tomato relish, vegetable crisps and sourdough with some extra olives.
Favourite new pub! 🌟 Love the food. Crab and Samphire Sandwich 🥪 excellent, now I'll try to post a photo after my Virgin Mary
We found out about The White Bear thanks to the recommendation of our AirBnB hosts, we were looking for a classic London pub full of hot food and cold beer, both expectations were more than met.
The flavor of all the dishes was spectacular, the meat pie is a must try and the best representative of London food. Thank you for the excellent service and delicious food. Greetings from cancun
Absolutely delicious food and atmosphere! Spacious dining rooms and friendly staff made us comfortable during our visit. Loved the place so much.
Best fish finger sandwich around! Our whole table got it and the rating was unanimous.

Good Young's pub on Kennington Park Road about 5 minutes walk from Kennington Underground Station. Three cask beers - and 1 cider - on handpump when I last visited. Lots of outdoor seating at the front and in the patio garden to the rear. Small theatre upstairs.
The pub is absolutely massive (doesn’t look like it from outside) and it has a really cozy feel to it. As a drinking venue and a place to chat with your friends, it is perfect as it has a little speakeasy feel to it and I’d happily give 5 stars. The pub is absolutely full even on a week day (it was Wednesday we went). The service is nice. The food we had (sharing ploughman’s board, scampi, hummus) were not exceptional but they were ok as pub grab - so I’d probably give 3 stars. Some of the dishes felt like they were trying to make them too “fancy” that they missed the point - like hummus which were not really hummusy, ploughman’s pickle/cheddar/pickled which lacked pickles/sharp edge needed to cut through the richness of pork pies/sausage/meat dishes. Nevertheless the menu is really big so I’d probably give other dishes a try next and see if they are any better.
Really nice gastro pub, great layout, plenty of seats.
We were as part of a large birthday group which is a challenge for both the kitchen and waiting staff but they were amazing.
The staff are fantastic, and the food is delicious.
I had the crab salad followed by a mackerel main, both superb.
I highly recommend it.
This is a great pub that has just reopened following some refurbishment. Couldn't see much change tbh although the front had obviously been painted.
Everything is still good and food, by London prices, reasonable (mains mostly in the teens). Wine is expensive however, most £30 and upwards. Service is friendly.
The slightly disappointing factor was the menu. Starters are original, interesting and well-executed. But mains are pretty much standard pub grub (a steak, a burger, fish and chips, sausages, fried chicken fillet etc). They were good though and maybe with time their pies and specials will return.
Had our Company Christmas Party here, although I have been here a few times being for a beer after work which is a lovely place with great atmosphere. The food I ordered was on the average side but their usual menu is much better. I believe due to the big parties around us as well made it dropped the quality down which was expected when there was probably 80 ppl crammed into the dining area excluding the bar area orders. Nonetheless the staff were helpful and handled everything well even though it was busy.
Great value food and friendly service. Enjoyed the steak and chips and a couple of pints of beer. But can I submit a request to put the chicken escalope back on the menu?
