Love the location and ambiance. The food and service is always excellent. We always come here for dim sum and part of the attraction is that there are some dim sum dishes that exclusive to Kam Tong which you can't find in other dim sum restaurants. We actually live in SE London but always make the effort to come here for family get-togethers.
Every time we go there, the staffs are always quick to find us a table...even during lunch hours, we were given the larger table (fits 4) despite there being just the 2 of us. And some of their dim sum options are different from other restaurants. There are specific items that we particularly like such as the grilled Peking buns. Staffs are always friendly too
Went there with a group of friends staff was courteous. Soup was good too with really good vegetables. The food was really good special shoutout for their chicken and prawns :)
I absolutely love Kam Tong. It is one of my 2 favourites on this street crowded with a surfeit of Asian restaurants.
Their dim sum menu in the afternoon is large, comprehensive and very tasty. They even offer part of their dim sum menu later in the evening for dinner.
I heavily recommend the pumpkin shaped fried dumplings and the pork ribs with fermented black beans is outstanding.
They have sweet dim sum too which are a lovely way to end your meal.
From their main menu, I am most excited about their chicken tom yum soup. Most tom yum soup have shrimp/prawns in their stock. Since I'm allergic to that, I've had to content myself with poor attempts of this superbly flavoursome soup at home. So it's amazing to me to have a shrimp free but very good version of this light yet tasty soup at Kam Tong.
They are very very good with allergies. Most staff know the hidden ingredients (a complicated thing in Asian cooking) in the dishes and will happily reconfirm with the chef to assure you of the presence/absence of allergens.
They have so many interesting things on the menu, that it is very easy to over-order. We almost always end up packing up a dish or two at the end.
The staff is very helpful and a couple of them are now familiar enough with our presence to begin talking and joking with us.
Kam Tong is a snappy restaurant with swift service and a buzzy atmosphere. Their dim sum was very good with generous portions. It's great value too: chicken sausage rice and two cheung fun came in at under £12 which was impressive. I'll definitely go back
Far away from the overwhelmingly busy and touristy Chinatown in Leicester Square lies London's second "Chinatown" in Bayswater where to food is just as good (if not better) and better value for money. If not for its location, this would be my London haunt for Chinese given that quality of food in the area but alas, life is not always fair. On the odd days though when I do find myself in the area, there is one place above all which I can't seem to pass up and that place is Kam Tong.
Located less than 5 mins walk from the tube on Queensway, Kam Tong is headed by Head Chef Chris Kwan, a veteran of the restaurant game with over 35 years experience , most notably Zen Mayfair and Dragon Castle in London, and serves a delightful mix of authentic Cantonese and Asian dishes.
How authentic? I put that to the test with a classic order of hot sour soup preceding BBQ pork and soy chicken on rice - you can't get more authentic than that right? I'm pleased to say that both were fantastic and pretty damn generous too. The hot and sour soup possessed a great balance and was a pleasure whilst the meat in rice was a taste of home - BBQ pork fatty and juicy and the soy chicken on point with a flavour that penetrated deep into the meat. To round things off, we also order a plate of Thai rice noodles which were also great but I was here for a taste of home and I got it.
So all up, a great meal and one I wouldn't be afraid to travel for. If you like Chinese, you will do well here.

Top Marks!. Kam Tong has been here forever but I heard it had recently been taken over by new management this year so was curious to see how it fared in comparison to its previous incarnation and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
We arrived early on a Saturday and there was already a small queue waiting for the doors to open. Once inside, the place is much brighter and although plainer, had some nice details. We were quickly seated and given menus.
We ordered a selection of dim sum and a couple of other dishes. I would highly recommend the dim sum which all turned up hot and tasty. The prawn dumplings were succulent and the pastry skins nice and thin. The pork puffs were flaky, moist and sweet - probably one of the best in town, and the vietnamese spring rolls perfectly crisp and not too oily. They had a couple of items that you don't always see on traditional menus like the curry puff and and the xo scallop dumplings which were really good, as well as the mooli cubes done Malaysian style.
The beef ho fun noodles were also excellent - they can sometime come too oily but here, it was really good and the beef was tender. The veg we ordered (gai lan) was perfectly crisp without being hard. The Hokkien fried rice was also very good. My favourite was the portugese egg tarts - OMG, yum!
Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful,
In summary, this place is a classy one (proper table cloths and napkins), with good quality, authentic food with decent portion sizes at pretty reasonable prices. Top marks! I will definitely come back.
Satisfied. Once again, my friends were craving for Chinese food during our visit in London. We got into Kam Tong a minute before they closed at 10PM.
All dishes were tasty and flavorful but they were all a bit too oily. I just did not agree with their 4 GBP for a small bowl of rice. Servers were nice.
Yummy dimsums... ordered salted fish fried rice and water spinach stir fry Malaysian style... and 2teapot of pu er tea.... perfect food for Sunday... cheers!
Good dim sum and nice Cantonese cooking. Excellent roast duck and with much shorter queues than Royal China up the road.
This place has the best dim sum, we have to stop ourselves going every weekend! Very good value too.
Excellent roast pork, crispy pork belly and roast duck. Even comparable to Hong Kong roast meats! Duck serving is about a quarter duck and prices were reasonable for the portion size. Service came with a smile and friendly chatter. Will definitely be back to try their yum cha and other dishes.
Delicious food, all very fresh, and really well made! I thoroughly enjoyed dim sum at Kam Tong, it gave a very traditional vibe, and really friendly environment.
Only the best Hong Kong style restaurant ever!!!
For a student who misses Hong Kong food!! This is the one cannot be missed!! And all staff knows how to speak cantonese, feel extra like home!!
Fantastic service.
Good service and great dim sum. Not only they serve traditional tienshin dishes, they also make interesting new ones❤️
I came with my friend to test the famous dumpling but they serve it only during lunch until 5 pm. I decided to follow the suggestion of the waittres. Cantonese style of cooking was really delicious. price are equal to other restaurants.
Great tastes. We brought our kids and the plates were all empty even though the portions are generous.
Affordable dimsum, diverse menu of soup, noodles and dim sum, strategically located, short walk from Bayswater tube station. We enjoyed our lunch here. Will come for an evening meal sometime
Very good food and friendly staff. Pleasant surroundings. Would recommend.
We ordered Dim Sum. They were all good. The staff were nice and friendly.
