I was absolutely astonished to see the low votes for this lovely long established fish and chip shop. It's a favourite of mine and I have NEVER been let down by the standard of always fresh cooked and delicious food which I go to at least once or twice a month It was a real gem to find as I am very fussy about finding a decent chippy. There is always a bit of a queue come rain or shine as this place is very popular with locals but it's never a long wait as this hardworking family really keep on top of things and churn out the good stuff as fast as it's needed.
These others must either be from people expecting some kind of haute cuisine from a west end hotel (where they should go instead) or have an axe to grind against a competitor or something. The place is very clean and obviously well kept. The family are great and the value for money is fantastic. As far as London chippy's go this is hard to beat. But maybe some people will like the national dish cooked another way I don't know?
The only possible criticism for any normal fish and chip lover is that they just uniformly do cod and no other fish unless you wait for quite a while. But that's no real drawback anyway - it's fast food. Also, the fish strips are a great treat for kids, small appetites or as a passing snack and I've never seen them elsewhere. I always recommend this place and I reckon you will too.
Oh! And lastly, I've found that the take away portion are a bit bigger than eating in the restaurant but you can always ask for a few more chips if you're still hungry. Don't be put off.
Coming from somebody that doesn't like fish, saying that I'd eat their food all day means that it's really amazing. I've been there many times, and always had fish fingers and chips for a little over £4. The food is greasy, as fish and chips is supposed to be, but the quantity they give you is worth every penny you spend at King Fisher, I always find myself with leftover chips the next day.
The service is quick and the food is really good altough two of the cons of this place are the opening hours and the fact that they're cash only. Not having my favorite fish and chips place open on a Sunday is a bummer, and they also accept only cash, which makes things harder if you're ordering food for two or three people, as on average you spend £5-£8 per person if it's takeaway and more if you also get drinks.
They have a wide selection of food that makes my choice hard every time I go, but knowing how many chips they give you, I always stick to just my fish and chips.
Proper old fashioned chippy. Unlike many places you actually get fish that tastes like something - not the usual bland stuff. Friendly service as well. Will be going back.
Good fish and chips, reasonably priced. The fish is in a very thin batter which I personally liked but of you're looking for that thick crispy batter it's not here from what I could see. Would definitely visit again as this is a proper chippy not one of those that is also a kebab shop and pizza shop
Been here quite a few times now, and the food has always been very good. Also friendly service too. You get very large portion sizes for cod and chips, and it is really great value. The cod always tastes delicious with very nice batter (never soggy) and the chips are always excellent. Recommended!
Absolutely delicious fish and chips. There's no other place like it. Fish melts as you cut into it, no greasy batter. Chips also not greasy. Would highly recommend. I've not had fish and chips like this any where else.
Went there for first time and was very surprised at the quality. Just a pity it doesn’t open until 1pm. Update - still great quality not sure if some of the the bad reviews are for this place as for one thing he doesn’t do Chinese food. And what is wrong with cash only. Always the same guy behind counter when I go.
Lovely cod, nice light crispy batter, excellent chips.
I don't normally do reviews but this chippie was beyond excellent and very deserving of excellent feedback. The fish was sublime and the chips were the crispiest with a fluffy interior I've ever had. Cod was crispy and fresh, thick and juicy with an equally thick and crispy coating. My partner had fried chicken, nice and plump, crisp and tasty, I know as I sampled some. Yum Yum. Service was quick and warm yet professional. Don't know why its located in this area. Would be so much better in Hampstead!
I tell everyone I know that this is the best fish n chips in the whole of London ☺️ The fish , the chips , the mushy peas, the fabulously positive lady that serves you . It’s great allround
Solid fish and chips with the chips being a bit better than the fish actually. Fish was a tiny bit watery and salty feeling with the batter being slightly underwhelming but fine.
Chips nice and golden with a reasonable crispiness to the outside.
Enjoyed very much but a touch of room for improvement.
Well run establishment for a number of years, Chips are nicely cooked with the popular Fish Strips. Will mostly always receive a fresh portion of both due to the busy custom. Service could be a tad more friendly.
