The main was superb, but honestly, I can’t remember EVER having a better starter. My companion and I shared a bowl of popcorn cockles and deep fried whiting. We could have just had another bowl of those for the main. In the event, we moved on to a luscious haddock chowder and heavenly skate wing. Fabulous place.

We visiting MarkG during a trip to the Norfolk coast last year. This guy cooks up some of the best fish and shell fish dishes we have ever had. I would highly recommend booking a table if you are in the area, and yes, you should book We came mid week and the place was packed. I would also advise booking a taxi in advance if. It driving, it can be difficult to get one

Absolutely lovely. Quite possibly the best place in town. Wonderful experience in a cosy atmosphere with absolutely fantastic food. Clearly make with heart and soul and attention to every detail. I would highly recommend the tagine dish as well as the basil coconut panna cotta.

Beautiful sea food cooked to order. I had king prawns and white bait for starter and garlic butter lobster for main. Absolutely unbelievable, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced for the quality of food. Will be returning.

So you walk up through Lowestoft old town, getting more depressed at the gorgeous buildings being ignored. You turn around and start to walk back down the Old High St and at 12 noon, the bells strike, the Old Blue Anchor stores boards catch your eye. We happened in with a beer to quench the thirst, followed by a perusal of the menu. So cockle popcorn as a shared starter, oh yes, a great choice, fresh - tasting of the sea and properly battered to be "popcorny" . Then skate wing with shrimp butter and for my partner a whole plaice with lemon butter and samphire. Both fish are cooked perfectly, just enough to leave the bones cleanly, yet still rich and creamy in texture. The wine list is old and new world, with the Sancerre just 50p more than the Pouilly Fume for a bottle. The Spanish style cheesecake with rhubarb was dessert, complete with a PX sherry and white desert wine, followed by coffee. If you want a reason to visit Lowestoft, it's here. Locally sourced great produce, cooked perfectly and served with gusto. Return visit 6 weeks later with the John Dorey fillet cooked to perfection, this chef is a master of fish.

We visited Mark G last night and we had a lovely evening. The menu and specials were varied, as we are seafood lovers this was an absolute dream and it was very difficult to pick a dish! The portions were good and very well presented. Unfortunately they did not have a kids menu but they were able to accommodate by preparing a small portion of fish and chips which my daughter loved. They had extensive drinks menu, but wish soft drinks were included as I don't drink alcohol. I'm not sure if it was my impression but the server almost seemed annoyed when I asked for what soft drinks they have. We will definitely come back when we are next back in Lowestoft as it was an incredible dining experience! Edit: one comment in hindsight, really didn't enjoy paprika on top of whitebait. Note to chef: it tasted bitter and made me want to cough, normally a spice like that should be cooked out.

Went there for my birthday, it was lovely. Cozy atmosphere, candles, my favourite retro music (jazz, blues) . Food was absolutely delicious 👏. Nice people. Was a bit cold inside, but everything else was great . Thank you

Recently had a meal at Mark G’s in Lowestoft and it was fabulous. Largely seafood menu so if you enjoy that you are in for a treat. I believe you do though need to book in advance. The smoked fish board was delightful, as was all the food served and great service.
