I have requested help with various services during the past few years and some experiences have been extremely positive, others not so great to start with, but always with a good outcome in the end. In 20 years, we have gone from having no consulate in North-West, to be able to access consulate' services on our door step, which is already a massive improvement. Yes, the online system still needs improvement and maybe customer service is not always perfect, but I definitely met a few very open-minded people, who went the extra mile to find a solution to my problems / requests. I am gutted to see so many bad reviews on this page! We've renewed our passports twice in Edinburgh and twice in Manchester since living in the UK! If you get your paperwork sorted, you are well informed prior your appointment, there shouldn't be any issues! I can't fault the staff's assistance, they went above and beyond on each occasion! Had my children's passport renewal. I am Romanian myself and know how the system can be so I took extra documents with me just in case (eg marriage certificate) and indeed I was asked for it. I also took cash....just in case and again I was told cash only. Really friendly staff, waiting time no more than 10 minutes and I was then told my husband had to be also present at the appointment. A special mention and huge thanks to Miss Oana Selaru who attended to us. She went on and processed everything whilst my husband was on his way so we didn't have to wait any further and again attended to us straight away when he arrived. I can understand the frustration of the staff particularly when people just show up with no appointment and no documentation, start shouting and being rude and also expect to be sorted! Hats down to the team! Many thanks again.

I had a visa appointment at this Consulate. Was greeted by a polite security person. I arrived on time for my appointment as stated in the email. The consulate doesn’t have parking but there are plenty of parking options in the area. My appointment went as per schedule. The staff who showed me in for my appointment was friendly. Special mention of the lovely gentleman at counter number 9 (sorry I forgot to ask his name) he is a gem of a person. Helped me even when I forgot a document. We had a little chat about how beautiful Romnia as a country is and he even gave me some travel ideas next time I am there. Overall had a pleasant experience.

The staff dealing with processing of applications were really friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Only took 20 minutes for my passport renewal application. However, one issue I had was with the guy administering paperwork before entering the main room who was unhelpful and impolite when asking for advice by being sarcastic at my questions and unhelpful when I asked what I need to do next as if there was an expectation to know the building! Apart from that, the guy processing my passport application couldn’t have been more helpful and important to mention. Many thanks.
