Slightly off the main street but definitely worth finding if you like a wide beer selection including quite a few cask. There's a broad mix of good quality craft breweries and the mainstream stuff as well to suit most. I didn't try the food on this visit but they sounded like good grazing sharing options for another time. Old school no fuss decor. If you are in the centre looking for a good quality beer in friendly surroundings, this will serve you well

Very good Newcastle pub near the Grey's Monument. 8 cask beers on handpump when I last visited including a dry roasted peanut stout! Lots of outdoor seating most of it covered.
Not too busy after the Spurs game at St James' Park.

Great little place to have a quiet pint during the day, lovely inside and out. Been on a busy Saturday too! Very packed but still delivers a good stop off on a night out.
Tommy Burke
Good pub real ales enjoyed our time there the girl behind the bar was very welcoming and gave us wee taster music was good also will come back to this pub when back in Newcastle .
Kevin Willis
Love this pub As they do sell Gluten free Ale but not all the time. Still great place to meet
Mark Nicholson
Top class ale in the city centre and reasonably priced as well.
Natalia Rotshtein
Nice decor, reasonable pricing.
I had the tacos that were just ok but with the right company a lovely space for conversation!

Nice pub, obviously very popular every day of the week. Food was either cheese board or meat. I had the meat which was roast beef, ham, scotch egg, pickle etc. Very nice and good value too. Beer (real ale) good too.
Steven Taylor
Nice and friendly staff really impressed with the quality of the beers went back twice the flavor and quality of the beers are spit on .the interior of the pub is really impressive would like to see more places like lady greys with the quality of drinks you can sit outside or inside which is good .we will probably go back again tomorrow thanks to the staff and quality beer

First visit, warm and friendly welcome, great choice of beers and a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth another visit
Fiona Wright

Does chessboard and meat platters - not tried.
Aidan Burrell
A nice pleasant, friendly bar. A good pint of beer.
William Mudford
Great selection of ales, and a very helpful barman who provided samples before we ordered. Will visit again.
Luke Stewart
Great pub, nice atmosphere and the only late night pub open in the city everyday of the week.

Really disappointed in our last three Sunday visits here. It used to be our go to place for Sunday lunch, but the last twice food hasn’t been available as the chef had only just started preparing food at 12:00, and today the reason given is the pub has no hot water. I don’t think we’ll be going back for food in future, which is a shame as it used to be so good Gave it a last chance today, Monday 15/01/18, ordered sandwiches and ordered a drink to go with it. Let down again, no bread this time!! Won’t be going back for food, and maybe not at all. Shame, this used to be a great bar for food. Whoever runs the kitchen is letting it down badly.

Great pub. One of the best in town. Eclectic mix of people and always has a good friendly vibe. Good selection of beers but I only drink lager which in my opinion is served perfectly! Food is excellent and good value for money. :)
Andy Huntley
Probably the best pub in the world, and I drink real beer not carlsberg
Vivek Vilay
Absolutely amazing. Had a cheese platter which was devine real ales top notch too.
Tim Jackson
One of the best real ale pubs in NEWCASTLE great choice of ales, decent lagers and single malts .always busy and very nice staff
Joe Russell
Great pub. Have a few their with the Mrs. Every time we visit Newcastle. Large variety of beer all good. Friendly staff. Great value for money.
Julie Gallacher
Hate to say it but disappointing Sunday lunch three times in a row. Having butternut squash as an alternative to meat for a vegetarian dinner is not great-it's just another vegetable in a whole plate of vegetables.
Russ Hazard
One of the best city ale houses I've ever been in. All the staff have an excellent knowledge about their real ales, food is also excellent & the whole atmosphere of the bar is brill. Just a shame we only get to visit a couple of times a year.
Trevor OConnell
Nice pub but at £7.20 for a large gin and tonic it's a bit pricey, and to the stroppy manager who I queried the price with..... it not my problem that one of your tills stopped working.
Lee Botcherby
Quite possibly one of the most underrated pubs in Newcastle. Not only do they have a great selection of drinks but the selection of finger food I've had was very good too. Always a nice atmosphere.
Mark Philip Makey
...always visit my favourite pub when I'm over in England and the variety of ales is first class as is the food the service the friendly atmosphere and the location ! Magnifico !
Thomas Mchugh
nice place but yet another pub that does not cater for diabetics no low sugar drinks such as becks or holsten pils.
Michael Lauder
Nice bar; not the biggest so when it's busy it's rammed. Good selection of alcohol; but it's the food me n the family tend to go in for. Possibly one of the best Sunday lunches in town n 2 for £15 is a bargain.
Stephen Lowthian
Disappointed to learn that the owner of this bar can at the touch of a switch in his house change the price of its drink if the pub goes from empty to full. That is a Micky take.
