📍Bao Bar @ 206 Chillingham Road, Newcastle A personal Chef to a Saudi Arabian prince for 3 years. 🤴 A French-based Chef who's delved in the Mastery of Asian Cuisine. 🗼 A most unassuming bar at Chillingham Road. 🍸 Bao Bar's culinary experience blew me away. The owner and chef, Richard, has carefully curated the menu based on his past experiences in serving at different countries. Don't be deceived by the seemingly miniscule menu; these exact choice dishes have 'dished' a near perfect string of 5-star reviews in Google Reviews, and fourteen thousand Instagram followers. 🥙Tofu Katsu Bao Bun (Curried Mayo & Pickled White Cabbage) - The fluffiness of the 'Bao', the crisp of the Fried Tofu, the crunch of the White Cabbage; it's evident that the combination of textures and flavours were masterfully curated. The taste is incredible. Even the presentation of the dish is just beautiful - minimalistic and classy at the same time. 🍪Warm Miso Cookie - House Made Malt Ice Cream & Salted Caramel - I heard the rumblings of a machine as the dessert was being prepared. It turned out to be an Ice-Cream machine! Richard prepares the ice-cream FRESH. It's the ideal dessert. Try to imagine the culmination of different senses involved in a single mouthful of this - the warmth of the Miso Cookie with the cold freshly-made ice-cream, the sweetness intermingling with the salty caramel layer atop the cookie.. Only 2 dishes from the menu and I was already blown away. Mind you, should you attempt to come, it is safer to make a reservation. The cozy bar only fits a handful of people, and it often is fully booked.

An amazing place which more than lives up to the promise of its instagram feed, so pleased we booked! Soft bao buns with great filling combinations, katsu tofu and the Wagyu beef Wednesday specials were delicious. Yuzu cocktails and miso caramel dessert, with super friendly and attentive service. Thank you Bao Bar for looking after us so well. The counter style tables mean a maximum of 8 people eating in, but the inside is warm and welcoming. I dont write many reviews but I do want to spread the word about this place. What a gem!

From lunch time bao buns to evening tasting menu this place never disappoints. Tonight I had the Christmas Japanese tasting menu and it was so delicious, I'm already eager for my next visit!

Went to Bao Bar on Friday 8/10 for the first time and had the most amazing meal. We got there at 5.30pm and, for half the meal, were the only ones in, where we just chatted with the amazing staff. I was so impressed, the food was some of the best I've had IN Newcastle, it was delicious and can't recommend it enough. We had: - Fried Chicken w/ Sriracha Mayo and Lettuce in Brioche - Beef Tartare w/ Dashi, Soy and Artichoke Crisps - Japanese Popcorn Shrimp w/ Tom Yum sauce - Seared Scallops in Green Namh Jim - Miso Cookie w/ Malt Ice Cream I'd recommend all of them, but especially the Shrimp w/ Tom Yum and Fried Chicken (I hope they keep Brioche Bun as a permanent option!). They are must have! Thank you so much for the fantastic meal.

I have followed them on Instagram for months now, and finally had a chance to get take away Large Bao buns on a Sunday. These are the "large" buns, I can't comment how they compare to the normal/standard sized ones as I haven't had the normal ones before. We had 1 large bun each for lunch, the taste was very delicious and the bun itself is very soft and tasty. I would happily come back again and we look forward to trying out their standard buns and different flavours. I would note that my brother and I agreed that 1 large bun each was not enough to feel full for lunch. So next time we will get 2 buns each, or have a bun as more of a starter, rather than the main portion. Definitely recommended checking them out, also there is free short parking immediately infront of the shop, which is great.

Came here for dinner - food was incredible as were the staff!! The bao buns and rice sticks were both out of this world (highly recommend aubergine katsu bao)! Although small, the staff have addressed the social distancing well with screens in place. Highly recommend it here! Well worth a visit!

Another good addition to the Heaton food and drink scene. Crunchy chicken in a beautifully soft bao bun, with a locally made plum kombucha. A lovely light lunch, give it a try!

Been here for a bite at lunch time. It’s really a cool little place. Tried a chicken Bao bun, Aubergine Bao bun and pork in Brioche bun. And also tried their specials of the week “Japanese ginger” . All of them tasted so different and so tasty. It’s a great place if any one wants to try some real Asian flavours . The chefs are so passionate about what they do. Will be back again .

Very good Asian style food with excellent service and nice staff. Decour was warming and had a feel of Japan. Food ranged between £4-9 for a dish and there is a nice selection of Japanese sake and whiskeys. Definetly worth a visit.
