Had a fantastic sandwich here! Top quality ingredients. They are very popular which was evident by how much had been sold out at quite an early point in the day. That's how you know a place is super tasty! So pro tip, if you want to get something, go a bit earlier. The member who staffed who served us was super friendly to
This is hands down the best bakery in Norwich! Everything is amazing from the croissants that taste authentically French, to the rye bread, sourdough and fougasses that’s to die for. Highly recommend but go early as there’s always a queue!
Has to be one of the best bakeries in Norfolk, not just Norwich. Delicious breads, cakes, hot cross buns and sausage rolls - plus local preserves and other delicacies. Delightful team too - always cheerful and helpful.
Passing this place last week was a momentarily shocking experience. For I never imagined I would see, middle class folk, queuing placidly in the rain for bread.
Foolishly I thought this necessity to queue for a staple like bread, was the result of climate change, or the vagaries of a hard Brexit and i felt my ego swell with a glorious narcissistic rage, and an urge to join the gilded folk of the golden triangle in forming a vegan-workers cooperative for the protection of our inalienable right to subsidised bread.
Fortunately, I learned quickly that in the lamentable absence of a nearby Waitrose, this little bakery was courageously making up for the lack with excellently baked bread and cakes. I joined the queue and bought an excellent loaf. It was expensive, but definitely worth it for a treat.
However, when I spend a small fortune on a French Stick, I would like what I normally receive in Gregg's, the simple acknowledgement of our shared humanity: A smile.
Edit: i have returned to Dozen about a dozen times since making the above observation. And on each occasion i was served by friendly, pleasant and humane member of staff. It is a wonderful bakery, one of the best in the UK, so along with the quality of the staff, a very well deserved 5 stars.
Easily the best bakery in Norwich. I absolutely love their (sourdough) breads as they have a nice selection. But also the pastries are delicious.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. A nice range of baked goods and a few locally produced other stuff (some local chocolate and deli meat, Eve's farm veg, baron bigod, some jams etc too)
Nice to find some savoury pastries. I got a cheese twist, some ricciarelli, choc croissant and cinnamon roll - all delicious .
Update Jan 23: all the above still applies. I went on a Saturday morning for the fougasse and focaccia - fresh from the oven and amazing!
Wonderful bakery, best in town. A Saturday treat is a loaf of white sourdough and croissants. Absolutely delicious!
What a lovely, friendly place. The almond pastries are to die for 😋
Definitely the best bread you could wish for, by far the best in Norwich. The other bakes are also lovely and the jams etc. are an added treat. One of my favourite day off treats is bread and butter from here.
In my humble opinion the best sourdough bread in Norwich. Clean shop. Good choice. Lovely service. Priced for quality. You know it's good when you queue for 25 minutes on a Saturday morning in Covid times.
