The Goat Pizza

What a find. It is refreshing to know that in an age of bland chains and faceless corporate restaurants that such places as this exist. It is undoubtedly one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. It is about as authentic as one could hope for, the staff were amazingly friendly. If you love tasty pizzas and individual restaurants with character, then get yourselves down to The Goat.

Freezing cold Sunday evening in Portsmouth in early March and we had ages to wait before our overnight ferry. No one would both feed us and let our well behaved dog sit with us except these guys who welcomed us in with open arms, made me a pizza without cow's cheese, gave the dog some sausage and if that wasn't enough, made us something for breakfast in the morning when we would get off our boat at 6am! Highly recommended. Really authentic napolitan pizza in a real woodfired oven which crackled with real logs. Fabulous! A little kindness goes a long way in our beleaguered world. And it tasted wonderful too.

Decided to pop in to try the pizza here as noticed this place on my daily commute. There’s no sign outside so you wouldn’t really know it was there! It’s truly a hidden gem! I went in with my daughter this evening, we were greeted by Paul and Fortunato, Paul explained the entire menu and ingredients used, they were very proud of how fresh the ingredients are! Fortunato gave us a sample of their mozzarella! I’ve never tasted a mozzarella like it before! It was so milky and cheesy! Delicious! We were sold on the Buffalo Margherita which has a Tomato base, Buffalo Mozzarella and fresh Basil! and the San Daniele which was topped with Sun dried tomato, prosciutto, Fior de latte, Parmesan and rocket! They use a traditional style pizza oven which adds to the authentic taste and style of the pizzas! Once we got home; we tore into the pizza box and tasted the food, the pizzas were very delicious! The house favourite was the Buffalo Margherita! Cooked perfectly and very tasty despite its simple appearance! I definitely recommend people try this place! It’s one to look out for!
