Lovely meal here today, our first visit and will definitely return. Great kids menu and all the adults enjoyed their meals too....but we had no room for dessert! See you again soon!
A great place to eat - fantastic food and great service ,set in a stunning venue and lovely surrounding - highly recommend !
If there’s one thing Cheshire has in abundance it’s picturesque rural pubs that serve exceptional food. When I heard that Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft’s Ribble Valley Inns were moving south and taking over The Nags Head at Haughton I was intrigued to see what they would do with it to stand out from the crowd.
I turn down most previews I get these days, and I don't really like opening night parties with canapés and PA networking , but this one really appealed to me. From the same stable as Michelin starred Northcote (where we visited and thoroughly enjoyed just before I started this website), The Nags Head is Ribble Valley Inns first foray into Cheshire. They obviously know that the local market will sustain a quality dining pub. On the way, and not far off The Yew Tree inn in Bunbury has been on the 'to eat list' for a while and we've also enjoyed The Pheasant Inn in Higher Burwardsley in years gone by too. If only we had somewhere like this where we live in Chorlton, but the market is very different (it's style over content here). The interior has been done very sympathetically with some style and money although some people may not appreciate the actual shotguns built into the tables. The old stocks and the tethers for horses in the car park are a cute touch.
We visited the Nag's Head for the first time in many years for a birthday family lunch. There were nine of us including a 1 year-old and a 3 year-old.
We were seated in the Orangery which was perfect, with a lovely view to the gardens. The atmosphere was very relaxed, lots of other families, some with dogs, and children popping out to the garden to have a quick run around between courses. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful from start to finish. The food was essentially traditional pub food, but done to a very high standard.
We all had a great afternoon.
Brilliant afternoon! All roasts thoroughly enjoyed. The veggie roast dinner was possibly the nicest I've ever had. The potatoes weren't amazing but the rest of it was incredible. I didn't notice with the veggie roast but the two meat eaters did mention their cabbage/kale was gritty as if it hadn't been washed properly. With the beef, it came very rare so if that's not your thing I'd mention it. Puddings were great & the kids portions were big too. It's expensive but well worth the extra few quid. Staff were chilled & helpful too. Thanks!
One of the best meals I’ve had this year!
The food was exceptional and the whole table said the same thing. Beer and Wine choice was great too with the staff really knowing their stuff to recommend the best wine pairings. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Even better that it’s dog friendly. Would give it 10 stars if I could.
very nice pub 👍🏻 everytime when we come to the UK we stop here for a drink and a nice meal… under the new owner its even better 👍🏻
Class!!!
Amazing atmosphere, surroundings, food and staff!! Feel blessed to have The Nags in Cheshire. Don’t change a thing please
Fantastic place. Lovely peaceful setting with extensive kid-friendly outdoor space too. Only popped in for a quick drink and a few items from the bar/lunch menu but I was struck by the excellent friendly service from the staff who had a great knowledge of the beers and fare on offer. I visited on a quiet Thursday afternoon during term-time, I suspect this place could get busy with families with toddlers and dogs at peak times which is something to keep in mind. Well worth taking a trip or making a diversion to.
A stunning country pub with excellent service and food to match. We stopped by for some lunch, we each had steak and ale pie. Thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the kale, something I don't usually think to have. We'll be back again
Had a delightful meal at the Nags head.everything they do is really good. Lovely traditional country pub. Kiddie friendly, dog friendly, great atmosphere.staff were excellent, and the food was brilliant. What more can you say.
Had a really nice meal here. Only minor gripe was we weren't told when booking that they closed the kitchen at 6pm on Sunday, and we booked on for 5pm. Hence it was a tad confusing ordering deserts etc.
Amazing setting, especially if like us you have kids, due to the lovely grounds. Pub itself is beautifully put together, with rustic and artisan themes, roaring fires and modern touches. Food was top notch as well and accommodating my imported GF burger bun was appreciated. The fact that the owners are responsible for Altrincham Market and Mackie Mayor is obvious here; absolute quality throughout. We will be coming again and once the Yurts and shepherds huts are up and running, think we will be staying the night!
