Only had a meal here but found this hotel to be really nice, large downstairs rooms, restaurant was clean and staff friendly, dog friendly in bar. Meals were nice, doggy menus to which was really nice touch. Looking forward to going back. Very central location
We came here to visit a few friends in Thetford and The Bell hotel was one of the hotels that was great value, we really liked our room and it was really easy to check in and get our keys. We slept really well and the dinner was delicious too. It's really close to the town centre too which means it was perfect after nightclubbing to come here and relax rather than the stress of travelling on a weekend!
Really impressed with my stay here, reception lady was lovely and friendly checking us in, room was immaculate, bed was super comfy, had a meal in the bar and was very good also, will definitely stay here again next time we are in Thetford.
Had an amazing stay here! So comfy bed, felt like I was sleeping in a cloud! I could of stayed their all day 🥰 room was beautiful homely ans huge! The bathroom was big and had a relaxing bath. Lovely staff, very helpful and polite even when rushed off their feet! Thank you for a brilliant couple of night stays! Will come again
Nice hotel, brilliant location for what we wanted. Took my father for Father's day to do a tour of the Dad's Army route. I was pleased to see the original cast stayed in this hotel. Was dog friendly so that was handy for us. We had 2 rooms for all of our group. Rooms were very warm, didn't eat here but seen the food served, looked very nice. Lovely Riverside walk next to the hotel. There were loads of teenagers roaming around at night, really loud and seemed to be looking for trouble, one night a group of 4 came into the pubs beer garden and started shouting at a table of grown men, they were sent away by staff. I didn't feel safe walking around the area at late evening or night. This wasn't the hotels fault by any means as they were not guests at the hotel.
Well obviously i put a review up a few weeks ago, It retains a lovely atmosphere , nice staff, I am still waiting for the family, So we can enjoy a nice meal,The menu looks good, and a good central place to stay, Thetford is unique, so are the people, and The Bell is very dear to our hearts ,Long may it reign.
Treading in Arthur Lowe's, and John LeMesurier's footsteps, according to the photos on the walls, at least, but I suspect that this isn't the only place in Thetford that trades on that legacy...
What I do know for certain, is that the Guinness was ice cold, and excellent. While that should be a given, my experience of Greene King pubs is that it ain't necessarily so.
In short, if you're in Thetford, and looking for a decent pint, don't panic (Corporal Jones, or Douglas Adams?)... Just pop in the Bell, and everything will be alright
Hotel is in the heart of Thetford town centre and has parking (make sure you register your car at reception to avoid a fine) Reception staff are lovely along with the rest of the team. My room (26) was in desperate need of renovation, the shelf above the sink came out of the wall when I placed some toiletries on it. The bath taps had a mountain of sealant behind it, both the sink and bath plug holes were very stained and the bath panel wasn't fitted properly. Finally the headboard was worn out and falling apart.
Wifi was excellent all over the Hotel. I had breakfast two mornings which was hot and freshly cooked. Breakfast opens at 07:00. I would prefer it to be 06:30 as the time it took to order and eay my breakfast made me late for an 08:00 meeting.
Finally I arrived back to the hotel at 23:30 one night to be greeted by the staff stood in the entrance smoking making a terrible smell which found its way back into reception.
Although this might sound a bad review it is still a nice hotel made better bythe staff
EXCELLENT staff...everyone went above and beyond to help me. Nice establishment. The location is near shops and not too far from the train station. Thank you all so very much!

The Bell is a quiet treasure. The rooms we stayed in were the old ones and look dated but are quite charming. The staff were superb, and went way above and beyond - I gave it 5 despite the most surly and borderline rude lass I have met in a while serving breakfast. Fortunately we were all amused by her: she seemed as unhappy to be up at 8.30am as we were.
Also I phoned to check the restaurant was open the night before but by time I walked down ten minutes later food had long ended. Not sure what happened there! Despite this all the other staff were so lovely and helpful, producing loads of coffee, smart TVs and giving up time to chat with me.
Location wise The Bell is great. There is a hotel car park just make sure you give your details at reception. I did not check the WiFi.
It's a great hotel, do try it!
