Tavern On Main

We have been wanting to try the Tavern on Main for some time but it was usually full. We lucked out this time with two bar seats available for my wife and I. Typical tavern atmosphere, relaxed and inviting. They were pretty jammed being 7pm on the eve of July fourth which is one of the busiest weeks down here. Service was a little slow but the bartender apologized in advance. Gave us time to look the menu over. We decided to share the sausage platter and the salad with black bean hummus. Both were fantastic. We finished with the chocolate chip bread pudding which was equally good. I was frankly a little surprised at how good the food was. When things wound down at the end of our visit the bartender had a few minutes to chat. Knowing that I no longer drink alcohol she offered up a virgin drink of my choice, on the house. I had a mojito which I have to say was excellent even without alcohol. When the check came we also saw she comped us our sodas for the long wait. I did not expect that. I know we will be visiting again. It made the list of our top handful of places and we have been to many as we eat out often. Hopefully the other dishes are as good as the couple we tried. As to the wait. Not the end of the world. We weren’t ignored and I suspect they were backed up in the kitchen likely short staffed. The food and out friendly bartender made up for it. I wish I caught her name, but she was a sweetheart.
