The Greek Taverna

After an abysmal Greek culinary experience in Shepton Mallet, arrived at the Greek Taverna in Wells with some trepidation. However, I was transported back to Amorgos, where the sun shines, the staff shines and the cuisine shines too. Greek beers, wines, fizzy pop, homemade hummus, cheese, bread ... the use of Greek olive oil ... all very Greek and quite pleasant. A delight in every way!!!

Authentic Greek restaurants are not an easy find and this family run one was a welcome discovery. The opening hours are somewhat limited and I would recommend booking a table in advance. We got lucky, we arrived at opening time without a booking and were able to be accommodated as long as we vacated our table by 19.30. We enjoyed a lovely meal with good service. As we were on holiday at the time and Wells is over a 100 miles away from our home, our only regret is that we don't know when we'll have the pleasure of visiting again.

It was absolutely incredible! We came a long way from Bristol with the intention to have a meal in the Sun inn. We hadn’t made any reservations, I only called up a couple of hours before they opened. The lady on the phone was extremely polite, friendly and accommodating, and she managed to get us our reservation on the spot. The food is stunning. I am Greek, so my standards are high. I can confirm, it’s the best Greek I’ve had in the UK since living here, for the last 6 years. The restaurant is lovely and cosy, they play Greek music and it felt like home. My partner, who is English, she also loved every bit of it as well. She wants to make it known, that this feels really authentic comparing to other, Greek chain restaurants in the UK. Booked for two on a Thursday evening. Choice of seating, extremely friendly staff and a lovely standard menu. Amazing specials board which we both went for with a bottle of house red. Delicious starter beautifully served followed by a main course which I have never tried before and was gorgeous. My partner's special was equally delicious. Nice desserts menu also. Good honest clean food served with passion. Great place, good atmos, knowledgeable staff and not expensive. What's not to like? Cannot wait to return. Well done guys you are a credit to Wells.

Great little restaurant, booking recommend at weekends. Our waiter was fantastic. Kindly fitted us in between bookings as we had no reservation. They don't advertise a kids menu but will do nearly all the mains as a half portion, which is basically half the main bit (meat/fish) and just as many chips and sides. Service speed was spot on and the waiter was attentive enough to know we mattered but not so much he became annoying. Children really liked the imported Greek sour cherry fizzy drink. I highy recommend the burgers 'not in a bun'.
