Bring a camera with decent zoom (I forgot mine) for great photo ops with seals, oystercatcher and starlings. And the Lighthouse of course! Lovely little gift shop staffed by the friendliest volunteers in the world.

Beautiful lighthouse by the coast, which you can climb (for a fee) for great views of the surrounding areas. Cute gift shop inside too. If you're lucky you'll also see the seals, we did when we went! About a 15 min walk from the nearest bus stop, with car parking nearby. Make sure to check the tide times so you aren't stranded on/off the island!

We find this very beautiful and impressive place from a road sign. It is one of the best coastal attractions I have ever been to. One of the most important remarks is that you can only find the path to the lighthouse during the low tide period. Please check the tide timetable beforehand. Besides, I highly recommend you to walk to the top of the lighthouse. The entrance fee is very reasonable. You can enjoy the wide scenery and view the unique structure of this antique building.

Fab day. Just make sure you check the times of the tides. My daughter enjoyed finding little critters in the water between the rocks but once the tide starts coming in, it does so quite quickly so don't get stuck on the island. Lots to do, especially for children. It's also a very lovely spot if you just want to sit with a hot drink and take in the views. People were very friendly.

Really fun place for all ages. The whole area really nice to walk around. You could go rock pooling with the kids and see the lighthouses. Inside it are some really cool shop models and statues and an overview of the lighthouse itself. When heading up the light house do be careful when you’re at the top as you may bump your head. The view from the top is nice and you could see some seals. If you’re interested in seals you can head down to a seal watching area just behind the light house. Overall it is a nice place for a day out.

Unbelievable place to visit. Parking application Ringo £3 all day, but half mile away is free parking as well. Ice cream van, burger van. Recommend to visit. Our family visited the second time during this summer. Great and beautiful place. This time evening, there was no water between lighthouse and beach front, and they easily got to the small island walking. There are plenty of caravan parks and places to stay around but book places before as this travelling direction is always busy. Have a nice time here!

Arrived at about 6.30pm as we were staying local and wanted to look around the area. The tide was out, and we walked over the road that would be submerged if the tide was in. There is loads of rock pools on either side and lovely views. We got to the lighthouse and walked around and saw lots of seals. Some were close, but others were further away, and some swimming about. The lighthouse was closed when we got there but it is open I think during the day. Well worth a visit.

Great place for families. Can do a quiet retreat here. Also can gathering friends along the sea. Waves a bit high, sometimes have the wind strong and it is obviously cold on winter. But there are always had some guys there for bird watching or just hiking. Some restaurants nearby. Convenient as there is a car park right at the spot.

What a lovely lighthouse in a lovely setting in the North East coast of the UK. The lighthouse itself could do with a lick of paint as it looks bit dated. Sadly missed the opportunity to walk across to the lighthouse itself as the tide was in. But was a lively walk along the beach / cliff tops from Whitley bay. Do be careful as there is bit of a drop from the cliff edge and no barrier to stop you or anyone going over. Well worth a visit on a lovely summers day and i hear its quite a spectacle to see the waves crashing over it in winter whilst there is a gale blowing!

We had a really great few hours visiting St Mary's lighthouse. Parking was easy (weekday in june). The walk up to the lighthouse is brilliant with loads of rock pools for the kids to explore. We paid £9 for a family.of 4 to go up the lighthouse, there are 137 steep steps so we took our time with the little kids, but it was only us there so we could relax. The view from the top is beautiful. You can see for miles and also it's a great vantage point to see the seals on the rocks below. The little gift shop was well stocked with nice little gifts. The vantage point to see the seals was good, great views of the seals in their natural habitat.
