Almaz

Like others stumbled across this little place Almaz, Saahil was our server. Excellent service and the food was fantastic. The flavours were out of this world. We had a large selection and not a single dish disappointed with the flavours. Did read some of the other reviews glad we ignored them. Recommend highly, we did visit a tapas with great reviews last night but sadly no flavours and at best a 3 for the service only. Oh the wife loves the cocktails. The toilets were also very clean and smelled great for a gents toilet.

I'm a York local. I like to think I've tried a fair few spots so when I say this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in the city, please understand that isn't hyperbole. Our chairs were pulled out for us to sit down, and the server came and took our orders quickly - he made sure to come and check on us often and offered to refill our sauces, and was just generally charming. I can honestly say I've never received nicer service at a restaurant. The food was incredible, and I really recommend the meats so you can experience the wonderful flavours. (And if you can't eat it all, they'll wrap it up for you, too!) A few reviews on Google complain about either the takeaway, or the price, but for a sit-in meal within the York walls - you'll soon find these prices were normal for York, and fine. The portions were big, and we felt full when we'd finished. The atmosphere is also incredible. Authentic music is playing so you never felt awkward and the seating was very comfortable. I very much enjoyed myself and I can't recommend it enough. It truly is a hidden gem in York.

Had family visiting and because of train delays they arrived quite late. As a result, we struggled to find a place that was still serving non night out foods (Kebabs, Fast-food, etc.) We walked by this place as they were closing and they were kind enough to take us in for dinner, we all had pizza (margaritas and pepperoni) which were very good, made on the spot with what looked like fresh dough and everything. Would like to visit at a normal time to get an idea of this place’s full potential.

Looking for an early evening meal with our two young children, and no booking, we got an amazingly warm welcome and superb service throughout. Super friendly and helpful. Very nice decor and atmosphere. Stunningly delicious food - I ordered the sea bass and it was perfectly pan fried, with beautifully cooked onion, tomatoes and peppers, and perfectly cooked rice, with a gorgeous slightly sweet lemon dressing on the salad - sublime. I also tried my little one’s pizza with chicken and that was also amazing. Wish I could eat here every day tbh :)

Stumbled onto this restaurant as on a Monday a few are closed and so glad we did. Food was fantastic. We had the mixed combination and it was fabulous. The meats were tender and well spiced. Really tasty. The rice was delightful. Aromatic and light. Best I’ve had. I’ve read a couple of negative comments but for life of me I’ve no idea how you couldn’t love the food. I like to eat out, I eat out a lot and this will now be one of my go to little favourite restaurants. Is it the fanciest place I’ll eat no, but with food and service this good I couldn’t care less. I’d recommend you give it a try. Thanks for a lovely evening. Couldn’t fault it. 👍

I ordered mandi lamb with mandi rice and knafah after that I ordered shisha , it was perfect and all arabic food here has good quality , the rice was good the meat was the best and it served with two different salads and some vegetables , it is the only restaurant cooks mandi in york , the staff was friendly and helpful the service is great there and i met the owner of the restaurant he was nice and he works there, but it is quite expensive . Shisha is for 17 pounds it is quite expensive but it is the cheapest shisha in york and the best . It is huge recommendation specially for arabic people to try arabic food in york .
