The Chef reccomendWe visited here as we have just moved to the area and they are highly rated - can see why! We were served by a very friendly owner who is clearly very passionate about his business. We left with our food and as I walked down the step I saw my fianceé trip and drop her meal. The owner rushed out to check she was ok as his member of staff made another without question and he would not accept payment for it. Second time around we made it to the car and tucked into a fantastic fish and chips. Defiant regulars from now on
I have been going to Keelings for a number of years, not just because I am local but because the food & service is always first class. Really friendly staff. I would gladly recommend Keelings to anybody who appreciates superbly cooked and presented food.
Always come to this litte gem of a fish shop...fresh fish cooked as you wait i am not gluton intolerant but my daughter is so we can both share this delightful food ....would highly recommend
This is a fish bar and not a restaurant but is my place of choice. Quality food cooked well and served with a smile - delicious!
Gluten free cooking every day the owner is coeliac so knows all about cross contamination. We go there at least 3 times a month never been ill yet. Would highly recommend for coeliacs and none coeliac delicious
My sister recommended this place, and we were not disappointed, the portions were ample with fresh fish chips and peas, keeling's is on a street corner on a busy road and the parking is not great. there are a few side streets close by were parking is available. fish and chips is not my tipple but I do enjoy occasionally and will return.
I’ve tried a few different places but Keelings are the best in Barnsley! They even do a gluten free curry sauce which is super NOM!!!! Thank you...

I have been going to Keelings Fish Bar since been at Holgate school around 14 years ago! I now visit on a weekly basis for my dinner. It’s always great to chat to Ian and have a cuppa tea. His home made parsley fish cakes are lovely! Defiantly one of the best chippy’s in the UK! Thanks Matthew
Love this place nice owners and as my daughter and husband both have coeliacs disease they both have too have gluten free and this place does really nice gluten free fish and chips love it
Great as all fish and chips etc are gluten free as the owner has Coeliac disease. Fish is beautiful, white and flaky and you can't tell the difference that the batter is gluten free! Would highly recommend.
Went to Keelings on a flying visit to Barnsley. Really amazing fish and chips and totally gluten free. It really is a dream come true for coeliacs. The batter is gluten free and tasted so good - my non coeliac family couldn’t tell the difference. We all gave it a massive thumbs up. Will definitely be visiting again!!
Living outside of Barnsley I have only visited this chippy twice, but the food was very good both times. I was surprised that no fish were visible in the heated display unit, but on asking was advised that the fish are cooked to order. So, a short wait was required before getting served, this may be annoying to some, but you cannot beat fresh cooked fish, unlike some places where the fish is kept warm for long periods. So in conclusion, a nice clean establishment, very fresh food, a good owner who is passionate about his product, so what's not to like at this, as we say in S Yorkshire, "chip oile". Good Value for money.
Very nice and helpful staff. We very much enjoyed our meals though my husband said his could have been a little bit hotter however this did not spoil the experience for us at all.
We first found Keelings after a Google search for gluten free fish and chips and loved it so much that we planned it in as a stop on our next journey that took us nearby. The food was superb (fish, chips, homemade fish cake, steak pie and sausages) and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. All the batter used at Keelings is gluten free and it is as crispy, light and golden as anyone could desire. Prices were very reasonable too. We can’t wait for our next visit!
are usual chip shop was closed so we decided to try keelings after reading TripAdvisor reports. It's started well the fish was cooked to order for us so was very fresh. The portion sizes were also pretty large. It isn't the cheapest of fish and chip shops around so we expected great things. Unfortunately we were left a little disappointed. The fish fresh out the flyer had not been drained enough and so was absolutely full of grease by the time we got it home.It had soaked through the paper completely and was pooling inside the bag. Not the most appetising sight to greet you as I'm sure you can imagine. The chips are ok that's about all I can say, there were plenty of them, too many in fact and I felt a bit over facee but that's awful for ordering too many! unfortunately there were a little soggy and like the fish or perhaps because they were in the same bag as the fish they were very greasy too. Perhaps they were having an off day I don't know but it's put me off returning. All in all they weren't bad but they weren't great I prefer my fish and chips to be less oily.
Keelings certainly is the best fish and chips ive personally ever had! And like mentioned puts all southern chippys to shame! The Gluten free options beautiful and id highly advise to get the fish an curry sauce!
Locally sourced food, cooked to a high standard. Cooked fresh to order. Would definitely recommend. Friendly staff.
