I took my family here one morning recently for breakfast, and I have to say I was impressed and had a great meal and experience. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a smile and shown to a table which was clean and plenty of space (I’m a big fella). The menu is what you’d expect from a typical greasy spoon, but the prices are very reasonable. We decided to all order from the “create your own breakfast” menu, which is a great idea as you don’t have to worry about asking to sub out things you don’t like from set breakfasts. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from 85p-1.20 per item, and some of them include 2 items for the single price, such as 2 hash browns for 85p, or 2 bacon for 1.20). I ordered a huge plate of food including a sausage, 2 bacon, 2 black pudding, fried bread, beans, fried egg and a coke- which all came to about 6 quid. That to me is a great deal considering it’s all including the bread item and drink, which most other places will come to more. Overall, it was a great meal which filled me up and was all cooked well (amazing fried bread) and came out in lightning quick time with no mistakes. If I had to criticise anything, I would say the bacon was a little pedestrian and average supermarket tasting, and the black pudding was a bit bland and looked to be a cheaper brand. However, for the price the breakfast was great, service was perfect and I would definitely come here again for a fry up.
Remember this is just based on a fry up, not the other meals on the menu. I’ve read other reviews slamming the lunch and dinner stuff, but as far as the breakfasts are concerned I think they’re great!
EDIT: I recently went here again to escape the heatwave and had a pleasant lunch and drink. Burgers are simple but tasty and cheap, and the chips are nice and crispy. This place is the backbone of ordinary people in Canterbury, serving simple honest food for value prices, and the service is great!
Fantastic food and service. The eggs were delicious ^_^ 10/10
Ate here a number of times and always good food. The service is quick and the selection large. The price is very reasonable when compared with other eating establishments.
The food served up is nothing fancy, so if that's what you want don't waste your time. If you enjoy good cooking and a workmens meal go here.
Excellent cafe. Great service. Superb value for money. Varied choice of menu. Delicious deserts. Lamb roast was very good & good price of 7.99. Quick service.
Fabulous find in the heart of Canterbury.
I'm a frequent visitor to this quick and easy cafe. Although it calls itself a 'restaurant' it is definitely more tailored towards cafe/dinner-style service. Brilliant for students as its rates are cheap and the portions are large enough that it feels a bargain. Highly recommended.
Good reasonably priced food popular with locals. Friendly staff who are very helpful. Wheelchair access is possible although I didn't see any area for wheelchairs I'm sure staff would assist were required height challegend need not worry as there are no counters.
Lovely diner, often come here for breakfast my grandson loves the milkshakes . We ordered a variety of different dishes, jacket potato, full English breakfast, sausage and bacon baguette and beans and scr5ambked egg on toast. Everything was hot and fresh. The staff are pleasant.
Such friendly staff and good service. Food is lovely and reasonably priced.
We visited Canterbury recently with no idea of where to eat, and expecting such a city to be expensive. We were delighted to come across Poppies by accident. The food was excellent, and was served without delay, and in clean surroundings. Excellent value for money, and definitely one to remember.
I adore this place! Come here every week for the past 2-3 years now, the girls are lovely and you get good portions of food for what you pay. Couldn’t fault it 🥳
