Lovely hotel. Bing Crosby, a true Hollywood star of old, stayed here when he was 'gone fishin' on the river Derwent. Nice food, good atmosphere, pleasant staff.

(Review for the Sunday roast!) - date of visit: August 2023. We had to book in advanced for the recommended Sunday roast. The hotel itself is impeccably decorated and well-kept. Staff front of house and those who served us were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We were given a choice of seating options and once we sat down, immediately you can tell the hotel is of high quality. It was empty and we spoke with a couple who were very interested in our food options. We all opted for Sunday roast. No messing around, everything from our drink orders to food; all timed perfectly. Starters, mains and desserts. All food is of the highest quality and made with fresh ingredients. Look at the size of the Yorkshire puddings! We were all very full; especially when our arm was twisted for dessert! Happy to pay service charge and well worth the cost. Please visit, you won’t be disappointed!

I never actually stayed in a room. But, I attended the restaurant three evenings in a row. All I can say is you would not be disappointed unless you're in a coma. Fantastic welcoming, and attentive, staff. Made me a drink that was not on the menu, and remembered my drinks order on the following visits. Food was delicious, and presently wonderfully. I recommend the pan fried sea bass main dish. But, I also recommend anything on the menu. Very versatile chef who allowed me to change certain aspects, just to my mere taste preferences. I really cannot rate the place higher than I am already doing so. The only true quality place to eat in Cockermouth, and I'm sure far beyond the area too. Top marks, for a top establishment. I do wish I could eat there every day. Excellent, to say the very least.

Although we just had a birthday meal, the decor of the hotel was spectacular! The food was outstanding and the service was excellent! We would definitely recommend the Trout Hotel for a special occasion.

Stayed at the Trout Hotel many times and on this occasion we could see the slight differences and corner cutting that has taken place. Reception and breakfast staff were great. Restaurant staff less so. Almost begrudgingly provided a mediocre level of service. A smile does not cost anything but creates a great impact. Food has also changes in some areas; more of a gastro pub menu. That said, food was good albiet a tad rushed between courses. No bottled water in the room which was missed, doesnt have to be posh water but little touches make the difference. Even the bathroom mini bottles were reduced and we stayed in a more premium room. The breakfast was however very good. Probably visit again but needs a little lift overall .

We had a meal here and the food was amazing nice and hot full of flavour and nicely presented. However the waiter let it down unfortunately there was a young lad behind the bar who was working so very hard and a slightly older chap well let's just say he did like to talk to those he knew. Twice we tried to get his attention but he managed to look the other way when he had looked straight at us. In the end the younger lad seemed to be doing his job as well. Our empty glasses didn't get taken away the whole time we were eating even when we ordered more drinks. The only time the older chap seemed to move a bit quicker was when I asked for the bill. This is a shame because I have eaten here before and the service was amazing hopefully one bad apple won't spoil the barrel as they say. I must say tho the restaurant and rest rooms are spotlessly clean and again the food was amazing.

Lost count of the times I've been here for lunch. Always consistent. Wonderful food, relaxing surroundings, excellent, friendly service and plenty of parking space.
