My Girlfriend and I came here for our three year anniversary and were so impressed by everything ! From the locally sourced food, the lovely plating and the wonderful service. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to try new flavours and experiment on dishes that you would not get to try at many other restaurants. Thank you so much for the evening and look forward to visiting again soon !
First time we visit to this lovely unassuming restaurant on Pie Sunday (16.2) for a Birthday meal for three. And boy, we weren’t disappointed. The five star reviews of this place on Tripadvisor are well justified. The lovely, owner Jo & Stuart rum this small restaurant well. Each course is tasty & well presented. Waiting time hardly any & just such a nice place to dine. We really appreciated that Jo had the time to chat with us & explain the menu thoroughly- we went for the three course meal & we were stuffed to the gills. Their pies 🥧 are superb. As well as their starters & dessert. Especially the blood orange sponge pudding with homemade custard was to die for. Jo does her own jams & I do hope that she’ll take the hint & put a few of her homemade jams up for sale on those shelves of hers...definitely will come back again. Thank you Jo & team for making us feel welcome!
We have visited a few times and it just gets better. The menu was veggie, and non of us are but the flavours were absolutely stunning and they took cheese to a whole new level
We have been to this restaurant a few times now and each visit has delivered a refreshingly different menu our latest visit was a vegetarian taster menu. Each course was very different and hats off to the chef for creating something even non vegies could toughly enjoy
Grab yourself a few bottles of wine and try it out
Went on a Saturday lunch and can’t fault the food, service or value! Small venue so you should book but less than 15 mins walk from station. No licence but happy for you to bring your own. We will definitely be back...hoping to make an evening next time.
My friend and I visited because his aunt had gave him a voucher for £30 off and it wouldn’t particularly be our usual choice of restaurant however we gave it a go the exquisite dishes and the large variety of courses really opened our eyes to new things although we weren’t totally sold on some of them for example the herring, buttermilk, saffron and egg dish we were understanding of the fact it may not have been aimed at our tastebuds but we appreciated the effort that had gone into it. A favourite of ours was the pigs head, bacon, aioli and chives which surprisingly we were the most skeptical about. The excellent service and the time taken by the chef to come and explain the dishes went a long way although it may not be our kind of place it certainly was an amazing experience thank you guys!
Went here with my partner and another couple after reading rave reviews. It was sensational.
7 small plates to be shared between 2 people. Each one exquisitely crafted with amazing flavours.
Superb service too.
Lovely unusual food shared between the two of us. There wasn’t a lot of food to share but the price was good as the concept was interesting.
We came here when they did their roots and shoots menu and we absolutely loved it! Such a bargain for what you get. All of the food was absolutely delicious and the woman that owns the restaurant was there bringing the food out and explaining what every meal is. Every course complimented the other. Honestly could not recommend it here anymore!
Nice food if you like pie/pastry and creative dishes. Quite big portions! It was our first time there and staff was very friendly and helpful.
I loved my first visit to this small restaurant to sample Pie Sunday: four pies to choose from, including a delicious and rich vegetarian pumpkin and kale pie, plus interesting starters and desserts. The sourkraut side dish was delicate and sublime. The service is relaxed, attentive and very friendly. In fact it’s a bit like being served gorgeous home cooking in somebody’s home. Comforting, tasty, and very good value.
Pie Sunday lunch
Birthday lunch we chose 3 courses all superbly delicious
The pie ham leek in a cheese sauce was so delicious I could have eaten 2
The mash well we asked for an extra portion !!!
Very good value for money as we brought our own wine
We will return
Fab service thank you can’t recommend enough
Visited for the second time, trying lunch instead. Delicious wintery, almost festive-y (If that’s not a word, it should be) dishes. Orzo is definitely one of your specialities. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and filling us up for such good value. See you again next year!
Visited for their Pie Sunday as a party of three. Firstly I have to say the value is absolutely incredible! I cannot think of anywhere one could get three courses of home made delicious food and a side for £22.50!
Secondly the food! Wow! The quality is absolutely stunning the pies with the mash were just out of this world! Would highly recommend!!
We were keen to try this place, but our visit to Leeds did not coincide with their vegetarian dates, however they were very helpful and arranged a vegetarian tasting menu for us. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was lovely and well considered. They even thought about the vegetarian cheese. BYOB made it a very affordable evening. We plan a return visit in January when we are in town again.
Completely different dining experience to anything I've had before, the little sharing plates combined different and unusual flavours which worked perfectly. We ended up asking the staff 'so how did you manage to make that?!' eg cured carrot which tasted like smoked salmon?! The meal was lovely, as were the cheeses we finished the meal with. Staff were absolutely lovely, so welcoming and friendly and open to discussing all the food with us, and gave us tips on where to get the best house plants in Leeds after we admired their display. Would recommend to all, and I can't wait to go back. Thank you!
'Fine dining' without the pretense. Took the hubby as a birthday 'treat' because I've wanted to go for a while. I was worried he wouldn't enjoy it, as he doesn't like his food fussed with. He wasn't disappointed!!
Each dish was well thought through and every single thing tasty - round of applause for the chef(s). The service was faultless - Jo made us feel very welcome and looked after. What a lovely evening at a much more reasonable price than other tasting menus. £71 for the tasting menu, bread and the muscles special (+ £5 corkage which is very reasonable and allows you to spend on the extra dishes). The decor is stripped back and simple - much to my taste.
Our faves were the muscles special and the chickpea, coriander and pomegranate.
Thanks Jo & Team!
Found this place based on TripAdvisor recommendations. Glad I did; they weren't wrong. Went last night (Saturday) for dinner after an afternoon at the Playhouse theatre. The whole evening was brilliant: Very laid back atmosphere, the food is wonderful (whoever is the chef deserves a massive pat on the back; the care he must put into every course is staggering). Genuinely one of the nicest meals I've ever had. Front of house staff lovely too.
Quite a few positives - great quality bread (home baked sourdough), a couple of the dishes were v good, service is warm/attentive and BYO is a real bonus. But too many of the dishes were made from very low quality ingredients and therefore bland. Just really inconsistent, and although the basic price is cheap for a tasting menu in central Leeds (£50 for 2 people with free corkage is brilliant) you pay for all extras (e.g. bread) and the special dishes (charged extra) are definitely the better ones on the menu, meaning it ends up not quite being the bargain it may seem.
My partner and I visited for pie Sunday.
We are greedy pigs and have fear of missing out so ordered a pie each and one to share between us as well as all the sides and a dessert each. JAM ROLY POLY... who can resist a classic like that. The flavour within each of the pies was fantastic as well as the delicious sauce and gravies. The roast beetroot side isn't something we would normally opt for but I would have happily ate a massive bowl of that beetroot on it's own. Polenta fries for starter... never disappoint; I need the recipe for these!
Always greeted with a smile; Jo, Stu and Conor work extremely hard and the passion for great food comes across each time we visit.
Taste sensation and by far the best restaurant in Leeds (don't tell everyone though, we like it as it is).
Can't wait for our next visit!
