Nice place to go for Mother’s Day lunch, lamb shoulder was tender and excellent as was the Yorkshire pudding. Left feeling full and for the quality of food it was fairly good value, choice and included amount of sides good have been better. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming however the dessert portion was very much on the smaller side

The Broad Chare is a great pub for a drink or two. I went there with some friends who usually go there on Sundays. We went there on a Saturday evening and it was busy but still not too packed. I can definitely recommend having a drink here. The staff is super friendly and they have a great variety of beers and drinks.

Absolutely beautiful carvery. Had the lamb here, and it was absolutely perfect and cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely.

Really enjoyed the meal here. I like beer and the Goose IPA was well kept. The posters were a treat but I’d definitely have them again.
Service was fairly prompt, busy Christmas party period so can’t complain.
Food was delicious.
I feel like I had value for money.

Arrived at opening time. Friendly staff and a great outside sitting area. Only sorry we didn’t get a chance to try the food as bar snack menu looked very appetising.

Lunch time snack.
On Newcastles quayside.
Whilst walking with our dogs and exploring the city, we came across this delightful pub.
Got to be honest. We knew about it already but didn't know exactly where it was.
We were booked into a nearby restaurant for the evening and just fancied a little snack to keep us going til then.
They serve bar snacks downstairs and a main menu in the restaurant upstairs.
As we had our furry friends with us, we ordered a couple of snacks in the bar.
Scotch Egg £6.50
Monkfish cheeks with tartare sauce £6.50
They were absolutely delicious and filled a gap.
The main menu looked so tempting, but we resisted and will have to return for a proper visit.
As it says on the menu, proper pub, proper beer, proper food.

Delicious food in a authentic pub.
As a starter I had Haggis on toast" and as a main course "Smoked Haddock fishcakes"
The atmosphere and the service were very good and the staff was very friendly
I really enjoyed it

We shared a t-bone steak. Delicious. Came with sides and very accommodating with substitutions. Everything served was really high quality and the service was also very good. On the pricey side. But I think this represents the phrase "you get what you pay for." Great place to stop for a pint on a sunny day or on a bar crawl of the Quayside.

A wonderful Sunday lunch option.
It's worth the hype, and you should book (weeks) in advance if you're a larger group.
Staff were friendly and considerate of the one year old we had with us.
Food was amazing as expected. Of the light bites, the scotch egg and curried cauliflower specially stood out in particular. Of the main dishes they were all great. I'm looking forward to having something other than a Sunday roast next time I'm there.
Not a cheap option but worth a visit for a special occasion.

The food was excellent, my grouse was cooked to perfection but I have to say my starter was beautiful.
The drop of one star was for not having the wine we wanted from the menu.
Service was very friendly though a little shaky but I put that down to possibly being some new staff members.

When it came to choosing where to eat in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne I decided upon The Broad Chare. Mostly for the name, and also because the menu looked perfect. They offer a traditional pub downstairs with plenty of ales on tap. There is generous seating in the bar and snug so you can enjoy a snacks while you have a drink or two. If you are looking for a quieter place to eat then head upstairs to the dining room. Mark, David and I sat down in the bar to have a drink before our meal. Dave had a Goose Honkers Ale, I had a Dog Dancer Cider and Mark had a Heidi Weisser.

This place was the highlight of my time spent in Newcastle. I loved it so much that I went back a second time. Great beer selection, with bottles from all around the world. The staff was friendly and very engaging. An absolute must-visit for any beer lover!

Pub food embodies the best and worst of British cooking. While some are frozen in the 1980s with their scampi and chips – don’t dare invite me to review one of these – and others have been chintzed into gastropubs, which are not good enough to be called restaurants, of late there’s been a resurgence in places with traditional ales and simple, reliable fare. Real beer and real food: that’s what every pub should offer. If you find one in your area, tell me: I’ll be the secret stranger in the corner. In my opinion the best pub food in the North East can still be found in The Broad Chare, on Newcastle’s Quayside. The genius Terry Laybourne set this up a few years ago as a joint venture with Live Theatre and I’ve been waiting for the novelty and quality to wear off. Yet every time I vis

Unfortunately things went steadily downhill from there on. I plumped for the burger as I had it on excellent authority that The Broad Chare's was up there with those available in Lahndon Tahn. Encouragingly, it was offered cooked pink. Hurrah. Discouragingly, when it arrived it was cooked through. Boo.

I opted to eat in the downstairs bar and ordered a couple of the ‘Geordie Tapas’ – Crispy Pigs' Ears (£2.80) and Deep-fried Monkfish Cheeks (£3.50). The ears were delightfully crispy and well seasoned; the perfect pub finger food. I’d love to go back and try the entire bar snack menu, which looked right up my alley.
