Stopped in Norwich on the way to our holiday destination. Stumbled across this place while looking for a different vegan eatery. Had a wonderful vegan menu. My son and I shared the pie and the burger between us, while my partner adapted the tartiflette to make it gluten free with the very helpful and friendly staff. All their beer is vegan too, so treated myself to the Kwak. We finished with desserts of the tiramisu, a milkshake for the boy and the chocolate brownie for me. All delicious and pretty reasonable with two of the mains being on an early bird menu at nearly half the price! Highly recommended!

Great food, very extensive menu ( including vegetarian/vegan ) and a HUGE selection of beers!! I'm not a beer drinker but can recommend the Raspberry beer.....it went down a treat! Busy, vibrant atmosphere. Advise booking at busy times.

Now this is a place for beer lovers. Prepare to sit down and be adventurous as they have an entire menu of awesome rare beers you won't really find that easily.

I opted for a blackcurrant flavoured beer that was very refreshing and tasted like a snakebite. It wasn't very strong but it was perfect for sitting out in the sun and cooling down.

I definitely recommend this place for its great beer selection and I wish I had managed to stay longer there to try more of them.

Great Belgian brews and food. Have been to the Belgian Monk twice now and left impressed after both visits. I am admittedly a huge mussels + frites fan, so it has been difficult from me to venture past the huge selection of tasty bivalves. My favorite (so far) are the Hot and Spicy. The fish and chips is also quite nice and a definite upgrade from the usual pub variety. The service has always been good as well.

The only complaint I can bring is that it's a bit expensive for this kind of fare. The portions are large, however, and as stated above, the food very good.

Having heard about a great selection of beers in Norwich, I had to give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. The name gives it away - a massive selection of Belgian beers. Well over 30 different drafts and bottles on offer, all neatly organized and listed on the wall by price, style and alcohol-by-volume for easy ordering. I had also checked their website, so I knew that they also had a decent food menu, with a rather large and strange section focused on mussels. My friend and I arrived in the peak of the dinner hour. Most of the tables had reserved signs on them, but we were able to find one that was still open. Standard UK ordering system - pay and order at the bar, your food will be brought to your table. They have a two-for-ten deal with a six or so meals. My friend and I both went with the mussels and fries special. The mussels arrived in a large stock pot with about 20+ mussels in a heavenly cream and onion stock. Very delicious. The fries were a little soggy, but they were hot and good, served with a small pot of mayo. Other sauces were available, but instead I tossed them into the soup to soak up the stock, then fished them out with the mussel fork. :-) Hard to choose which ones, but we enjoyed three delicious Belgian beers. Starting with a weissbier, then a blond and for me, ending up with a pilsner. All were excellent selections, but the weiss was definitely my favorite. Draft beers are only served in half pint glasses, bottles are 300 or 330ml depending. Tip: Book ahead.

Nice one! I like the yard and the food there. I'd love to go there again when I'm in Norwich.

I wanted to pan this place. Oh God I so wanted to drip sarcasm and vitriol upon it. I mean I hate Belgian beer, can't stand the Oz Clarke beer crowd and loathe pretentious menus. Sod! This place is pretty bloody OK. It has all of the above (plus Jean Michelle Jarre playing) but, even with a cold that prevents me from tasting vindaloo, I can smell every bottle of beer that is being poured. The staff really seem to care, and the place is lovely and cozy. I'll take this over an Irish bar in Brugges any day of the week.

Great deals if you dine at a certain time. Their Dubbel deal is two courses for just under ten pounds. It's a limited menu but if you're after a bargain then it's worth the limitation. They have a great sausage and mash with a veggie option available. The cherry beer is the best I've ever tried. They also offer a selection of tipples in a wooden rack if you are feeling like a change or in the mood for experimentation. There's a small court yard with heaters if you prefer an alfresco meal. The decor is brill with faux book pannels that I've seen people try and take off the shelf. There's a larger area upstairs which can become available if things are busy in the main down stairs. The muscles are delicious when in season.

Had a few good night here. Always friendly staff behind the bar and they know how to serve a good pint. Funny, how all the best nights are spontaneous!!

A nice place for food. If you go between 5pm and 7pm they have special deals, from a limited menu, which offers good value. Apparently this is an amazing place for mussels, but as I'm not a fan I can't comment! A large selection of beers I'm always tempted by fruit beer! They also recommend which one to have with which meal.

The Belgian Monk has a friendly feel to it. The area around the bar is a little cramped, but there is plenty of space in the beer garden. As the name implies they serve a number of Belgian beers. I recommend giving the fruit beers a try, but realize that they don't all taste the same. If you are in a group, order different flavors and have a taste of each. I've been here a couple of times. This last time was in a fairly large group as part of a pub crawl. I think it worked well as a relaxed place to try a type of beer you don't find in most pubs. However, if it had been more crowded when we arrived or the beer garden had been closed to bad weather, the stop might not have been as successful, so plan accordingly.

The Belgian Monk is a great place to go for food, with pretty expansive menu. Lovely mussels as you'd expect. But the beer really is the prime reason for making a visit. They have an enormous range of different types of Belgian beer, ranging from the standard alcohol, slightly tiddled variety to the full blown, only served in half pints because it'll send you screwy. Most times the taste won't give it away either, so it's never long before you're stumbling out into Pottergate wondering what just happened. They do a great beer taster rack, a tipple of several types. That alone is enough to get a good night going

lovely food - especially if you like chips with mayo. Apparently it's well known for it's mussels but I'm not a fan of sea food so can't comment on them - personally I like the Croque Hawaian, and the Asparagus tart. They have a great special offer during the week to save you some cash and get you tasty food. They also have a massive selection of beers (and recommend different ones to go with different meals). The deserts are stunning - I'd recommend the chocolate selection (I have a sweet tooth). I've been there for lunch a few times now and would say it's is one of the best places in Norwich.

A nice little spot service some great food and drink with an amazing atmosphere. The Belgian Monk is a great spot if you want to have a nice pint in the outdoor beer garden in the summer, or if you want to chill out and have some amazing Belgian cuisine. Food is great and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommend.

Epic little Belgian bar with classic food and a beautiful beer list. Close to the northern hotels and the canal. Great garden at the back. Booking is advised as we’ve seen loads of folks turned away looking for larger tables. Tip: Get the Tartiflette and add the spicy sausages on top. (Lacking ham in our portion - totally fixed it)

Such an amazing pub! I loved the style. Food was delicious and finally something different than in most of pubs. Waffle for dessert - no words. It was mastership. Staff was so nice and the prices affordable!

Return visit after many years and worth seeking out. A book of beers is presented at table and a good well cooked food offering. Staff know their stuff and are good at steering the uninitiated to a good choice. Had the Petrus Red, a cherry beer matured in oak barrels and with a deep almost caramel flavour, draught Kriek was slightly more sharp, but partnered with food choice well. Fries are plentiful and stay hot in their special containers. Different sort of drinking place but in a good way.

Excellent selection of Belgian beer - managed to try a few I haven’t come across before! Friendly staff too who are happy to help you decide which beer to go for. Also had a meal here - we meant to have mussels but unfortunately they ran out by the time we went, so ordered something else instead (pie).

It was to my surprise to find out a belgian beer garden with plenty dishes to accompany the thrist. Good selection of belgian beers, from blanche, cuvee to trappist. A reasonable range of food: from fried potato with mussles to roasted meat. This restaurant is located in an older part of Norwich, between the medieval lanes that once formed the city’s core, on a two staired renovated 17th century house. Worth to visit and enjoy the drink & food.

Nice place especially if you like Belgian beers, they serve a Kriek in a traditional glass and a number of fruit beers, Petrus Nitro Cherry Chocolate at 8.5% being the pick. Food is very good with a traditional Belgian line up - soups, meatballs, stews, schnitzel and Tartiflette... One of those places that you'll love or hate - but definitely worth a visit. Suggest you book early as it fills up quickly.
