What a lovely experience we had today at the Mermaids slipper. The place is so lovely, big comfortable sofas to sit in when you arrive for a pre-lunch drink as you peruse the menu. You're then shown to your seat in the tastefully decorated restaurant to a table resplendent with tablecloths, gleaming glasses and good cutlery. The starters soon followed. The charming owner and front of house is very welcoming, warm and friendly. Extremely welcoming, comfortable.
The food was exceptional. We had all starters, followed by-
2 x Roast sirloin with great Yorkshire puddings and roadt potatoes and beautifully cooked vegetables,
1 x Lamb Shank with mashed potato a mint gravy and those perfectly cooked vegetables.
The vegetables are served on individual dishes.
Pudding, only 2 of us could manage a pudding, the portions of each course are a very good size.
1 x Hazelnut chocolate mousse with a lovely amaretti ice cream.
1 x Pot of hot black cherries with another pot of vanilla ice cream.
Would I go back? Yes, and very soon!
Sorry, no pictures of the starters I forgot! But they were also delicious.
Superb meal here at this lovely. Restaurant. I was part of a party of 7 (quite discerning!) diners for a Sunday lunch. We were all blown away with the quality of the food. Wine list also extensive. Staff very proficient and friendly too. To cap it off this restaurant runs as a not for profit business with any profits going to a charity project in Tanzania. Very, very impressed all round.
First time visit when seeing the parents. Really good local produce, restaurant was nice and relaxing and interesting wine list
Absolutely stunning place, idyllic atmosphere, very attentive staff. Sarah our waitress was extremely professional and friendly, providing a knowledgeable service with attention to detail.
The food was amazing and the portions sizes were perfectly measured. The menu provided a good variety of choice and the flexibility of alternatives and catering for any food allergies was superb.
We had a wonderful dining experience and will highly recommend to others.
We will be visiting again very soon!
Very nice location in a quiet part of Stalham Staithe. Beautifully kept restaurant with chic interior. You are very warmly welcomed as an old friend with courteous and polite smiley staff. Choosing your meal in the lounge part over your first drink means that you are called to your table as your first course is ready. Wonderful food, very well presented, could not fault it at all. Service was effecient and discreet and nothing was too much trouble. The staff have been very well trained. Level access means it is an easy place for those with mobility needs to be able to enjoy the food a d atmosphere here. It is quite expensive, but when there are no faults and the food so good it is worth the cost. We'll recommended for a quiet meal.
Fantastic dining experience in an intimate setting. Julian and his team are attentive and eager to make sure you enjoy a first class evening. The menu was robust and the meals were cooked to perfection. Highly recommend a real gem.
Fine dining experience at an affordable price and still with a friendly atmosphere. Yes there is a bit of procedure, including choosing from a menu whilst in a waiting area, but food is great and staff are friendly and well mannered. The head chef came to ask every table how their meal was. Can't remember the last time I had that. Food is spot on, lamb shank was the business and I finished my meal feeling full.
We had a superb evening at this restaurant on two occasions. We liked our dinner so much on the first evening we returned the next. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. They have a very respectful way of treating customers. One of the reviewers here complains about having to sit and read the menu prior to entering the dining room. This used to be the way things were done and I’m very pleased we were able to experience this at the mermaid’s slipper. Another reviewer may have difficulty recognising that this restaurant is both contemporary and old school. That is a delight to find in this modern age where everyone seems to want to feel as if they’re in Hollywood.
Excellent 'posh' fish and chips. We phoned up and left a message which was returned quickly. We pre-ordered our food and it was brought out on time. We enjoyed our excellent fish and chips in their garden by the marina. The monkfish was delicious and was served with lovely pickled vegetables. The salmon and bread was also lovely. Our kids enjoyed their posh fish finger sandwiches too. Would definitely recommend.
Nice place to eat and a lovely venue, clean and bright. The service is spot on and very very attentive to detail. Only open at the latter part of the week and I would say essential to ring and check first. The menu is perhaps from the 70's /80's but great food, could not fault it. I would say £££ , not cheap but not outrageous either. I would definitely return.
