What a fantastic surprise to find a Gluten Free Fish and Chip shop in Plymouth. Been on holiday and not been able to find anywhere to have a meal that was gluten free. This was the first time I had eaten battered fish in a long time and I can assure you this was worth the wait. Beautiful tasting golden batter, to die for. Wished a few more places would do that. Thank you so much for putting the finishing touches to a great holiday.
Normally eat in Harbourside but the queue was massive tonight so popped down to the new gluten free chip shop as less of a queue, what can I say but WOW. Well worth the trip from plympton
I chose Harbourside Fish and Chips for a takeaway meal while on a brief visit to Plymouth. It advertises the fact that it was voted 3rd best fish and chip shop in 2018 but nothing more recent.
The counter area was bright, welcoming, clean and tidy. I did not visit the upstairs dine in area.
There was a range of food options including chips, fish, sausages, chicken strips, burgers and kid's meal.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our food was cooked to order so it was fresh and hot.
The food was very tasty and simply delicious.
The only issue I had was the cost. We ordered 1 fish, 2 chips, 2 sausages, 2 fruit shoot bottles and some chicken strips and it cost more than £30. Apparently dining in costs a bit more. Nevertheless I would recommend this restaurant.
We were wandering around the shops and stumbled across this place. It seems to be a busy place. We decided to order take away but wound up sitting at a table on the sidewalk. The fish and chips were really good! It took maybe 10 minutes to get our order but it’s worth it. Great location to people watch 🙂
We stopped here on a whim while strolling through the area. We were seated upstairs, and had a great view out onto the street and docks. My wife had the cod, mini fish and chips and though I ordered the haddock mini fish and chips I was in advertently brought the full-size one. Sometimes mistakes happen during ordering. So it was a few dollars more, I didn’t mind because the fish was absolutely delicious. For us the true test of good fish and chips is partially if it’s still crispy at the last bite. This one absolutely was. The serving of mushy peas was huge, and my wife and I probably could’ve split one.
Henry, our way to it was a delight. Some locals that have been coming there for years struck up a conversation with us from the next table, and we had a delightful conversation to go along with our meal.
If you’re looking for fish and chips in the area, this one is a winner!
Lovely fish and chips although I would have expected fresh fish not frozen fish given the location. Peas were very dry, more a case of 1 slice or 2 instead of spoonfuls! Waitress pleasant and attentive
I was in town for work, and my colleague and I headed to the Barbican as I knew there were plenty of places to eat. We walked the streets and selected the Harbourside because of the sign in the window that they had won 3rd place in a national award for their Fish&Chips.
We quickly came to realise why. We were greeted in a friendly manner and informed that there was seating upstairs as well as the takeaway. We opted for this as it was raining heavily.
The waitress on duty was friendly and helpful, I selected the regular Haddock with chips and gravy along with tartar sauce. Even the sauce was great! The chips were lovely, and there were plenty of them. The fish was beautiful, a nice light but crispy batter and a decent portion for me without being too much.
Whenever I am in Plymouth again, I shall definitely be coming back, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve in this year's awards.
Late lunchtime treat 3 portions of battered sausage with cheesey chips and 1 portion of chips with curry sauce..... freshly cooked ,generous portions great value for money. Friendly staff too.
Absolutely loved this place! Chips were just right not overly crispy and fluffy inside, fish batter was perfect, light crispy and not too thick. Give their onion rings a try too, made by them with the same batter as the fish. Curry sauce was made how it should be, fruity and not spicy. Probably the best we have had for a long time and will visit again next time we are in Plymouth.
Fresh fish and chips on the Barbican, a few tables outside to eat at or inside upstairs. Don't be surprised to wait a few minutes to get you meal orders for take aways, but they're pretty quick and the food is worth the wait. Enjoyed mine sitting near the Pilgrim steps and the Marina, perfect.
Best fish and chips in the world! Every trip to Plymouth it’s a must on multiple occasions. Both the Haddock and Cod are great choices.
Lovely food! The menu needs updating as some things aren't available (milkshakes) but the fish and chips are great!
