We've been coming to the Cross Scythes for years - it's a great pub either for a casual catch up over wine or for a full blown meal. The menu changes fairly often and has gotten a bit expensive as of late compared to the rest of its Sheffield counterparts, but it's a good occasion venue where you want to splash out a little more.
Would very much recommend the Sunday roast and you NEED to follow it up with a dessert. Yum.
We had a kids party here and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was divine, and the space allocated was great.
Staff were so accommodating and overall just a fab atmosphere. Thank you
Nestled on the fringe of Sheffield this is well placed to visit the Derbyshire Dales, Peak District in addition to what Sheffield can offer
Recently refurbished it has ample parking, garden area and a handful of smart bedrooms. Everywhere was spotless.
Plenty of selection to chose from on the lunch and evening menus. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly prepared though set up was a bit behind time for a start of 7.30am.
Staff attentive and welcoming.
Had a nice time here after the beautiful refurb - I'd like to hear some music on not just sport whilst eating, but that's a personal preference :-)
The food was a little odd in my book; I will be back to try because it seems very good... its funny but the flavours were just odd choices. For instance I had the rosemary chicken burger and it had no flavour of rosemary. The sauce was meant to be lemon, but it was mayo. Then for afters I ordered this incredible looking rum treacle sponge, but it tasted of cumin! It was like an Indian and UK fusion of a classic. It was just a little kookey yet that was not the description on the menu at all. It all looks very classic and well thought out on the menu.
There was a little issue at the till as I was over charged for puddings but it appeared the menu saying add a pudding on for £3, was meaning you have to pay for it in advance. So note that if you want to try.
Overall I can see how lovely it should be, hehe, so will be back when it's a bit more bedded in so to speak and try it again then! P.s. I love my food but am pretty down to earth, just so you can compare what you might think or feel!
Brilliant staff, great food, we all really enjoyed our roast.
Party of 9 for lunch today, excellent food. Jordan dealt with our order patiently and professionally. Will definitely return.
We called in for lunch and found the pub to be very welcoming and friendly, we had the beef pie with chunky chips and veg it was well cooked and came with an extra pot of thick gravy, the service was excellent, there was a good choice of beer and lager including ale from the local Abbeydale brewery this is a dog friendly pub giving a lovely all round atmosphere we will be going back as we live fairly locally
The food was quite nice. We all had pie. I had fish pie. There was plenty of seafood inside. The veg were cooked nicely too.
Very pleasant well appointed room comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast
Very nice pub/restaurant with rooms. Thoroughly enjoyed my fishcake and salad. Car park.
Had a good meal the evening before my daughter's wedding. Very friendly place. Groomsmen stayed the night.
