Enjoyed a nice meal at Gilpin Spice.
The mains all tasted great. The menu had plenty of variety and interesting vegetarian options. The coconut and pineapple dessert was absolutely the star of the meal and is highly recommended.
The various rooms were beautifully decorated, however it seemed like the main room near the kitchen was bustling and getting a more attentive service.
We ate at Gilpin Spice as part of our minimoon. It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, beautifully decorated and with great service. The staff knew a lot about the menu and were able to offer good advice. The food was amazing. Very flavourful. I was a bit unsure before I went as I'm not a huge fan of spicy food, but it wasn't a problem. There's something for everyone, whether you like it mild or hot. The small plates menu meant you were able to have a good sized portion without feeling stuffed. I would definitely go back.
Absolutely amazing food & service! Some of the best food weve ever tasted! Highly recommend all of the fish & seafood dishes, ginger pudding and pineapple & coconut dessert too! Been at least 5 times now and will always return every time we are visiting the lakes! Just wow! Love the chefs table for the sheer theatre and ability to chat to the chefs as they work their magic! Thanks to the amazing team!
Delightful afternoon lunch with friends.
Service was top notch as you would expect although there was no one to greet us on arrival so we stood around in the entrance for a while. That aside, we were made to feel welcome once seated and looked after very well.
Enjoyed a good selection of dishes which were all prepared in front of us from the open kitchen which was spotless.
Portions were reasonable with my slow cooked beef main course possibly having too much beef. It was beautifully cooked and fell apart but I felt it was a little dry and with such an intense flavour there was poss a little too much of it. Either that or it needed more sauce? The soup was superb as were the little teeny tiny chicken satay sticks which were served with a sublime peanut sauce.
As you would expect all the dishes had a great balance of flavours & textures and the presentation was excellent throughout.
Prices were pretty fair given the location, the environment, staffing costs and the quality of the ingredients.
Would definitely recommend a visit.
We're having the most wonderful holiday at the Gilpin Windermere. Everything is absolutely perfect. The staff are outstanding, the accommodation perfect and the food is divine. Thank you Gilpin Windermere, we'll be back xx
Food, amazing. Atmosphere up-there, service with a smile and that is all you can ask for, especially Carlo. Cheers for a great night 👍
Absolutely delicious food, excellent service and lovely atmosphere. Lunchtime menu with small selection of dishes. Wine options good with quality house wines
Fantastic food and fantastic service.
The greeter stood by the entrance was very friendly and helpful he pointed us in the direction of a few animals they keep on the grounds after our meal was a great end to a fantastic experience at the Gilpin Spice. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Absolutely delicious. Splitting about seven dishes with two being mains worked well. The puddings are dense and very rich so save room as they're also incredible!!
STUNNING dinner, right at the chef's table. Cannot recommend enough. I had an early seating at 6pm on a Monday when the restaurant was full, but not at capacity. This meant the cooks were able to take a bit of time to personally explain each dish, provide their recommendations, and have a bit of banter. The service was exceptional- every server was so friendly and attentive. Whilst all of the food was incredible, the tomato soup, paneer, and ginger pudding almost made my brain stop the moment I tasted them. Be cautious with the drive to and from the restaurant if you're driving in the dark and rain though, the roads aren't very good nearby. Overall amazing experience, so glad I went.
