A true gem in the jewellery quarter! Stunning British food with a twist, presented absolutely beautifully. The asparagus dish was one of the best pieces of cookery I have tasted in a very long time. The sticky toffee pudding with asparagus (!) caramel (who knew?!) wasn't far behind either. Whilst most dishes read as if they would be challenging to the palette in fact every dish was a perfectly constructed little taste explosion! Service was friendly, knowledgeable and unpretentious with staff seemingly encouraged to offer little extras to make the evening even more special. My only slight gripe is that the wine list, whilst very extensive, list was a little over-priced.

Not been for 5 years, but had an excellent meal last night. Only did the smaller menu, but thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Really excellent quality, flavours and little surprises. Some may not like the heavy music and darker atmosphere, but i loved it. Will definitely be back sooner this time. A great restaurant and superior to some of Birmingham’s supposedly more superior kitchens. Go!

I absolutely love this place! 5th time now, and if you're getting bored of me saying how good it is, that's because you've never been. Unbelievable food from a fabulous restaurant that knows exactly what I want. Brilliant. Again.

The Vendor name that will show on your credit card statement after visiting The Wilderness is ANOTHER BAD IDEA. Whilst you might think that when you get your next statement and have to pay for it, hopefully the memory of the food and the experience overrides that. Down an alleyway in the JQ, The Wilderness wants to be different to the other Michelin/tasting menu gaffs in Birmingham. And I think they get it spot on. The pop up that they had years ago near New Street was, from memory, a bit more ingredients focused (there was a pudding with ants on it) and had a tree in it. This place is dark walls, dark furniture, guitar music, but I think the food is even better. Every dish on Tasting Menu 2 (there are three in total) was incredible including beetroot ice cream, pig cheeks, mackerel, pigeon. Service was great, wine was a mix of stuff from £40 to a thousand (luckily I didn't succumb to that bad idea), and the whole night was fabulous for our 10th wedding anniversary. Loved it.

We'd booked to go to The Wilderness a while ago but unfortunately COVID came along and ruined our original plans. We finally visited for lunch on Saturday and it's fair to say it was worth the wait. We decided to go for the ten course tasting with a couple of glasses each of the 'hacked' wines. Upon taking our seats we were each given a complimentary glass of Prosecco and water and our meal began. The mix of courses were fantastic; starting with crispy pig cheek with an apricot gel and taking in steak tartare, turbot and mackerel along the way. Highlights were a fantastic beetroot ice-cream served with a rich ajoblanco and a tremendous mushroom and 'bread pudding' dish which was like the best version of mushrooms on toast you could possibly imagine. Service was slick throughout, each course was delicious and the wines were great, particularly the Chardonnay 2.0 and the Vermouth. The meal wasn't the cheapest but the food, service, ambience and music made it all well worthwhile.

Wow!! Outstanding food, superb attentive service, and an awesome atmosphere (with quality rock music playlist that you can find on spotify). With the news this week that carters will be leaving Birmingham, we are delighted to finally get to try this place, that is the heir apparant to it. Already booking our next visit. Expensive, but totally worth it.

This small restaurant in Birmingham is spectacular. The tasting menu was outstanding with no uninspired dishes. Delightfully prepared and elegantly served with a smile. The background music was not obtrusive, though personally I would have been happy either way, as it was exactly what I liked. Wholly 100% recommend...

Easily one of the best tasting menus I have ever tried. The portions, although small, unlocked flavours I didn’t know existed. Worth the slightly more expensive cost for sure. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff, and the atmosphere is a real vibe. Would highly recommend, particularly for special occasions.

An unforgettable dining experience. One of the very best I have ever had. The food and service was exceptional. The big Mac starter was simply delicious and full of flavour. Essentially a steak tartare and one of the very best I've had outside of France. The rest of the tasting menu was equally delicious and innovative. Possibly the best dining experience in Birmingham.
