This is a personal fave restaurant of ours, everything is perfect from the food to the service and almost the music! Each course is delicious. They make me enjoy things I won’t normally eat ( mackerel taco). A fine dining menu, the milk and cookies with that underlying flavour was superb(won’t spoil it for you) . In this uncertain time I hope the wilderness can continue and thrive in their new Venue back in the city center. I have a table booked for our WA at end of April and really hope we can go. I know alex will do his best by staff and customers, I myself work in hospitality and hope we can all weather this horrible storm

This is a personal favourite, excellent tasting menu at reasonable cost, superb courses such as Mackerel Taco are excellent, Michelin quality

We’ve been intending to try this restaurant for sometime and finally we have, so wish we’d done this sooner! Superb food, unpretentious, relaxed with a great vibe. Will definitely go back when they’re in the new premises in central Birmingham, loved it 😋👏🙌

Great atmosphere, lovely food unique tastes, portion size small but was a tasting menu. Food got better with each course.

Excellent food. Great potential. Good points are that the chefs certainly know what they are doing. The Monkfish, Lamb and the Big Mac are well worth the visit. They do some delicious desserts and the chocolate skulls were a real highlight. I believe that sometimes they sell these for special occasions so I will certainly be investing in them at some point as they were absolutely perfect. The music was great, and the open kitchen allows guests to see what's happening which is another bonus as it makes the environment really relaxed. A lot like Harborne Kitchen. Unfortunately for us the experience wasn't quite what we expected. I had booked this for a weekday at 7.30pm so expected to be offered the £100 menu. The website clearly states the following: "Dinner menus are offered from £75 or £100 midweek, if your reservation is at 6pm you will only be offered the £75 menu". With this in mind I scoured the booking pages for ages searching a day when both of us were off work in the evening to ensure we had the larger menu offered and booked for 7.30. On arrival we were offered a glass of prosecco each to celebrate a birthday. Nice touch. Very thoughtful and appreciated. We were taken to our seat then offered a £65 menu. Something I had not seen on their website. Nevertheless the menu was lovely. I asked the waitress why the £100 menu was not offered as I had booked and paid a £60 deposit for that menu. The waitress simply said it was only "this" menu tonight, and when pressed about it she finally said that three of the ovens weren't working so the whole menu could not be offered. Now this, I don't mind. Things happen. However, this restaurant is Michelin guide recommended. Therefore it would be expected some form of communication about this would have been offered. Unfortunately the staff at the Wilderness did not do this and as such we were left questioning what had happened. I even thought I had booked it wrong but in checking so I hadn't. It felt as if the staff hoped we wouldn't notice. But looking around the room at other guests there were quite a few confused faces. They are currently in the process of moving restaurant locations so there was an underlying feeling that perhaps the broken ovens had actually been moved out. The general decor was OK. The velvet curtains added a sense of warmth the seating area. However other things have become rather drab and worn. There is paint missing from the walls where it had been chipped off and the ladies toilets were below par. The seat was on at an angle and the door lock was hanging off the door and the floor was raised so it caught the bottom of the door when trying to shut it. It just didn't have that sense of a cared for restaurant. This may be put down to the fact they are moving locations but if they are still taking bookings then they should still be keeping the place up to scratch for the people who have never been before. All in all I would go again and would recommend the food. We just expected and wanted more of it. Perhaps the new venue will be far better. They might be experiencing teething problems with the move.

A superb journey through imaginative courses accompanied by rock. You will argue over your favourite course. Need I say more? Other than, I will return!

Reading some of the reviews here, dear god what is wrong with some? The type pf person to downgrade a hotel because their pillow was too thin! Went here with the wife on Thursday evening. Everything about it was top notch, greeting, setting, ambience, service, the lot. Cant say enough good about the time we had. Personal highlights for me were the duck and the lamb courses, I cant draw a line between the two. It is a fine dining experience for sure. Highly recommended. Well done to ALL of the staff and the Chef[s] MG.

We were unfortunate enough to come to the restaurant on New Years Eve two years ago where it was the first night of opening and they had no heating. Immediately on retuning home the restaurant contacted us and asked for our comments and offered a free meal as an apology for an unsatisfactory experience. We felt that this showed the managements commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction. Hence we took them up on the offer and revisited the restaurant yesterday. It was a completely different experience, the decor, the food, the staff- everything yo would expect from a fine dining establishment. They staff could not have been more hospitable and really went out of their way to ensure we had the best evening possible. Food was excellent and the innovative drinks pairing really helped make the night. Management and staff turned what was a negative experience into a 100% positive one. Well done for your outstanding customer service.

Quite simply this is probably the best place to dine in Birmingham. It is a different experience to some of the more pretentious high end eateries we have in the city but a welcome one. We had eaten previously whilst Masterchef winner Stu was in residence and the standard remains post him. All I can say is make this top of your list to book!

Fantastic! From the moment we walked the service was great. When we sat down each course came quickly and was explained and the drinks matched the food beautifully. The general atmosphere captures you and makes you feel relaxed even whilst listening to rock music. Top quality innovative food, presented impeccably and tastes amazing. This place is a hidden gem and doesn’t make you feel out of place or that you should behave differently, that you sometimes great in restaurants of this high quality. Highly recommended.

A true experience. Unstuffy fine dining, the first course was just brilliant, every one that followed even better. The saag donut is my new favourite, Everyday ingredients becoming superstars - the humble cornflake, rhubarb, taco. In advance we were asked about allergies, these were respected and discussed when we arrived. From the restaurant you can see the kitchen, here is a team that truly works together from front of house to the dedicated pot washer. Every member of staff knowledgeable and approachable, everyone was busy yet as customers we were made to feel special. The level of attention, just right. The wine list is good and I have to disagree with other reviews, there is a good selection of bubbles. The sommelier is really knowledgeable and I was able to choose a smaller number of wines than committing to the wine flight but not restricted by having to choose a bottle. The music is loud, it was my kind of music, so I loved it.

FANTASTIC experience. The place, the food and most important the staff - very attentive, knowledgeable, approachable and again most important to us, down to earth. Everything exceeded my expectations. Don’t go if you’re expecting glitz, glamour and posh atmosphere though. It was still very nice but as it says on the website, Rick n roll n relaxed, but with first class service and food. Would highly recommend. If I had to give a negative point it would be the ladies toilets - little bit shabby n couldn’t close the one door very easily n loo seats on the slant. Otherwise - FANTASTIC💕

When in Birmingham we’ve walked past the Wilderness in the jewelry quarter many times but never remembered to book far enough ahead....finally we did... And it exceeded expectations, not stuffy, just excellent food, great wine pairings and wonderful service. The 7 course tasting menu was great fun in both flavors and textures. I thought lamb would be my favourite, but instead the duck blew it away...we found every course good, the art and craft of the kitchen shone through. And I was very happy with the wine flight, interesting wines, presented well. The calmness of the kitchen impressed, very smooth and perfect timing, almost made it look easy (!) and the soundscape that the Wilderness is also known for was not at all intrusive, could have been a bit louder if anything.... I think the Wilderness is soon to move to central Birmingham, I’m glad we experienced in its Jewelry home. We thoroughly enjoyed our time as guests of the Wilderness team, all very warm and professional. Thank you to Alex Claridge and everyone for creating a food experience to remember with pleasure.

Small, cosy, warm environment for a family celebration somewhere we hadn't been before but were recommended to. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and provided with a complimentary glass of fizz. When we sat at our table we were then introduced to some of the best food we have ever tasted and the whole night was, simply, outstanding. Loubie, Alex and the Wilderness team are just FAB... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Our most favourite restaurant, amazing atmosphere, fantastic food, stellar soundtrack and an incredible team of chefs and front of house hosts. There's something about the place that just instills a wonderful feeling of peace and relaxation to a rock music soundtrack. I haven't done it justice with my words, you absolutely must go if you possibly can.

I love this restaurant, hence the reason I keep returning. The service is outstanding, staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, they genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. I always have the tasting menu and throughly enjoy food I didn’t even know I liked. Pure genius. Love the way the menu keeps evolving and the playlist is so good. Thank you.

First visit here as a gift to my vegetarian husband from Christmas, I was a little apprehensive however there was absolutely no need as his dishes were as amazing as my meat and fish courses. He said it was the best vegetarian food he’d ever had and that covers nearly 30 years! We had the lunch sittting with wine / drinks pairings which was a good move and all very reasonably priced I feel. All dishes were served with explanations of what was on the plate and likewise the drinks, menu is set and all details are on their website. Dishes were all seved by the most delightful staff who clearly work very hard to make the customers visit the best possible experience. We particularly liked the staff member who was in change of the bar and served our drinks very friendly with a great sense of humour. The venue itself was unshowy and as some people described ‘quirky’ so it was right up our street! The rock music score was brilliant everything from The Stones (Rolling and Roses) to Fleetwood Mac and provided some discussion throughout our meal between me and my other half. What urged me to book here? It was brought to my attention by watching MasterChef and googling the chap who won (no longer works there) I’m so glad I did as otherwise would have missed this great little place and will definetly be back very soon.
