We visited the Sportsman on Saturday afternoon for both food and drinks.
The staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful. The standard of the food, both the carvery and other food items was very good indeed and the drinks were top quality too.
The pub/restaurant has a nice feel to it and we are already looking forward to returning this Saturday.
One of the best parts of the whole experience was the absolutely fantastic price, such amazing value for both food and drinks 👍
We ordered Traditional Carvery and I rate them 5 ⭐️. The beef; gammon and Turkey were freshly roasted. And unlimited vegetables to pair with! The only downside is that the restaurant/pub interior. Needs to be redecorated?! But otherwise, the service and the staff were great!

By using the 'Too Good To Go' mobile app where you collect a mystery bag from a shop, café or restaurant. They don't have to throw away or waste edible end-of-day fresh food or nearly end date groceries for 30 to 50% sticker price. Win, win, win.
Rather than a few of the days leftover pastries, a walk up leafy Tongdean Lane towards the wide asphalt car park of the Withdean Sports Complex also brings you to the doors of The Sportsman (geddit? all athletics and stuff) and what could possibly be the last remaining option in the city from the once several fondly remembered venues offering daily roast dinners as a Carvery.
Thick slabs of meat, roasties, all the different veggies, stuffing, gravy you can cut with a knife - even without pigs in blankets this dinner was bigger than the one I cooked for Christmas.
Warm, welcoming, and cheery, the twinkly lights shine across the car park offering refuge from the encroaching evenings darkness where the staff have real smiles that reach their eyes and the dinner plates aren't the size of Old Skool jammy Wagon Wheels. Nom nom nom nom nom.
I have visited The Sportsman twice the this week. Over the two nights Jonathan and Sean were great with Tasha working hard on both nights. Very welcoming to us and our 2 dogs. Great atmosphere - great food - will definitely visit again!!!!!

The food looked fresh and was topped up! There was everything we needed! We were welcomed in and my daughter even had a contest with the manager to who could suck a lime better and she won, it was very funny!
Great for both an individual and family lunch out. Good food and variety of options to choose from.

We booked a table for 9 people for my daughters birthday and we weren't disappointed. We were made to feel extremely welcome and every need eas catered for. The staff were great and food was really good. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we would definitely book again.
Only one word I can think of to describe this place where you can get delicious food, good value for money and watch the footie and not feel like an out of place loser and that word is gorg-tastic
We had a large party visit the Sportsman and we couldn't have been looked after any better.
The food was top-notch and plenty of it. And the team were very attentive.
