Great convivial atmosphere thanks to a welcoming staff who are mindful of customers' individual needs. I really enjoyed my custom order breakfast and was pleased that the staff anticipated my dietary restrictions. Places like this are worth more to a city than all the chain restaurants and coffee shops, and anyone who claims to value community should support them and also take a coffee to go.

Most friendly and welcoming cafe owner I’ve ever met. Amazing food, amazing value 😍. Myself and my boyfriend happened upon this place during our stay in Edinburgh and just had to go back every morning for breakfast! Both being veggies we wanted a good hearty breakfast just without the meat. Thistles just hit the spot perfectly. I would just ask the owner what I should have and he’d make me something amazing. The value for money was amazing ! (Especially for two broke students!) Not only did we have amazing food and great service. John the owner would even give us advice on where to visit during our stay, what to see, how to get there. Like our own local tour guide. Each morning we went back he’d come over ask how we were and what we got up to etc giving even more friendly advice on what to do. We even got a sneaky free taste of the yummy caramel brownie! 😍 It’s clear to see how this place had such amazing reviews ! Well worth the visit. We loved it so much Thank you to everyone in Thistles!
