Incredible food and such a reasonable price! The owners are very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was great, will be coming back soon! (Bottle of wine for £12🥹)

Gorgeous, melt in your mouth sushi. Food is cooked to perfection every time. Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in manchester.

This is going to be my favourite Japanese place in Manchester now. The food is AMAZING, staff is FANTASTIC, generous portions for good price.
I had chicken katsu curry which was fantastic. Then takoyaki (it's hard to find it so must try), veg tempura, edamame. My partner had chicken ramen and it came as huge portion, never seen so big ramen portions.
I'll definitely come back many times. We went on Wednesday night and it was very busy. Strongly recommend, thank you.
Edit: went again and once again the food was fantastic!

On arrival, we immediately were given a warm welcome from the sushi master and his staff! The food itself was good quality, fresh and made to order! Great atmosphere, such a hidden gem! 10/10, it wasn't our first visit and it certainly won't be our last!

Really nice restaurant, the food was delicious, well priced and also came in generous amounts.
The sushi was delicious, the donburi is tasty and one portion is very fulfilling if you're hungry.
Staff was friendly, took my family and they were very nice to everyone.

Favourite sushi spot in Manchester - sushi is such good value and always high quality & delicious. Hidden gem and have recommended it to all my friends looking for good sushi. Also the staff are incredibly polite and lovely, which makes the experience even better

On entering the establishment the aroma was so amazing I couldn’t wait to have the ramen broth as this was what we wanted to try and it really was as good as the reviews we read. The cheapest ramen broth we have ever had! It’s a quiet little place inside which makes it even better. Will definitely go back again 🫶🏾

The place was busy when we came so it took a while to get seated and then it took a while to get menus but we didn’t mind because they were rushed but when it calmed the service was great. The food was really nice and cooked right in front of you more or less and the staff came around and were attentive. I think for me the main allure of this restaurant was the decor and the authenticity. It was also a nice touch having the 16pc sushi served in a wooden boat. We look forward to going again 🍱👌🏼👌🏼

Amazing place, super friendly environment. Great value for money

Managed to get the one table outside in the sun. Ordered the sushi platter which was huge and pretty good value, and the glass of wine couldn't have been filled any higher. Seems like a small family run place with the father cooking and son serving, definitely heading back to try more of the menu

This has been one of the best Japanese dining experience, very authentic. Their mixed sushi platter was balanced and beautifully presented. Chicken gyozas were juicy and felt like we could eat it whole night. The surprise came in a package of Itame, very delicious sizzling hot platter of vegetables. Never tasted such delicious tofu!
The ambience of the place is very friendly and welcoming. The chef/owner makes sure you are having good time. Whenever I crave Japanese food in Manchester, I know where to go ☺️.

It is an authentic Japanese restaurant. The owners are such a sweet Japanese couple. The food is so tasty, absolutely top quality. The athmosphere and the presentation of the sushi ship is something you should definitely experience. Great prices as well, definitely worth a visit!

Amazing little family run business. Simply one of the best sushi in Greater Manchester. Don’t expect anything fancy, but food is divine!

It’s like a neighbourhood restaurant in Japan, but in Withington. The couple who run this place are just so nice, service is very friendly and everything we ate was delicious (we ordered A LOT). All at incredibly reasonable prices. Can’t recommend this place enough

Great value tiny Japanese cafe. 26 seats and owner + 1 staff doing everything from taking orders to cooking to washing up. Bento boxes at lunchtime £6-£7 amazing value. £6 chicken ramen soup wonderful as are gyoza dumplings

Such a quaint little restaurant. Food is very good, best sushi I’ve had in Manchester. The fried rice was also very good although slightly oily. I highly rate this place. They only take cash however but there is a cash point near by and although there isn’t a car park you can find a spot near by

Best option in for Asian food in Withington. Their hot food is good (albeit spicy so ask first), but the sushi is not the freshest so recommend sticking with the cooked menu. Cash only.

This place is a hidden gem.
Quality of food is fantastic and the sushi is always a must whenever visited. Only critique is that the opening time displayed for lunch is 12-3pm but most often opened 1pm. Definitely recommend.

Amazing little place with incredible food and warm service

Well worth it

Visiting our son in Manchester he took us for our first Japanese cuisine experience. The place wasn't busy so a table could be found. The food was enjoyable and surprisingly filling. Waiters were helpful in explaining some of the menu options. Variety is wide. One option is to have a number of the lovely starters almost as Japanese "tapas".

Just a point - they only accept cash (no cards), but that is advertised on the door so there's no mistake

We went for a quick bite to eat and ended up absolutely sozzled on their warm sake

I loved the sashimi boat - the fish was tasty and very fresh

They make sushi in front of your eyes and it's to die for - definitely recommend to visit

This is the Japanese restaurant to go to in Manchester. The food is authentic, as home made, with fair pricing and decor reminiscent of small, family run businesses in Japan. Highly recommend it.

Inside the place is essentially laid out like a normal take away but with tables inside. Good selection of sushi (including sashimi), very cheap. Good for a quick bite and the service was good. Wasn’t a particularly clean restaurant but all things considered I would go back because the food was decent and it’s hard to find good sushi

Food is nice, but the person answer the Phone, dont speak english, and when you order they talk in cinese without worry about you wait in the phone

Foods there can not be called Japanese food. Most of the dishes are not Japanese style. even the chief there is a CHINESE instead of Japanese. I went that place with my friend on 27th August. I have to say the owner did spend a lot of time on decorations to make the restaurant look like a Japanese one. I think they should spend more time on how to make food better rather than others. In Japan, people learn years to make sushi for customers. However, in kyotoya, they even allowed the waiter serving my table to make sushi to sell. it was unbelievable. The food appeared just like it had been thrown there with no sense.

apart from the food, the hygiene in that restaurant was also horrible. The food display was messy and dirty. The toilet in that restaurant was extremely dirty and it looked like it hadn't had a proper clean for months.

This is the worst restaurant I've never seen in my all life and I would never suggest to anyone to go there especially with young children.

MelbourneHeart. This place has incredible japanese food, despite being owned by what I'm guessing is a chinese/cantonese family, they pull off lovely japanese flavours with choice cut ingredients. One of my favourite places to eat in Withington.
Good Gobble
After our lovely starters we had pretty high expectations but our mains definitely exceeded them! I had ordered the Nabe Tofu and I was intrigued when they brought over a massive table mat for mine saying mine would be pretty hot. When my Nabe arrived I realised that this was because my meal was cooked in a "hot posh dish" which was like a clay pot with a lid which meant the pot and food inside were super dooper hot.
Manchester Foodies
I was pretty happy when it lived up to expectations. Talking cheap eats, you need to get the deal for 2 for £22. For £11 each, you share the following courses: miso soup, sushi, gyoza, chicken teryiaki and beef kimchi
Foodstotrybeforeyoudie
Manchester’s not particularly well known for its Japanese food, but with certain dishes, Kyotoya might just produce the best the city has to offer.
Oliver Thomas
Food from here is always great. Family run business cooking with passion!

Recommend salt and pepper ribs, tempura prawns and the gyoza.

Eat in or takeaway very authentic and very good.
