Overpriced and felt rushed to have my dinner
I went there last Saturday with a friend who was advised to try this restaurant. My friend made the reservation online one week in advance for a table at 6pm. It seems fine at first, but when we were asked twice for our drink/starter order within ten minutes I was not sure what to think. When we ordered drinks and food, the starters came quickly. Good I guess, but I felt rushed during the whole meal. We could see clients coming in and waiter/waitress looking at our table to see if we were finished or not. There was no particular attention from staff unless to check if we were done quickly enough for them. I finished my first drink and wasn’t offered if I would like to order another one, so I had another one, but rushed at the end to finish it.
For desserts, portions are small for £7. When the waitress arrived with the dessert, my friend was surprised by the way it looked and though it was not the right dessert. She asked the waitress who didn’t seem sure herself. Not what you expect in terms of service! We left after spending 2 hours there and no goodbye.
I do understand that Saturdays are probably the busiest day of the week for most restaurants and they try to take as much bookings as they can. From what my friend told me, on the booking system they inform you have a 2 hours slot for your meal. But still, it would be nice not to feel rushed within those 2 hours. Chilli Banana hasn’t offered an enjoyable experience and I felt I was just a money sign, eat my food as soon as possible and leave so table can be ready for the next one.
In general, food was OK but not the best Thai food I ever had. And I do think it is overpriced for what it is in terms of portion/service/experience.
Maybe we picked the wrong day or time, but I would not recommend this restaurant and will not come back.

I went to Chilli Banana with my family. There were 6 of us plus a toddler.
The place was inviting, the menu was good (we ate from the lunch menu). The food was tasty and reasonably priced.
My rating is a 2 because I took my toddler to the toilets to change her and there were no babychange facilities. I asked the member of staff closest and she took me to the disabled toilets and said I could use them. I mentioned that changing her on the floor probably wasnt best. She offered me a booth to change her however declined a people were eating near by.
If you are going to welcome families then you need to update these facilities. I was very disappointed by this.
I have since edited my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. I have been informed by the owner that the changing facilities have now been installed. For food, the place was lovely. Thank you Chilli Banana, Didsbury

Fantastic lively atmosphere and amazing food! I have struggled to find a high quality Thai restaurant in the Manchester area until last night when we dined at the new chilli banana in didsbury! Wonderful attentive staff and overall a fabulous dining experience. I highly recommend the scallops (very spicy!) and larb gai (minced chicken salad- so fresh on the pallet!) as a starter, then the pork krad prakow noodles and sticky rice for a main. The portion sizes for me were perfect and I left feeling satisfied without that bloated 'stuffed' feeling which you usually experience when over-ordering! 4 of us dined and shared 8 starters and 2 mains with rice and noodles, crackers etc, we also had a lovely bottle of white wine and drinks before dinner, to our surprise the bill came to just over £100 which is extremely reasonable for the didsbury area! We are thrilled that we live just a 5 minute walk away and will definitely be returning again soon! Thank you to all the lovely waiters and chefs for a wonderful evening

Found a long piece of hair in the green Thai curry, got a half-baked 'sorry' from the waiting staff. The food is bland, I can make better-tasting dishes from paste pots at home. The place has mediocrity written all over it, will never visit again.

I visited last night with my partner the food was good. The staff were great and attentive. If you want a good Thai meal this is the place. It's not cheap but the quality is there to back it up. Highly recommend from us.

I visited last night with my partner and our 4-year-old daughter. We were well looked after from start to finish by our lovely waiter. He was very engaging with our daughter and kept talking to her when he was walking past our table.
The food was incredible, I had the 'drunken tofu' which was delicious and very well portioned, I couldn't eat it all. Good choice of kids meal, I think the kids meal was £6 for a main, a drink and a dessert.
My only moan would be that the dessert portions are a little on the small side compared to similar restaurants who charge the same. But the quality of the creme brulé and coconut ice-cream were great. We'll be back soon.

After a bad take away experience, we were invited into the restaurant as an apology. I have to say, my mind has been changed completely. The service was great and the food was delicious, with good portions. My boyfriend doesn't often rave about meals out but said it's the best meal he's had in a long time (drunken noodles). We'll definitely be going back!

Very disappointed. Have visited Wilmslow chilli banana and was very impressed so thought didsbury restaurant would be equally good. After being seated we picked our food and drinks and waited to be served. 15 minutes went by without anyone approaching us. Then a table next to us arrived within 5 minutes they have drinks order taken and Thai crackers delivered to the table. We still hadn't been acknowledged. It was only when we decided to leave and were on our way out that we were noticed by staff. At this point it was too late. Won't go again

Nice food, averagely priced, clean and noise free restaurant and staff great with my young daughter, making her feel grown up and special.
Took a whole food to arrive though as they were busy, even on a Sunday evening, and the seat nearest the kitchen wasn't the best but the food taste made up for it.

I was celebrating my 40th birthday with 20 good friends and as much as I was organised and staff knew what everyone was having when the food was ready the staff got to know people by name and which was nice , they housed my cake I bought in earlier during day and overall everyone had a great time.

Lovely decor, friendly staff. Our starters were yummy but an hour later my friend and I stopped chatting and realised we were getting tired and realised our main course had been forgotten! The table waitress and manager were very apologetic and they handled their mistake well by waiving the cost of our cocktails and starters, but the damage was done - won't be returning.

First visit last night with a friend who had been before. Amazing food, tried pad thai for the first time and loved it. Would definitely return 😊
Friendly and attentive staff, great early dining offer too.

Delicious food, polite and friendly service. The lunch menu gave excellent value for money, £9.95 for two courses!
