Fabulous clean and well presented restaurant located on the Tyne Quayside. We made reservations in advance, and we're seated on the upper floor. It's worth noting that as time progressed, the restaurant filled significantly. Helpful and friendly staff, table service.
We asked for water for the table and noted that until the bottled option had been opened and poured, tap water was not brought to the table. We chose to opt for wine by the bottle as it was a much cheaper option than by the glass.
The food was superb, very generous potion sizes, and all served hot. There was literally no room for dessert, as temping as the menu was.
The upstairs toilet facilities were in good condition and clean, and there was no queue for the ladies during our visit.
When presented with the bill, we did have to ask for the service charge to be removed. We made our own decisions about the value of service received.
We would definitely visit again, especially for the calamari, which was exceptional.
We had a work party here (14 I think) and were very well looked after by the staff, drinks were kept topped up and waits for food were fine.
I had just mains to try the place out without spending a big whack. When my lasagna came I was initially a bit worried that I might end a little hungry.
But I was stuffed, and happy with the flavours too. In both the lasagne sauce and the dressing for the rocket and parmesan side salad there was a lovely tang that I couldn't put my finger on - sweeter and less sharp than balsamic vinegar. Maybe it was a certain type of tomato in the pasta. The sauce of the lasagne tasted very fresh and was so lovely I wanted a bit more to eat with some bread.
Lasagne was £15 and small glass house pinot grigio was £7.75. The set meal was quite pricy I thought, but I was fairly happy with the price I paid. I think experiences in the group were a bit mixed for food vs value however.
Interiors are lovely and spacious, clean, and modern - simple dark lines, classy. I wouldn't say it screams fancy though. Maybe it's the echoing of cutlery. Or that toilets are upstairs which feels a little poorly thought out.
Overall I had a nice time here and felt looked after. I enjoyed my dish but sadly not everyone did.
Book in advance!
I had fantastic time in this restaurant! Food and drink was expensive but worth it.
The first floor is cosier on winter days, and some snowy animated light outside adds to the seasonal atmosphere.
I liked our waitress knew when we need her, was brief and efficient.
Champagne costed about £10 per glass, and delivered its promised long taste. Filet stake was small, but delightful, enough for me, but I'm not sure if you'd be satisfied if you are a big hungry guy! I had a non-alcoholic coctail with gin, it does taste right in my opinion. Two of my companions were happy with their choices too. See the photos. Yes, the bill was high, but I felt it was right for the occasion.
Mind you, some kids had a birthday party just opposite our table, so if you are on a date or just need a quiet spot, it might be worth mentioning when booking.
Wonderful place! Both sit on the outdoor terrace or take some time for a pleasant dinner inside. Biggest compliments to the kitchen! They really know their stuff! Any meat dish was worth gasping for how perfectly it was prepared. Extensive cocktail menu and all of them are prepared with quality and presented creatively. Service is high quality and pleasant. It's really "slow food" restaurant, so an honest tip: no matter how hungry you are, order enough appetizers - you might have to wait for the main course. But the wait is really worth it!
One of the best restaurant in the UK. Food was delicious, great atmosphere and lovely staff. Just portions were bit smaller and extra price for both pricey steak sauce was unfair. I will definitely go again.
Lovely food and cocktails. The burrata is absolutely delicious! Pizzas are good too, lovely sourdough base. The menu is extensive and there would definitely be something for everyone. There's a large selection of cocktails too; I would recommend the lychee martini. Will definitely return in the future.
Visited with the wife as a throwback to when we got engaged here (a lot of years ago!). Food was fantastic, drinks were superb, staff were amazing. The restaurant itself could do with a bit of a clean up/TLC but this didn't detract from our night.
Superb this evening for my wife's birthday. Alex went above + beyond without being asked and looked after my dog, my young kid and my wife on her special day! Couldn't have asked for anything more. I find it hard to find great service and food but here at Gusto on the Quayside, I found it. I will return. Cheers.
Lovely restaurant, food was beautiful although could have been a tad hotter but that's me being picky. Really enjoyed it and will happily go back. 12.5% service charge I thought was a bit cheeky
First time at a Gusto. The food was amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly. The pate and bruschetta were extremely tasty. I was expecting it to be busy for a Saturday evening..... but I wasn't expecting it to be absolutely packed! (A good thing to see obviously) so I'm glad I booked a table in advance. Drinks took a little while but food came in good time. Service was friendly but a shame I was served by six different members of staff, so made it a little impersonal. Overall a lovely meal. Definitely be back.
