We had a great stay here this weekend in the South Sea Shilling room. The room was clean and we absolutely loved the decor. We had everything we needed and thought the host messaging on our first night was a lovely touch. The shower gel and soap both smell unreal! It felt very safe (even without a check in desk) and it’s so central to everything and on a nice high street. We had some food and drinks over the two days in the cafe and it was great. The staff are so friendly and again, the decor is amazing. I highly recommend the Jet Black Jewel for both accommodation and breakfast/lunch. Thank you all for a great experience!

Delicious Sunday brunch! This place has a point of view. From the decor and service to the food and drinks menu. We had cheese on toast and salmon and scrambled eggs. Both delicious. The Bloody Mary sauce is flavourful with a good kick. Coffee was delicious. Service friendly, attentive and efficient. Dog friendly. Would definitely recommend!

We enjoyed a lovely brunch here last week while holidaying in Whitby. The place has fantastic artwork all over the walls and there is a little booklet on the tables about Whitby folklore and history which was a nice touch. We had the meat hash and the avocado with feta, both were very nice. We also enjoyed a yummy bloody mary. The place has a warm feel and is dog friendly. Would recommend.

Had a fantastic breakfast with a group of friends. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the space was spacious and comfortable, dog friendly and clean toilets. The food was fantastic, and the real star of the show was the Bloody Mary sauce, 10/10!! Definitely will be returning.

My family stopped by on a drive back to Scotland, looking for Breakfast. We chose the Hand of Glory Breakfast Hash. We were completely clueless on what to expect, but it was probably one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. Something new to us and we loved it, especially the bloody mary sauce 👌. Very polite, comforting and approachable staff. We will definitely be back.

My partner and I had a reasonably priced, delicious breakfast, served by friendly staff in beautiful and interesting decor. As old 80’s Goths (but would suit anybody tbh) we felt quite at home here to the point that we’re looking to book future stays in their hotel rooms 10/10.

Lovely boutique 'remote' hotel. Highly recommended to stay somewhere a bit different and with proper Whitby personality. Note that no rooms have completely step-free access and there is no lift. Check in is online, you will be sent an electronic access code in advance of your arrival, one for the street door and one for your room. There are no Reception staff on site but you will have contact details in case of problems. We received a text message on our first night checking that everything was okay. The rooms all have individual decor related to Whitby folklore. We stayed in St Hilda's Abbey on the top floor (lots of stairs, summer steep, narrow and twisty!), with a green, black and copper theme and an artistic mural of the Abbey and 'casting out the snakes' legend of St Hilda on one wall. The were little details to spot everywhere. This room has a great view across the harbour to Whitby abbey. It's an old building with single glazing; the street is quiet but the seagulls aren't! Bear that in mind if you're not used to them. There is no hotel car park but for £2 you can request a four-day parking permit for the surrounding streets. Breakfast isn't included but the café on the ground floor opens at 8.30. Highly recommend the Hand of Glory (another Whitby folklore theme) hash with Bloody Mary sauce - which is amazing.

I had a reuben sandwich that was so good that it made me emotional. There are also some lovely vegan options. The coffee was lovely; they use their own house blend. Staff are wonderful and if you have lunch anywhere in Whitby- make it here!

Amazing breakfast, freshly cooked. The flavours were outstanding, I can't recommend this place enough. Always visit when I come to Whitby, just wish it were more often 😊
