We first went to Thompson at the beginning of our holiday and it was a no brainer to have Fish and Chips. The surroundings were light, spacious and immaculately clean, with lovely friendly staff. The service was quick and the portions were huge. The Fish and Chips were delicious, nice crispy battered fish and soft fluffy chips. The mushy peas were lovely and sweet, the best mushy peas I've ever had. The food was so good we went back again later in our holiday. We had Steak and Ale Pie and Lasagne, to end the meal we shared Lemon Meringue Cheesecake, as we had some room this time. Yet again, can't fault the food, they are not just good at their Fish and Chips, all their food is delicious and of a high standard. The Steak and Ale Pie was full of flavour, with a crispy buttery pastry, lovely tender steak and a rich gravy. The Lemon Meringue Cheesecake was gorgeous, so zingy, lemony and sweet. Yet again, all big portions and good value for money. I would highly recommend visiting here, as you won't be disappointed.
Fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a drink, a good deal. Nice restaurant.
Been twice now. The fish is the nicest fish I’ve ever had. Nice chips also.
Highly recommend.
A wonderful place. Full of friendly staff. The menu is perfect, just enough variety to still keep it simple. I only had the small cod but still couldn't finish it all. Speedy service and piping hot food and drink. The whole meal was delicious with really tasty fish and a light crispy battery.
Staff were all brilliant, efficient and so friendly. They worked brilliantly as a team and we were quickly seated, orders taken and food delivered.
Big portions of great food. Don't expect posh food. It's wonderful fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter with coffee and tea. No airs and graces but perfect!
I would highly recommend calling in. I will definitely be going again.
After a day at Flamingo Land called here for a Fish and Chip tea and it was fantastic! Had a small haddock and chips with a side of curry, served with bread and butter and a pot of tea. Delicious white fish and plenty of perfectly cooked chips. This small meal seemed like a normal portion to me but you can go large. Lovely atmosphere and staff were very friendly. Will call again when I am in area again. 👏👏👏
What a great find! I was stuck in traffic and hungry so I pulled in. So glad I did. Service was super fast and very friendly. I had the Haddock with chips and mushy peas with a side of curry sauce. I normally don't like mushy peas, but these are the best I have had in England. I actually ate it all. The curry sauce was so good, I wanted to take some home. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
So calling in at Thompson's had an unexpected treat, fantastic light batter over a great fillet of cod with steak cut chips that were light and fluffy inside. Will be calling back to see if this was a fluke but I've found the top 'fish n chippy' I've had for some time..
Nearly went 4 star as chips could have been a touch better but lovely fish and peas. Nice efficiency from the team there too.
First class fish 'n chips. Delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating, yummy homemade tartar sauce. Good service too.
Disabled friendly.
Easy to find on Google maps, sign-posted and with plenty of parking.
5* from me and the wife who are regular visitors
Tried Thompsons today, very, very good fish, batter to die for. Chips were excellent but curry sauce ok. Service was excellent, how big is the fish? And the young lad serving gave us a perfect estimate, definitely worth another visit for the fish alone! Not cheap but I felt we got value for money, took Cheesecake home for a later snack. Really impressed with the service and the checks on customer satisfaction, recommended.
