I heard vinegar Jones was gluten free and rated in the top 10 in the U.K. so had to visit. 4 whole years since I've had chip shop food and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Fish, chips, mushy peas and even gf vinegar. Amazing! I messaged before I went just to double check contamination risk and they were straight back with a friendly message to ease my concerns. Great food and really lovely staff. Thanks Vinegar Jones, I'll definitely be back.
Very tasty gluten free fish and chips, and gluten free vinegar too, yay! Friendly service too so I'd definitely recommend a visit. :)
Found this place by chance and so glad we did. Friendly service, good choice, average price for the food, and one of the best fish and chips I've ever had, not greasy at all, the batter was light and crispy. Good size piece of fish. I had fish, chips, peas and gravy and the portion was a good size.
The shop is located two minutes away from a beautiful lake front. There is also seating right outside the shop.
Wife had fish and chips I had battered sausage and chips we had a tub of gravy, curry and a mushy peas. Everything was perfect neither of us could find fault with any of the food. The service was fast and efficient and the staff were friendly enough. It is expensive compared to our local takeaways but one expects that in a tourist area so I won't rate low for that. I would definitely use this chip shop again and would recommend without hesitation.
Amazing gluten free fish and chips. The batter was really light. The gluten free options are cooked fresh to order, and the wait for the food wasn't very long. Only downside is that the seating options were upstairs so we couldn't sit inside with my grandma. The food didn't seem very greasy either, and the fish was white.
It was our final day in the Lake District and before heading home, we took a walk down to Lake Windermere. We took a chance on Vinegar Jones, as it seemed like a nice chippy with their gluten free fish and chips as well as regular, which was a bonus. Well, we were certainly not disappointed! There was a slight wait for the fish, but it was worth it being cooked fresh. The batter was nice and crispy, the fish succulent and juicy, with fluffy chips and a carton of peas to go. And the ladies serving were really pleasant and very friendly too! Lovely to sit by the lake with these, would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning again in the future!
Family of four ordered Fish & Chips...never been here before, used the reviews to see what places were highly rated. I'm very pleased to say, the fish and chips here were amazing...fish was fresh and chips were equally freshly fried and served. For Muslims looking for a chippy, these guys have separate oil to just fry their Fish in. A big "Thumbs up" from me!
We had our lunch at Vinegar Jones while we visited Bowness on 17/06/23. We were quite hungry and wanted to have Fish & Chips. While walking towards the bus stop. We saw Vinegar Jones Fish & Chips. We walked in the shop and were greeted by Charlotte and Jack and other staff in a very polite and friendly manner. There was seating available upstairs. It is a very well kept, clean and tidy restaurant. We had ordered Fish & Chips. The food was served precise, hot ,clean proper cutlery (not plastic items). The food was delicious ,tasty and a very generous portion.
We highly recommend everyone to go and have a meal there.
Had fish, chips and peas as a takeaway, all of which were good ( though the peas could have done with being hotter ).
It was a warm, sunny evening with lots of families about at half-term, so it took a while ( ~25 minutes ) to queue, order and get the food, which wasn't a problem, but bear it in mind if you're going there in school holidays and make sure you get there before you're totally starving !
Service was good, despite them being dead busy, the staff were coping well and all of them had a smile on their face !
Ate from here multiple times whilst visiting! We had the battered sausage, curry sauce, mushy peas, fish and chips have never tasted chips like it!! It was that good we went back the next day! Takeout only but well worth the visit too! 👍🏻
Only fish and chip shop in lake district that fries the fish separately and not with other meats. Also no beer in the batter.
Brilliant service and no charge for the extra quality sauces. Eat in upstairs with tables and chairs.
Highly recommend
Thank you vinegar jones
We went for lunch on a Saturday and was impressed. Prices are fair. Service is friendly. Food is very good. It’s 15% extra to eat in upstairs. The upstairs dining area is modern, clean and basic. So overall very good.
*We had a portion of (non battered) sausage & chips each.
