Great little pub. No dogs running around or barking like pretty much every other pub in the area. The bar staff and servers are very friendly. The food is really good. Great portion sizes all around. The steak in the steak and ale pie melts in your mouth, very tasty, well presented and the pie was fully filled. Also had some spicy wings from the specials menu. nice and crispy, hot but not too hot and very tasty. But the chips. OMG. The Chips. What can I say. The best chips I have ever had. Anywhere. Light and fluffy. Perfectly cooked. Extremely tasty and crispy. I have honestly never had a nicer chip. I noticed fish finger butties on the menu, which I was tempted by because it was a childhood favourite. But I seriously think they should put chip butties on the menu as well. They would go down a storm

As the oldest pub in Bowness, and a real hidden gem, the New Hall Inn (as it was originally named) soon became known as The Hole in t’ Wall (Hole in the Wall) thanks to the gap in the brickwork that was knocked through so that the blacksmith could be served a beer while hard at work. Built in 1612, nothing much has changed, apart from electricity and central heating, and that’s what makes it! Dripping with heritage and a great tale to tell – from Thomas Longmire (the champion wrestler) to Charles Dickens – the pub has a charm and character you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The Hole provides a wide range of cask ales, good pub grub served all day and an atmosphere that’s second to none. There is a patio/beer garden area with heating and a function room for larger parties. Situated in the heart of Bowness, the pub is within easy reach of the stunning hills and lake. A must visit on your stay around Windermere.

Fantastic food, good cider on tap. We had the lasagna and fish pie, both were amazing. We also had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was an enormous portion and delicious - great value for money. A great way to end a long day of walking around the lakes. Will probably be back tomorrow!

Our second visit whilst in Bowness and we managed to sneak a table for food between busy periods! An open fire, good atmosphere, cosy and warm, and now we know delicious food! Worth a visit, even if it's just for a quick warm by the fire. Was so thrilled, forgot to take a 'before' photo but here's what's left of our (huge portioned) dinner. Recommend!

Absolutely loved going to this hole in the wall, for an authentic old world charm. The pub’s interiors tell the story and the originality of the food makes the experience a memorable one.

We just love it her. It's warm and cosy with a great atmosphere. The staff are attentive and very helpful. We haven't eaten here yet, but looking at what a man was eating yesterday it will be on our place to eat list on our next visit.

I love proper old style pubs. This place is fabulous. Visited a couple of times. Very helpful friendly staff. Robinsons beers are not my favourite, but they are well kept. We didn't eat on our visits.

A trip to Bowness would not be complete without a visit to this pub - great character and delicious food. Generous portions especially the steak pieces in the Steak and Ale pie. Pub had indoor and outdoor seating and can get full quickly.

Lovely pub, the staff were so lovely and accomodating. The food portions were generous and tasted great. The pub itself is well preserved and clean. We were a really big group and the food came out so quickly. Everyone had a great time
