Nice “traditional” pub with lovely atmosphere, staff and an amazing Sunday Roast. Can’t wait to be back to try the pork. Our vegetarian friend said the veggie roast was delicious 👌🏼

Lovely Sunday afternoon had in the upstairs dining room of which there are quite a few. Like a maze is this gorgeous olde worlde pub. Friends from Australia were quite taken with both the ambiance and the Sunday Roast.

Cosy pub with a fire (lit in the winter, obviously!).
Friendly staff and great choice of drinks.
We have visited a few times, but today (11th May 2024) was the first time we've eaten here.
THE FOOD WAS PHENOMENAL!! So much so that I asked to speak with the chef to compliment them. Laurie was very humble and contributed much to his Mum.
I had the plant based gnocchi and my partner had the special, beef maal, which was a platter good enough for a king! Everything was fresh, delicious, well presented, well seasoned and the vegetables were still crunchy, as they should be!!
They do have three TVs that show football, etc. Good for those who want to enjoy a drink and watch the footie. Heads up for those who, like us, who are not sports fans.
We highly, highly recommend The Lion and Lobster!

Fantastic Sunday roast. Quick and extremely polite service. Downstairs is your regular pub, upstairs is lovely decorated dining bit as well as an outdoor beer garden on a terrace. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

One of my favorite pubs in Brighton. The layout is amazing with a lot of seating upstairs and down. The staff are lovely and always very fast to serve you. Food is good and drink selection is nice and varied. The garden is 'multi-levelled' with heaters and a bar. If you want an iconic pub that has everything then this is the place. Happy to call this place my local. Continue the amazing work.

Was just for a few pints, missed the sunday roast. But it's selection of Sunday treats is one of the best in town. Great local beer! Please make reservations because it's usually full after 19.

We had a party of 12 to dine, booked at quite short notice. We were given the private room that was really excellent. We were well attended to for the whole evening with great food and drink. The whole pub is charming and the staff are top-notch

Been here once before, their Sunday lunch is a must try! Absolute perfection on a plate; I had the pork belly and it was everything I remember. Hot, fast to the table and tasty food, friendly staff and an array of places to eat or drink around the pub, including their stunning roof terrace which is sort of internal so you can’t see out but not a problem when it’s so pretty. Cheers!

This pub has so much going for it. Great atmosphere, extremely popular and the team are all friendly and outgoing. The food is excellent and well presented, except for one thing. The Chef obviously believes all customers want their roast beef extremely rare, which they don't. Unfortunately you're not even asked.
... missing a trick here guys.

What a great Pub, just off from the hustle and bustle of the main street, but really busy with some very friendly staff. Lots of corners for a quiet pint and some amazing outdoor spaces too. So nice to be in a Pub, that's clearly proud to be one!

After a gorgeous experience yesterday its only fair that I leave a wonderful review to the Lion and Lobster and all who make it what is . Firstly I must make the point that they have the most friendly and attentive staff I have come across in Brighton .
Its a kooky place with historic interiors which look like it hasn't been change in decades but I'm not complaining!! The vibe suits and I felt like I was back in an old theater . We were seated in the upstairs dining room on a big table in the sunshine it was perfect and it felt like we where some where really special .
I had roast Pork Belly and was intimidated by the size of the portion and that's not a bad thing ! Fabulous crackling the best I have ever had , tender meat , yummy veggies and potatoes , I was so greatful for the extra jug of gravy and not at one moment did we need for anything else with the attentive staff looking after us .
Wonderful sunday soulful music and generally a lovely way to spend the evening ... next time I shall get downstairs for the live Jazz band!

Been there a while back, got to visit again tonight.
Lovely, cosy (yet not small) with a decent selection of beers and great food, there's a roof terrace as well if you fancy it.
Bar staff were lovely and accommodating.
Hearty tip: on colder nights, try and secure a spot close to the fireplace.

We went to this pub on the recommendation of our Airbnb hosts. We popped down in the afternoon and the pub had a great vibe, lots of people and lively chat and we were advised to book for our evening meal.
We got there at 7pm and were directed upstairs where we were shown to a table in a room devoid of people. The menu came quickly and we were twice asked for our order. I had the crab cakes for starter and the Halloumi and Portobello Burger for main. The crab cakes were mushy (presumably made from tinned crab) and served on top of a strange goo (some kind of mayo concoction?). The Halloumi and mushroom were fine but the bun was massive, totally overwhelming it and (again) a strange orange gunk was on the bun. The chips were ok, you know, chips. The mains came within literally a minute of the starters plates being taken and we definitely felt rushed then.
The room remained empty the whole time so our poor food could not even be masked by a lively atmosphere. We'd read the menus, had 2 drinks, starters, mains and contemplated dessert (why?) and were out the door in 40 minutes. 40 minutes, sigh.
Downstairs was lively with a Sunday night jazz which sounded great. If you go and don't mind pub-chain standard food, eat downstairs. It's where it's at 😏

I never give a 5 But I’d give the L. &. L. a 4 & 3/4 !

What a friendly and quirky place! It was Sunday and it was very very busy. I saw the roasts passing by .. huge plates filled with what looked like yummy food. My husband and I just went for a drink; he just wanted to show me this lovely place. We will be back for sure and this time we are going to have some yummy food!

3 out of the 8 mains were unavailable. My halloumi ‘burger’ was 2 triangles of halloumi with lettuce and tomato and the thinnest smear of mayo. I would have expected this type of vegi meal 15 years ago! The hand-cut/chunky chips were most definitely not as described. They were thin, pale and soggy and had a strong resemblance to oven chips (which would be fine if cooked well!). The waitress made no comment on taking away an almost full plate of food. I probably should have complained but did not want to make a fuss as there were busy tables very close to us. On a positive note, the crab tian was quite nice.

Disappointing. Staff were unfriendly, food was just ok, ridiculous to be charged extra for Yorkshire puds (surely this should be standard in a Sunday lunch?), had run out of 2 staple dishes, ordered extra's that never arrived.. and a dreadful Bloody Mary. On the plus side, atmosphere and pub itself was pretty good, and it was child friendly.

Nice atmosphere in the building, such friendly staff. The food however was amazing! Wishing I could eat there right now. Definitely would go again. Big thumbs up to the staff members
Chris English
Nice place, great staff... Danni is the best. Will return on my next visit.

Wish I had read reviews before booking to celebrate friends birthdays
I have in the past been overwhelming satisfied by the food ...
staff were polite and friendly despite our ‘moans ‘

A stalwart pub - been super for years! Tho beer needs better looking after, but that's always been the case. Still - it's an institution - and a good un.

Nice family meal in the pub, the bar stafff were lovely especially a guy called Joe. Would go back again definitely x

Best Sunday roast ! very friendly staff, one of my favorite place in Brighton
Danny King-Bishop
Brilliant food, good location. Would go again.
Only thing that brings the mark down, is when I was eating there. The waiting staff kept on shoving menus, drinking, and plates into the side of my eyesight and made me disorientated when they came to the table.
