Fantastic little pub, I had the mixed grill my wife had the scampi, both cooked to perfection and the portion sizes were spot on, drinks wise I can highly recommend the SHAMBLES BITTER excellent flavour and a really good session beer....the staff are really great too, friendly and helpful.....would definitely use again
Only down side I had ......it's a dog friendly pub....not usually a problem for me, being a dog owner myself but that said I REALLY DON'T want dogs puffing and panting next to me while I'm eating my meal
One of the best establishments in York. Friendly, welcoming staff, lovely atmosphere where you can sit and watch the world go by. THE best pork pie and chutney ever!
What a great gem of a place this is. If you enter the premises via the Shambles it looks small but don't be fooled, it has a lot of seating areas at the back, upstairs and undercover outside where you can watch the hustle and bustle of the market. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a great variety of ales and drinks to choose from. I personally didn't eat there, but what food I did see looked good.
Very friendly and helpful, super clean with sanitiser everywhere which is nice these days! Amazing choice of beers and ciders on draught and in cans and fab live music on a Thursday evening. Lovely covered seating area outside too.
Love this place and we always visit when we are in York. Husband loves the pie and mushy peas and I love the ploughman's, all fantastic and service is always fabulous. Beer garden is great to people watch with a beer or two or to just chill and listen to the live music if they have some on. Well worth a visit. Dog friendly too.
Must visit in York City Centre!! A wide variety of ales, beers, ciders, and liquors. The staff was friendly and courteous. Prices are reasonable and are similar to other pubs. Didn't rate the food due to not purchasing
Very unique and classic designed tavern with a large, reasonably priced selection of beers and other drinks. Service was friendly and food was great tasting, with great value for money. A wide variety of seating is available inside and out. Was a shame that the kitchen closed early most nights, how ever it's understandable, due to how quite it was during this time of year. I recommend visiting a lunch to not be disappointed.
Live music most nights. Covered beer garden outside and friendly staff. Perfect joint if you like laid back pubs.
Very reasonable prices compared to some nearby spots! Friendly staff, good food.
It's nicely decorated for Halloween🎃 the staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the drinks. I tried a pumpkin spice beer which was actually very nice.
Lovely old facade, I thought it have the same charm continues inside too. In the ground floor have the same rustic style, I only wish to have more character at upstairs too. I had a cider it tased really good, bit pricey, perhaps couse the location. It was a bit let down or expected more.

Only stopped in a few times on our walks down the shambles. I don't drink much and when I do I'm definitely not a cider type of guy but the cider there is unreal and the service was brilliant pleasant people. We didn't get no food there though so I can't really review food I'd not eaten but looked well presented on the plate.
