Small charming tea room near the city centre to sit back and relax with delicious cream tea. One of the best scones I've had so far. If you're here for breakfast, I would highly recommend their scrambled eggs.
We visited this place both days while we were in York. There are many tea rooms around the area but for me this one was the best.
My Daughter took me and her mum away for the weekend to York, and Sunday breakfast for mother's day, she wanted to take us to The Ivy but as it was mother's day it was fully booked, so after a walk round we found Castle tea rooms so we decided as we were starving to go in, and how glad we did it was a lovely experience and nice traditional tea room, i went for the full breakfast while others had beans on toast and bacon and tomato sandwich and I can honestly say it was far better than a ivy breakfast at half the price! The bacon was thick and top quality and my daughter wanted some cheese for her beans that was no problem for the staff who we had a chat and laugh with, all in all we had a great experience at great value and came away glad the ivy was full.
Stopped in for a cream tea while I was thirsty on a walk and it was amazing.
I ordered the cream tea with clotted cream and it was so nice to have a proper brew.
It was really like stepping back in time. The people were friendly and the food was tasty and filling and excellent value for money. I enjoyed looking at their excellent collection of beautiful tea pots.
The cakes looked wonderful and I will definitely try one next time I am in York.
Wondering round York on a shopping visit (Sat 6 April 2024) ,I came across the Castle Tea Roms which is located on a side street ,it looked busy during the morning when i past by which is a good sign so I decided to return later on for some lunch & hopefully find a vacant table for 2 ..Access is by a few steps & inside is relatively small with only 9 tables available, all on the one level. Table service is provided by the staff on duty who I found to be very pleasant indeed .There's a good variety on the menu which includes breakfast items which are served all day, Lite bites ,Cream tea Special, Sandwiches, Toasties & Paninis with various fillings,,Jacket potatoes have an array of filling combinations aswel ,Salads,Cakes & tray bakes along with hot & cold drinks etc .Really surprisingly spoilt for choice to say its a small establishment & very reasonably priced .The service was good & my order of Tuna & cheese toastie ,Cinnamon Toast along with pot of tea for one & cappuccino coffee was very enjoyable. There's separate male / female toilets for customers and payments can be made by cash or card .After my 1st time experience during this vist ,I would return back again in the future & obviously recommend these cosy Tea Rooms .
The best tea room in York! The staff are so friendly and warm to everyone. Had the tomato and basil soup with tea for two and the famous scones with jam and clotted cream. It was so great the first day, I went back the day after. So cosy and highly recommended.
Me and my partner came for our breakfast after stumbling across the tea room. It was cosy, welcoming and the food was delicious. We loved the fact the breakfast menu was simple and had the choice you needed. We couldn’t grumble at the price or the service. The ladies were lovely and made us feel so welcome! We will definitely come back when we’re up this way! Thank you guys x
Didn't know whether to venture into this cafe as it looks small. The service is quick, the food choice and quality is excellent and has a great atmosphere to meet up with friends and catch up on gossip. I was in York for two days and used this lovely cafe two days in a row. Toilets inside to. Outstanding keep up the good work girls
Fantastic Tea Rooms
Friendly service with a smile. Ultra clean. Good little menu
A great spot
Stopped off for a cream tea. The scones were beautiful, warm, light and tasty with clotted or whipped cream as an option and jam. The pot of tea did us 2 each with another tiny one each after 😂 It was lovely and only cost around £11. Would definitely go again next time we're in York. It was a boiling hot day but the staff were all lovely and smiling, very welcoming and they had the fan on full blast for everyone. Has toilet facilities too.
Me and my son prefer such quaint and cosy tea room. We went around 3pm+ on a weekday and ordered 2 sets of tea + scone. We love the scones. We were not snubbed cos of our small order. In fact the girls are very polite and we feel very welcomed. Highly recommended.
