Highly recommend! What a lovely pub food is excellent and the staff are really friendly! They made my family (four small children) and our dog very welcome, even ruby my dog got given a dog treat by the lady serving us
Really enjoyed our visits to eat and have a couple of pints. Very dog friendly with super pub food and a choice of three proper beers, all kept well.
Beautiful little pub with the cheapest drinks we’d experienced so far. We didn’t eat here unfortunately however the environment was wonderful and the hostess just lovely.
The new landlords are absolutely wonderful! So welcoming and the whole atmosphere is how pubs used to be. As tourists, the local were very friendly to us and we ended up returning to this wonderful little gem. There was live music on one of the nights we attended and it was amazing. One of the only pubs that still has a pool table too! Highly recommend the John Peel for a great night!
The new hosts have only just opened this wonderfully traditional British pub after it’s been closed for 6 months.
In just two weeks they have transformed the place from what it was to welcoming venue with a friendly atmosphere. I’m sure I’ll be back with friends soon.
By Far the best Pub in Bowness! Myself and the Mrs absolutely loved this place, a 'home from home' pub, not your typical tourist white wash boring pub! This place has got character, and the new owners are so welcoming! Live music was great on Friday night, and we played many games of pool here too! Lots of larger choices for me and pooch friendly too! Look forward to coming back, and also trying the food in the future :)
Absolute hidden gem of bowness :)
Ic and Flic making their first visit here. I have only been a couple of times. Very traditional pub. Had a good pint of Theakstones Best. Very good but the only real ale on. Seems very quiet compared to those close by. No food but a proper games room to the rear with pool and darts. (Flic thought darts involved pinning his brother to the board.) Pool skills even worse.
I loved this pub , just 50 yards off the main Street , if you want a drink without the tourist crowd then look out this place , it even has beer mats...how great to be able to drink without getting dripped on.Give the OLD JOHN PEEL INN ago you'll like.
If you like wine bar, modern type pubs, then this ones not for you. But if you like propper pubs with character then you'll enjoy a few pints in here - the Hawks Head beer was spot on. Good pub grub too, sirloin and steak & ale pie cooked to perfection. Chips and veg fine but have had better. Worth a visit.
Nice Inn next door to our campsite. Called for 1 last drink before heading home. Fairly quiet as not many there but can imagine it can fill up at busier times. Lots of seating and quite large once inside as only looks a small pub from outside!
Did food in 2018 but not sure if this is still available now. Didn't see any menus etc, but as not there for food it wasn't an issue

Proper local real ales and wholesome simple food. Food was piping hot and well cooked, staff very friendly and helpful.
Traditional Ole styled pub with no frills attached.
Went to blues festival. Brilliant atmosphere and brilliant service. Would definitely go to this pub for an afternoon beer.
