Another great meal in this lovely pan Asian restaurant!
We visit Matou each time we are in Liverpool and love the food, the atmosphere and the beautiful views out over the Mersey. It doesn’t matter if you like your food spicy or plain, there’s lots to choose from in the extensive menu.

I popped in for some desserts and drinks. We chose the outside or rooftop area where you can see a good view of the waterfront building and the Beatles statue.
I ordered cheesecake, and the fried banana was well-tasted, but the Coke tasted weird- it tasted like tap water or more chlorine 😅

Wonderful views overlooking the eurovision village (one-off) and the Mersey. Received the wrong order, the service wasn’t great in addition to long and slow queues. Enjoyed the food. The dessert was a little disappointing - ordered the lemongrass creme brûlée and it didn’t taste any different. Good presentation.

I give this place a very generous 4 star review. It doesn’t deserve a 4 star but 3 star would be too harsh
Restaurant setting 10/10, food 5/10, had salt pepper ribs 6/10, green Thai curry 5/10 chicken was rubbery, crispy aromatic duck 4/10 one of the most tasteless crispy ducks I’ve had in my life and was cold when they served it.
Mixed feeling about this place when the venue is so posh, the food is mediocre and the menus are ripped like a greasy spoon cafe. 🤨

Overall a lovely restaurant in an amazing location, perfect for a date night or celebratory dinner! The view from the main dining area is great, looking out at the water; on the other side the drinks terrace has a lovely backdrop for photos and having a few drinks in the sun. The only reason for the 4* rating was due to the vegetarian options offered, these weren’t great but I do understand that pan Asian cuisine is not largely vegetarian so this is a minor issue. I would return again for another visit!

Staff very friendly and attentive. Views excellent. Food of good standard and tasty. A bit more expensive but food, views and staff make it easily worthwhile.

Great view of the Eurovision village event from the rooftop bar .. food was ok as well 😎 very busy Saturday due to it’s fantastic location, with views across the city from the terrace, and the river from the restaurant..

Overview:
I went there on my birthday. Overall experience was decent and the place was really sophisticated, not noisy at all. The view was amazing as well, right on the river bank. Got billed around £105 which is on the higher side, but the experience was really good. The staff were really friendly right from the start.
Drinks:
Nothing fancy. Just got a double Jameson and a Pina Colada for both of us. Expensive, but you’d expect that.
Starters:
We got the dim sum basket and a salt & pepper calamari. The former was presented really well although the food kind of got stuck to the bowl we were served in. The calamari was amazing and quantity was enough for both of us to share.
Mains:
We ordered the chefs special chow mein and a singapore vermicelli chow mein with char sui. The serving size was unexpectedly huge and we literally struggled to finish it after the sumptuous starters. The taste was decent and nothing extraordinary for the price.
Dessert:
Truffle Cake and Deep Fried ice cream. Tasted pretty good!

Generally very good- descriptions on menu could be more precise when offering a unique variation on a theme eg oyster sauce is generally dark not light and gelatinous - if this is different it should be explained -also better explanation of what the vegetables with lamb chops which more resembled shredded salad. Service very polite and courteous, view great , value good considering the location. Will come again

Beautiful outlook over the river whilst dining in and amazing architectural views from the outdoor seating area. Food and cocktails were fantastic. I would add though that we nearly missed finding this place, so more signage at the entrance would be better.

Very noisy place, so forget about having a sweet romantic time with your other half! (We tried at least...)
Food is well presented and tasty, we have been surprised by some of the dishes and the creativity from the cuisine team.
Staff is trying to do their best in this noisy environment and they will look after you.
Nicely located, just few steps away from the Beatles statue and just boarding the Mersey river .
Weather permitting, you might want to get to the terrace and enjoy the view on the Liverpool Docks.

Matou has some of the best views for dining in Liverpool! However, expect to pay a premium for the view and don't expect premium quality food to match the prices.

Visited here for a couple of drinks and to check out the views that this waterfront location obviously offers . The restaurant views are of the River Mersey but the outside patio had absolutely brilliant views looking back towards the Liver Building and surrounding areas. I expected to pay a premium price for this pleasure but was still a little shocked at a double Gin and can of Guinness for £16.

I have visited several times in the past and decided to go on Mother’s Day with my family as they had never tried it! We booked in advance and was pleased to see the cocktails were two for £10 in Sunday! However they took this offer off the website just before Mother’s Day and said it’s no longer available (coincidence I don’t think so)! We arrived shortly before 5pm as table was booked for 5pm- we were advised to wait in the bar and someone would find us! One bottle of wine, two pints and a soft drink later at 5.40 we were still sat waiting! We asked if we had been forgotten and were told they had been looking everywhere for us(I don’t see how when we were sat in bar, as told to and it’s only a small area- so it’s not hard to find us) especially when the baby’s pram was right next to us! Another 10 mins later we were sat down (an hour after our booking, with a very hungry 2 year old)!
I ordered the set meal for 3 people between the four of us- having had this in the past, I was aware of portion sizes and that this would easily satisfy us! The waiter tried to persuade us to order it for four, indicating they didn’t like the idea of us ordering for less people! The starter was fine and we enjoyed this! But the duck was extremely disappointing - it arrived already made on pancakes (3 pancakes) with a slither of duck n cucumber with sauce already over! Never I have been presented in any Chinese restaurant with duck already prepped on pancakes n only 1 pancake per person! I’ve also had this in matou before n received much more than this! I felt at this point that we were being ripped off due to ordering for less people! In addition to being disappointed about the time we waited and the cocktail menu changes! The main portions were adequate but the steak was poor quality n chewy! Also ordered sweet n sour sauce to pour over baby’s meal- we never got this and as nobody came to check on us didn’t get an opportunity to ask for it! We then moved the pram from one side of the table (as it was blocking the table were another group of people were sat)! We put it out the way in other side of ta me bear to till - we were told it couldn’t go there, but no alternative was offered!
I have been in here in the past and have previously had no complaints about the food or the service (although the large amount of customers snorting cocaine in the toilets was off putting), but this time around I was unhappy about the food, service and value for money on what should have been a celebration with family!
I will definitely not return!

The place has a very good ambience , very clean and perfect for the couple having a date. The staff are friendly also. The lunch menu meal are 3* but the 3 courses are okay because it's included drinks and rice or chips. lunch menu are very simple you can find in Chinese buffet restaurant . I thought they are serving Thai food with a little bit chilli and some currys as well. I love the truffle cake dessert and deep fried ice cream. Very affordable price so I will recommend them.

It was a bit overpriced for what it was but the food was nice and the waiting on staff were professional and courteous. At times the bar staff were under obvious pressure resulting in them being a bit short but then when the pressure eased they couldn't be more helpful and we even had our drinks carried outside for us.
But there is a lovely view from the roof terrace of bother the Three Graces and the river so overall a very pleasant experience.

Great food, fantastic staff! I found prices very reasonable.
I've been here a few times now and always enjoyed my visits, especially with the view of the Mersey and the Three Graces.

Great meal, fantastic staff would definitely recommend. Thanks in particular to Roshan and Ibeahim.

Food was amazing I mean to die for smeared by staff asking me to finish drinks at the bar before I’d asked for the bill and had only been there a hour but told when booked we had the table for 2 hours which I thought was a joke hence the 3 stars

Great food and attentive staff, a blend of Asian that is hard to execute but they do a good job of it. Good wine selection. Private room has great views but is very noisy, could do with some acoustic treatment to minimise the noise.

Dissapointed. Being a huge fan of Thai and other Asian food along with my partner, for a long time I wanted to make a visit to Matou. As a birthday treat to what we thought would be a special evening, we thought we would not be disappointed after reading the reviews, wasn't I wrong. When we arrived at Matou my partner thought we were walking into student accommodation, then at the door of the restaurant he relaxed and thought "its okay". We where both undecided between 2 main meals each so we asked the waiter what would he recommend. He could not recommend anything, he barely knew what the dishes were. My next question was if the fish i was ordering come with skin on, his reply was "no no". Our starters arrived I had the BBQ ribs my partner had salt and pepper chicken, both where "okay" just eatable nothing to brag about. After our starter had been removed from out table the waiter asked straight away are we ready for out mains, we were pleased we didn't have to wait a long time. Our mains arrived and immediately I was agitated by the fish that I was told had no skin on was covered from top to toe in skin! Initially I thought ok don't over react you want to experiment fish so I tasted a small part from the corner and the texture of the skin immediately made me bork. I now pealed back the skin and ate small bits with some rice, of cause it was not too bad now but very very flavourless due to the skin being covered in the flavours and not the fish. I was completely put off my food and did not want to eat anymore. My partners dish was under grills but his chicken was far from grilled! more like it was boiled, he found his dish eatable but very bland. The waiter came and asked if everything was ok, my partner let the waiter know we were not happy that he mislead us, we were offered an alternative but at this point i no longer wanted to eat from this restaurant. The bill came and not any discount or extras were offered for the mistake of the waiter. We asked to speak to a manager and he was so adamant there was nothing they could now do with the bill as it had been printed already. After a short conversation abouth we thought their staff need training and we are not happy about paying £20 for a fish dish that was eaten and miss informed about we felt we needed to talk to someone higher in charge, she sent the same manager back offering 50% off the fish dish, we just asked to speak to her personally. We were told she would be with us if a few moments, 5 minutes later the same manager came back with the fish dish removed off the bill. We found this kind but that is not the point. staff became rude after the complaint trying to say the dish was more or less eaten, i had not even ate 15% of this meal. We were miss informed and what we did eat was bland and a bad restaurant to choose when you want good Asian food.
